The Dutch WiiWare List of 28 January:
1) (1) Untitled Pokémon Rumble
2) (4) Untitled Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney
3) (3) Untitled My Aquarium
4) (2) Untitled Mahjong
5) (-) Untitled Max & the Magic Marker NEW
6) (5) Untitled UNO
7) (8) Untitled World of Goo
8) (6) Untitled TV Show King 2
9) (-) Untitled Fast Draw Showdown NEW
10) (7) Untitled My Zoo
11) (15) Untitled Rabbids Lab
12) (14) Untitled My Pokémon Ranch
13) (11) Untitled Stop Stress: A Day of Fury
14) (10) Untitled Stunt Cars
15) (12) Untitled NyxQuest: Kindred Spirits

Two new releases this week, both which came out last week and both are bought by me (and many others). Max & the Magic Marker enters at number 5 while Fast Draw Showdown enters a number 9.

With two new games, two need to go:

  • Family Slot Car Racing (9 last week)
  • Tales of Monkey Island Chapter 1 (13 last week)

Phoenix Wright climbs two spots to number 2 but that's not the biggest climber. Rabbids Lab climbs four spots from 15 to 11, is this his return to the top?

Biggest droppers are Stunt Cars with four spots from 10 to 14, My Zoo with three spots from 7 to 10 and unfortunately NyxQuest: Kindred Spirits with three spots from 12 to 15.

The top five games retained their position on the charts except for World of Goo which was surprisingly replaced by Muscle March. Also to note is that by next week, the demos will be gone.

With one new appearance we say goodbye to:

TV Show King 2 (15 last week)

Biggest climbers are Muscle March from off the charts to 5 and Reel Fishing Challenge with two spots from 11 to 9.

Biggest droppers are Castlevania The Adventure ReBirth with five spots from 6 to 11 and Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney with four spots from 8 to 12.

the demos are off the charts in europe. how about in america?

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

Sneaker13

I though they have the same date for the demo's. So tomorrow we have a Top 20 again. Didn't Japan get new demo's? I remember reading somewhere the got a Phoenix Wright demo.

I guess I can post the Top 20 US sales data from Wednesday (will do that a little later)

But I can say now with 100% positiveness that Demos did improve the sales of the titles with them. World of Goo saw the shortest boost, as it was already selling well all the while. Pokemon Rumble also had the benefit of advertising and being Pokemon. Bit.Trip BEAT did very well, as did FF:CC:MLAADL. In fact, both of those games saw improvements that were similar, though BTB's time was shorter, to which I attribute to the demo being shorter and more "impulse-buyer" friendly over DL being more of a strategical purchase. NyxQuest was the questionable one, but when I checked WiiWare's Top 20 this week, it was number 20, which tells me that it benefited a little from the demo and a little from NintendoWeek's mention.

Overall, I see it as a slight success. The big problem I see is that most of December's releases did poorly, and perhaps the demos were a cause for that. Nintendo could use those failures as a cost that is worse than the benefit seen from the demos....

Sneaker13

In Holland, the only game that never made it back in the Top 15/17/20 was Bit.Trip BEAT. Real strange cause the rest got back in the top list. Especially World of Goo and NyxQuest. Pokémon Rumble don't need a demo to get sales. The name is enough.

Only one new game this week. It's Frogger Returns which came out last week. It pushes Rubik's Puzzle Galaxy: RUSH (20 last week) out of the list.

We have a new number 1. "Aha! I Found It!" Hidden Object Game. Escape Game was a good succes but it's very surprising that Pokémon Rumble loses his top spot. Excitebike World Challenge also enters the top 3.

Biggest climber is Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney with 4 spots from 19 to 15.

Yep, and for it's second week in a row. It's a bit of a surprise, especially when Pokémon Rumble held the top spot for ages. The Escape Game did well, but not as well as the hidden object game.

The Dutch WiiWare List of 4-3:
1) (1) Untitled "Aha! I Found It!" Hidden Object Game
2) (2) Untitled Pokémon Rumble
3) (-) Untitled Castlevania: The Adventure ReBirth NEW
4) (5) Untitled Tales of Monkey Island Chapter 5
5) (3) Untitled My Aquarium
6) (10) Untitled UNO
7) (4) Untitled Frogger Returns
8) (7) Untitled Mahjong

16) (16) Untitled Tetris Party
17) (14) Untitled Rabbids Lab
18) (-) Untitled Tales of Monkey Island Chapter 1
19) (17) Untitled World of Goo
20) (-) Untitled Dragon Master: Spell Caster

Four new games, Castlevania enters at the top 3 (and I bought it too) while it came out last week. Same goes for Reel Fishing Challenge at number 10. Tales of Monkey Island Chapter 1 makes it's return to the list and a curious one. Dragon Master: Spell Caster. It got a 2 out of 10 from NL and came out 27 Nov. of 2009. No idea why this one enters the list all of the sudden.

Four games fall of the list:

  • Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (13 last week)
  • My Pokémon Ranch (15 last week)
  • TV Show King (18 last week)
  • Texas Hold'em Tournament (20 last week)

Two climbers with four spots. UNO is climbing again from 10 to 6 and Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Justice For All is climbing from 19 to 15.

It's a shame that Excitebike: World Challenge is the biggest dropper with six spots from 6 to 12.

17) (16) Untitled Tetris Party
18) (15) Untitled Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Justice For All
19) (13) Untitled Fast Draw Showdown
20) (-) Untitled Bomberman Blast

Two new games this week. Bomberman Blast returns to the list at number 20. But the biggest impact is made by Mega Man 10. It enters the list at number 1. The whole top 3 is different too. Castlevania climbs to number 2 while Aha dropped to number 3, giving the top spot to Mega Man.

Biggest climbers are World of Goo with six spots from 19 to 13 and Reel Fish Challenge with five spots from 10 to 5.

Biggest droppers are Tales of Monkey Island Chapter 5 with six spots from 4 to 10, Fast Draw Showdown with six spots from 13 to 19 and Frogger Returns with five spots from 7 to 12.

*This game dropped off the Top 20 and has come back. The number reflects its second appearance on the Top 20

Struck Out (I give a 3-Week period for a game to appear on the Top 20):
Mouse House from Plaid World Studios and Big John Games: Despite its cheap price point and promise for 100 levels available immediately, the game still fits into the already crowded Puzzle genre. Furthermore, it is an IPhone port with little extra incentive for Wii players. That's my analysis.

Drop-Outs (Games that appeared in the Top 20 and have since been removed):
Blaster Master: Overdrive from Sunsoft (with pub help from GaijinWorks): This game was certainly a surprise to fans, and received some high praise among certain individuals. However, the game's improvements added in some problems: stubborn gamers refused to purchase the game without CC support or 480p Progressive support. The game felt uneven at times, and mixed word-of-mouth combined with new hardcore releases (Mega Man 10's launch week saw it drop over 10 spots!) resulted in the game's downfall. It probably sold well for its 4 week tenure, though.

This week's final analysis: lots of movement this week, and no I cannot explain how Tetris Party has surged back to the top while World of Goo fumbled (perhaps the demo caused more harm to it than good?). Neither of the week's new releases appeared on the Top 20, but maybe we'll see a shift next week.

Last year we got Gradius Rebirth as our only title. As the "One Year Later" guy, I'd do something about it, but I'm prepping for some big stuff in the future, instead.
