If you happened to be around GAME Oxford Street in London today, you may have noticed the increased presence of a certain friendly — and recently gold-hungry — plumber. Don't worry if you missed out, though, as the madness is due to continue tomorrow. Nintendo UK has announced that an exclusive New Super Mario Bros. 2 gaming event will be taking place on Saturday 18th August from 9am - 6pm in the shop.
To celebrate the launch of New Super Mario Bros. 2 on the 3DS in Europe, Oxford Street GAME has let our dear plumber chum run riot throughout the store, turning it into 'Gold World', and is giving fans a chance to play the game, get their faces painted and to grab some exclusive goodies.
Those who try out New Super Mario Bros. 2 will also be able to enter a free prize draw to win a family trip, which includes a night in a London hotel for a family of four, plus a dinner in a top London restaurant and a travel allowance of £100. If that sounds right up your street, make sure you fill out one of the free entry forms when you're in-store at Oxford Street GAME and hand it in before you leave.
Those who are interested in the Coin Rush competition might also wish to take note of this section of the press release:
There will also be a special bonus in store for those keen to get involved with the Coin Rush competition where, just like in New Super Mario Bros. 2, it’s up to fans to collect as many coins as they can. In return for coin codes, there are some amazing prizes up for grabs. Event-goers will find a rare Coin Rush code located in the store which will allow them to collect extra coins in the Coin Rush competition.
To get involved with Coin Rush, all players need to do is visit the Nintendo 3DS UK Facebook page and commence the hunt. It'll be raining coins and prizes, so players are advised to keep their eyes glued to the Nintendo UK Facebook and Twitter pages so they don't miss Golden Tweets and the locations of the all-important coin codes. The ultimate winner of Coin Rush will receive a Nintendo 3DS XL console and every Nintendo 3DS first-party title released for a year [eShop games not included]. In addition there are more Nintendo 3DS XL consoles, Limited Edition Nintendo GameCube Mario Controllers and many more exclusive goodies to claim, so get collecting now!

The family friendly New Super Mario Bros. 2 is the first traditional side-scrolling Mario game to be made especially for the Nintendo 3DS system. It offers all the classic elements that Mario fans love but also introduces new concepts that add a fresh feel to this much-loved gameplay. This time around, the numerous courses of the Mushroom Kingdom are littered with more coins than ever to collect – with the ultimate challenge of gathering one million. The game’s Coin Rush mode delivers a careful balance between risk and reward, as players are tasked to complete three randomly selected courses while collecting as many coins as possible without ever failing once. Coin Rush scores can be shared as challenges with other players met via StreetPass, while the option to play the entire adventure in Co-op Play together with a friend is another first for a handheld Mario platformer.
New Super Mario Bros. 2 will be available in European stores and, for the first time, simultaneously as a digital download from Nintendo eShop on 17th August.

Once again Mario dominates!
US games stores are too interested in the 14th COD coming out in November to be too interested in Mario, at least around here in WV. One Gamestop near here completely moved Wii games off the wall, on onto a small jam packed shelf, and the 3DS games in the dark corner.
Aw, the wikipedia page for this game has Nintendolife's review score on it and the first listed reference is :
^ Newton, James (21 April 2012). "Nintendo Reveals New Super Mario Bros. 2 for 3DS". NintendoLife.
Might as well spread me on toast and call me jelly, damn.
@Joshers744 That's a real shame!
@Joshers744 You think that's bad?
Well, my gamestop is better with the Nintendo games (Wii U ads out in front, 3DS behind the ads, and wii games all over the store), but at my school district people won't shut up about buying COD BO II. These are coming from 6-15 year olds mostly. But what REALLY irks me is that I get teased off and off because I don't like the COD series. I just hated it ever since the second game. They even bully me if I try a "hardcore" game, like Final Fantasy or Street fighter, because there is no blood.
@TheDreamingHawk What makes them think they are a better person somehow by playing games with crazy amounts of violence? Me personally don't like the bad language anyway.
Not saying COD is a completely terrible series, but you don't have to play it like everyone else to be cool.
Me personally, have alwayws went the other route and stuck with Nintendo's originallity and I'm 23!
Wow that got way off topic for this artilce.. haha. My bad.
I was there today, believe it or not. They have an archway near the front of the store and 3DS/3DS XL's to play on. Entered that competition too. Insta-hooked on the game, but I gave myself a two-level restriction until I get my own copy.
I just love it when people start talking bs saying "Marios lame, its not interesting anymore" and stuff like that only to see Mario's newest games dominate and prove them wrong!
@Joshers744
Wow, all of that really sucks. There are a ton of Gamestops where I live in central Florida, they're like gas stations. The one I go to is pretty Nintendo friendly, more attention to obviously the games like COD but the people who work there know a little about Nintendo. I picked up my copy of The Last Story today and I saw a good amount of people pre ordered it.
Anyway, I guess this is good for the UK gamers interested in NSMB2. I am not all that interested and not planning to pick it up anytime soon.
Shame I don't live in London.
Kinda surprised that GAME got this game at all, lol. >:3
Man this makes me sad. Seems like US doesn't care all that much. At least around here in Pasadena. I called GameStop the other day about preordering a 3DS XL and she said I could but there wasn't a release date yet... lol.
And when I asked about NSMB2 on sunday she said games only come out on tuesdays haha. Good ol' clueless GameStop employees.
'['The ultimate winner of Coin Rush will receive a Nintendo 3DS XL console and every Nintendo 3DS first-party title released for a year''
wow, that is some prize there!
I stopped by today and got a nifty NSMB2 coin Was a sweet little set-up
@Joshers744 I know how you feel, all my local Canadian shops are like that too... >
@TheDreamingHawk All my friends can't stop talking about 'Modern shooters', but as soon as I pop my 3DS out of my pocket, they want to play with it :S
