Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl launched for Nintendo Switch in November 2021, and for keen fans who manage to complete the Pokédex, there’s a few special treats you can pick up once you’ve completed the game.

These include a charm to help you critical catch Pokémon, and — in a homage to the original Diamond and Pearl games — a soundtrack that makes your game audio sound like it’s coming from a Nintendo DS.

How to get the DS Sounds and Catching Charm in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

Complete the Sinnoh Dex

Firstly, you’ll need to complete the Sinnoh Pokédex. Thankfully, this can be done with one copy of the game, and in one playthrough. All you need to do is to see one of every Pokémon, not catch them, and this can all be achieved during the course of the normal game.

If you’re struggling to see the box legendary of the other copy, Dialga or Palkia, speak to Cynthia’s grandmother and she’ll show you it.

After that, head back to Professor Rowan and he’ll upgrade your Pokédex for you, allowing you to catch almost 500 Pokémon in total, including plenty of new legendaries.

Valor Lakefront

Head to the Valor Lakefront and go to the building on the furthest left. There will be three NPCs in there, including Game Director Junichi Masuda. Speak to each of them to receive a special gift marking your accomplishment of completing the PokéDex.

From Masuda you’ll receive the catching charm. This increases the odds of you performing a critical catch when throwing a Pokéball.

From the sound designer, you’ll receive an item that allows you to change the sounds and music in the game so that they resemble the audio from the original Nintendo DS games.

And from the final NPC, you’ll receive a certificate saying that you’ve completed the PokéDex, straight from Game Freak themselves. Congratulations!
