So, according to this weeks Nintendo Download, the standalone New Super Luigi U download is on sale for £8.99. One problem though, it's nowhere to be seen, unless I'm missing something really obvious.
I checked the New Super Mario Bros U page, to see the add-on content tab, but that's been replaced with the £20 Nintendo Selects bundle, so nothing. Searched the eShop for "Luigi", nothing. Checked the Nintendo UK store, nothing. I even popped in my Mario U disc for the first time in like three years, to use the link on the menu, that just brings up a "nothing's here" page.
So, am I just being really dense, or has Nintendo done goofed?
did you try just doing a general search for "Luigi?" Might take longer to sort the wheat from the chaffe, but it may be another way of finding the download.
I'm experiencing the same issue too. Just after the price drop, the purchase button within Super Mario took me to an eShop page which did offer me the DLC for £8.99. When I came back later to make purchase the eShop displayed a "There is no information available for this software title" message.
Is anyone able to buy the Super Luigi DLC for £8.99?
Per another thread, the issue seems to be that the Super Luigi DLC was attached to the standalone Super Mario. Now that the standalone version has been removed (to be replaced by the Mario + Luigi combo) that means the Luigi DLC is not attached to anything.

In regards to your query, we can confirm that the New Super Luigi U eShop title has been removed from the eShop at this time. However, you can still purchase this as physical copy through Nintendo Online Store as part of our Nintendo Selects range.
We hope this helps and if you have any further questions or queries, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Well, that's more than a little worrying. Hopefully it goes back up soon, I mean, they wouldn't advertise it as being £8.99 if they were just gonna remove it...right?
I'm confident that this is just an oversight from Nintendo and that they still intend to sell Luigi as an £8.99 DLC.
1) Before the price drop Nintendo explicitly advertised that the Luigi DLC would be available, and that it would cost £8.99.
2) When I checked the eShop (via the green button in the NSMBU menu) just after Friday midnight the Luigi DLC was indeed available for £8.99. (Half an hour later it was gone.)
3) The Luigi page on the eShop says "New Super Luigi U is available alongside New Super Mario Bros. U as part of the Nintendo Selects range as New Super Mario Bros. + New Super Luigi U. It is also available to purchase from Nintendo eShop as add-on content for New Super Mario Bros. U..."
The e-mail reply I had from Nintendo is a copy-and-paste effort which tells me that to buy the Luigi DLC I need a copy of Mario, an Internet connection and a payment card. I replied with more detail.
