It seems to have come from nowhere this one.The first I heard of it anyway was in the weekly download update on Monday. The PC and PS4 versions both reviewed well and it has a Metacritic score of 80.I just watched the trailer for it on the Eshop and the graphics are superb. It's rare for the Eshop to get a game like this.Has anyone played it before ?

I've played it to death on the PC, and I just got it for $4 on the PS4, and I look forward to playing it to death there as well. It's a Hexen clone (does anybody even remember that game? No? Well you SHOULD! It's pretty cool for a DOOM-era FPS, with fantasy/RPG trappings adding some much needed atmosphere) with randomly-generated levels. There's a level-up system with stats, but your level resets every time yoyu play. You can find or earn cards that'll act as a perk "deck" that you can pull from every time you level up through combat (and I think the ones you find you get to use right then, but they're still added to the pool the next playthrough).

Otherwise it's your standard room-clearing, bullet-dodging, crazy-boss-shooting-at-the-end-of-a-level FPS. And personally, I wouldn't have it any other way.

@CanisWolfred Cheers, it sounds great to me.I'll wait for the NL review to make sure it's a solid port but if it is I'll buy it at full price to show some support,I don't mind that it's $4 on PS4 as it's rare for the Eshop to receive a game like this.

I don't think I ever actually played Hexen but I remember it from back in the day.

@OorWullie One thing I forgot to mention is that there are multiple characters you can unlock with different weapons(?) and stat-progressions. Well, actually, I can't confirm if they have different weapons, I don't think I ever unlocked more than one character. There's well over a dozen, but they usually require getting farther than level 4, which...I've never done. It's a pretty tough FPS, so be prepared to die a lot...

It's all about the performance.

Is the Wii U version running smooth, with graphics like in the trailer?
Is it a polished port? Does it have game enhancing, logical Wii U features like motion controls, pointer controls, off tv play, map/inventory/stats on the GamePad?

A similar PC game and Wii U port was released a few months ago. Paranautical Activity was slower, with longer loading times, lower framerate, and only analog controls, and therefore harder than the pc original.

Footage of the Wii U port in action. No motion controls, performance seems smooth, likely missing a bit of sheen. Gyro or Wiimote support would put this over the top (if done well), but I'll still jump on it when it comes to NA.

Of course I love Hexen, Heretic, etc. And most of the Doom/Quake-style FPS from those days.

ACK

As a quick tip, since that guy in the video couldn't figure it out: An obviously-cracked wall can be destroyed, but it requires multiple hits. Don't just hit it once and move on. Usually it'll make a different sound and some dust'll fly up after a few hits, and then it'll crumble and reveal a secret passage with some really good stuff.

Just ticks me off that he got a random room that flat-out told him where the secret room is (I know I've never gotten a room with three fountains in it!) and he passed it up because he couldn't stop for two seconds to figure out what you're supposed to do. I mean, the crack is shaped like a square, the stairs go right up to it, and the question mark is on the other side...ugh...

15 euros, isn't it too much for this game?

It depends on what you're in for, I guess. There's a lot of randomly generated stuff (weapons, levels, enemy placements, even boss encounters, as well as secrets and those skill cards I mentioned above) and combine that with a generally high level of difficulty (well, easy mode's not that bad, but I know I couldn't get past level two on Normal no matter how much I tried. I mean, I'm not exactly great at FPS games, but I can usually play DOOM and other games like it on their third difficulty levels without much trouble), and you won't exactly be rushing to the end in an afternoon, if that's what you mean.

But it's not like it's going anywhere. Since 3rd Parties can have sales whenever they want, you can always wait until it seems more in your price range if you're still on the fence. I mean, I wasn't miffed when I bought the PC version for $15, but that was when it was fairly new, and it wasn't ported to other platforms yet.
