Wow, this game is actually pretty good. I was expecting an over hype... also, some reviewer complained about bad controls. They were wrong.
I'm getting used to the controls still.
I meant they complained about the tightness of the controls.
If you like, you can map your own controls in the menu. :3

Don't if I should just buy it on Steam even though the d-pad on the 360 controller sucks as I really want to play this.
I am trying to find the blog post that had the list of controllers that they had made just work. (Fairly sure my Mayflash Adaptor (For Wii Classic Controllers) is one of them but I want to check). Shovel Knight is only about £9 direct from them via the widget. (I bet the eshop price uses 1$=1£.
Buy it from their site and not steam, it will be cheaper and you get also DRM-free version as well.
Game is pretty cool, but on PC the controls suck - I sometimes have a feeling like there is a lock-up and I can't jump and it feels little slippy, but got used to it already. I know I will buy it for WiiU for sure, but I don't know if I will buy it right away - probably will wait for discount, becaue EU got treated like it's second rate and I didn't expect that from, as many call that, "suprerior" indies with no connections to "evul publishers".
The boss battles feel little unimaginitive though - so far even though there were cool ideas for them, like hat master, the pattern is the same - kill them before they will kill you and be agressive as possible. Way too easy. I died more times because of the cheap enemy placement.
I have both the Wii U eShop and 3DS eShop versions of the game. Happy to support Yacht Club Games, and Shovel Knight is so amazing I need it on 2 consoles anyway.

Watch out for the PC version. Some people are having major issues with input lag and that seriously desecrates the whole experience. The game is pure joy, so there is no reason to risk hindering your journey with technical deficiencies.
That said, I can vouch for the Wii U version. Plays great on the TV and Gamepad. And I have high hopes for the eventual multiplayer battle mode. Otherwise, I've heard the 3D effects are astounding on the 3DS and this is really a perfect portable game. Next camping trip will begin with a trip to the eShop because I cannot imagine many better games for playing around a campfire (Zelda: LttP is forever the king of campfire games).
You know, for all the talk about about the overuse of 8-bit retro titles, most of them don't actually play like this. They're usually either sloppy or intentionally go for a different gameplay choice in their platforming. This is one of the few games that actually plays like what it is inspired by for 8 bit gaming(probably smoother too).

whichever reviewer complained about the controls clearly doesn't know what he/she is talking about
Unless he was playing on PC, on which there is a lock-up sometimes or input lag.
Beat the game, took me 8:15 hrs with most things done (6 missing musical sheets) and it was awesome. Although there could be more boss battles like Thinker Knight, it was awesome.
