We're now one entire month into 2021 and it's becoming clearer with each passing day that this year may turn out to be '2020: Part Deux'. The good gamers of the world are in need of diversion more than ever, and fortunately there are some rather fabulous-looking Switch games coming over the next month or two to lift your spirits (and lighten your wallets).
Below we've rounded up the biggest games and accessories making their way to retail in February and March 2021. Super Mario 3D World is Nintendo's first big release of the year and we cannot wait to dive furry head-first into the new Bowser's Fury content. At the tail end of the two-month period we've got Monster Hunter Rise bringing up the rear. Plenty of quality hours to be had from just those two, then, but there are more sizeable releases to choose from if cats and monsters aren't your bag.
So, grab yourself a warm cup of something and settle down with a comfy blanket. Let's take a look at the big retail releases coming to Switch over the next couple of months and beyond...

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury - 12th February 2021
One of the Wii U ports we've all been waiting for, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury will offer a tweaked experience that expands on the original 2013 platformer with new content. There's a dual pack of Cat Mario and Cat Peach amiibo incoming on the same day, so expect an overflow of cuteness and a chance to appreciate this excellent title all over again when it finally arrives on Switch.
Persona 5 Strikers - 23rd February 2021
Japanese Switch owners got their hands on this hack-and-slash Dynasty Warriors crossover in the form of Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers back in February 2020, and it's now finally scheduled for a western release with a minor name change.
While it might not be the Persona 5 game fans are waiting for, we've seen some excellent Warriors crossovers in the form of Fire Emblem Warriors and most recently Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. This has the potential to be an equally tasty mash up, so while we'll keep hoping for Atlus to bring P5 proper to Nintendo's console, we're intrigued to see what Omega Force has in store.
Bravely Default II - 26th February 2021
Bravely Default II slipped from its original release date into the beginning of 2021, but Square Enix's sequel is one to watch for fans of the 3DS originals, or anyone with a taste for traditional-style JRPG gameplay and turn-based combat.
If you're intrigued by what you see, there's a demo available on the Switch eShop that should give you an idea if Bravely Default is your cup of tea or not. Check it out.
Story Of Seasons: Pioneers Of Olive Town - 23rd March 2021
Marvelous' next instalment in the Story of Seasons life/farm sim series will put you to work cultivating a farm just next to the titular port of Olive Town. The game promises more customisation options and more freedom than ever before to aid you in living your best life, plus plenty more marriage candidates of course, and you'll have your work cut out for you clearing space in the forest for your new abode and cultivating all the bountiful natural wonders nearby.
Balan Wonderworld - 26th March 2021
A 3D action platforming game from Yuji Naka and Naoto Ohshima, perhaps best known as the creators of one Sonic the Hedgehog, Balan Wonderworld brings back warm memories of 3D SEGA games like Nights Into Dreams on the Saturn and Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg on GameCube. It's a multiplatform release and we're looking forward to exploring its colourful environments on Switch.
Monster Hunter Rise - 26th March 2021
Described as "a brand new take on the Monster Hunter experience", up to four players can team up and save Kamura village from the impending 'Rampage', harnessing the new Wirebug hunting tool and enlisting the help of Palicoes, and Palamutes, along the way. The 'Rise' in the title is apparently a reference to this entry's verticality, with the ability to traverse and climb rock faces and other terrain which will make the hunt all the more interesting.
A free limited-time demo was available throughout January — check out our impressions in this Monster Hunter Rise demo video from the lovely Alex.
More Awesome Nintendo Switch Games
Aside from the highlighted games above, there are lots more Switch retail games which might take your fancy in February and beyond.

Really looking foward to Bravely Default 2 and Person 5 Strikers (although I'll most likely play that on PS5)
well my birthdays this month so this is good to know!
My Universe : Pet Clinic Cats & Dogs !! 😆
Super Mario 3D world please, with lashings of Bowser's fury on the side.
I hope that they eventually release Bowser's Fury standalone.
I guess Little Nightmares 2 and backlog for me.
Patiently waiting for my physical copies of Atelier Ryza 2 and Root Double after they were both delayed. I have Gal*Gun Returns preordered too and I'll definitely get Monster Hunter Rise but I'm considering getting it digitally instead.
Kinda tempted by Azur Lane: Crosswave even though I know it's not great. Will definitely grab Trails of the Cold Steel IV at some point too but probably not at launch as I'm waiting for the ports of the first two games before playing through them all.
Hmmm what do you know. Still no ninja gaiden trilogy. But SM3DW looks so fun. Also terry amiibo time
Nice!
My must haves are:
Little Nightmares 2
Kingdoms of Amalur
Hellpoint
Port Royale 4
Monster Hunter Rise
And probably Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury.
Id actually forgotten Bravely Default 2 was out soon.Really enjoyed the updated demo.
But Persona 5 Strikers is the one I'm most looking forward to alongside Little Nightmares 2 but they will be PS5 purchases.
Bravely Default 2, Monster Hunter and Saviors of Sapphire Wings for me.
And then finally at the same day Mario dies Binding of Isaac Repentance which is quite possibly my anticipated release for this year together with SMT5.
This is when things start to get interesting, for February and March:
I'm looking forward to 3D World + Bowser's Fury and Persona 5 Strikers this month!
Picked up Rayman Legends and Saga Collection this month, so I am good. Also went back and started playing Mario + Rabbits again (never finished it). Kingdoms of Amalur looks interesting as I missed it on 360 and to be honest Monster Hunter Rise is calling but I am trying to finish a fairly large backlog.
mario 3d world and bowser's fury are the big one in feb. for me. Monster Hunter Rise. the first true sequal to monster hunter 4. spin off games like MHW are ok. but I am glad Rise takes the monster hunter games back to its roots. MHW took out half the magic, half the weapons, and half the monsters. sorry I do not want a casual monster hunter game like world. thank goodness. Rise goes back to being a main line monster hunter game again. back where it belongs.
Balan Wonderworld as a full price title is laughable. The demo is beyond shoddy and has probably turned away quite a few potential buyers because of it.
Anyway, Mario and MHR for me over the next two months. Hopefully a Switch pro in a few months as well
I don't know if that date is correct for Clive N' Wrench. Also that title looks amazing for people who want a 3D platformer with creative levels and a light hearted theme.
@Grumblevolcano And New Pokémon Snap! in April. I mean yeah it's April 30th, and it's an on rails photo sim, but a lot of people are looking forward to it, have been for the past 20 years. So that's Feb, March and April sorted.
Though today is Feb 1st so everybody who had "full Nintendo Direct in January" in the ND pool have already lost. 😥 Looking like May or June, as we've previously discussed.
I usually poo-poo these upcoming game articles, especially those that same "Top 10' or some such, but this is a pretty good line-up. Really good if you don't already own a Wii U, SM3DW is really good. Must have for families, we played the entire game 4 player. Much merriment.
And you can add New Pokémon Snap! in April. Not a bad first half, even if we'll only get Bravely Default 2, the games are still there covering several genres.
Mario 3D world, Bravely Default and Little Nightmares for me from this list.
I will not buy MH:Rise, since I’ve become afraid of games that eat my time alive. I have a job to keep.
I've got the steelbook Mario 3D World pre-ordered, and the cat amiibo double pack. The only other Switch game on the horizon for me is Age of Calamity, as I haven't got around to picking it up yet. Otherwise, waiting for announcements.
I didn't dig the Monster Hunter Rise demo. I'd like to see how much extra content Bowser's Fury is before making a decision. Persona 5 Strikers seemed like a day one purchase for me but I don't know now.
So a port and some games I don't care about, oh and monster hunter, I might get that. At any rate it sounds like I'm gonna play LOTS of terraria over the next few months. I hope BOTW 2 comes out this year at least.
There's a lot of stuff listed here. Tho, out of everything, I only plan on getting...
100% - For sure will buy on the day it releases (already pre-ordered)
Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury.
50% - Might consider buying, at some point
Little Nightmares 2
25% (at best) - Maybe if they go on sale one day
Asterix & Obelix
XIII
Other than these, there's not a lot I want to get from this list, even tho this list is admittedly pretty big. But, I'm positive that there will be lots of more games that I'd want to get, later this year.
just Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury for me in February.
maybe get Bravely Default 2 when it's on sale.
Been playing the Monster Hunter Rise demo but it's not my cup of tea. Really excited to dive back in with Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury. I might give the Bravely Default 2 demo a chance. I enjoyed the 3DS original. But I think the highlight for me will be the Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town. I already have the premium version pre-ordered (looking forward to that bull plush) and I am super excited they've added sprinklers to the game which is something I really missed in Friends of Mineral Town having played Stardew Valley first.
But not actually looking towards Bland wonderworld on switch
Cris Tales just got delayed again to July
Good couple of months to look forward to. Ghosts N Goblins Resurrection also comes out in Feb.
I'll definitely be playing through Kingdoms of Amalur Re-Reckoning, and I'll probably get Bravely Default II as well.
Amazing first months. My picks:
-Little Nightmares 2
-Mario 3D World
-Persona 5 Strikers
-Bravely Default 2
-Ghost & Goblins Resurrection
-Kingdom of Amalur
-Monster Hunter Rise
Taito felt we weren't impressed with their offering of 3 old Darius games for $50. They've looked into user feedback and have responded by offering 2 old Darius games for $65.
update this with adding Apex Legends to the list plz.
