@AVahne: The decryption of weapon crates can, on occasion, go up more than 2. I think I managed to unlock one crate before I had exhausted all the initial free chips.

@Waluigi I don't think this beta even has microtransactions yet? I looked at the shop part and saw only the option to buy ammo boxes (for free)? I can imagine the rates of getting materials to improve weapons and medals to buy chips etc. will be small enough to "entice" buying them from eShop.

@Pahvi Yeah nothing yet, I imagine the full game will have far more.

@AVahne About PC MMORPGs getting facelifts - PCs tend to get upgraded over time, making them capable of displaying more detailed graphics without the framerate dropping too far. Consoles don't, with the exception of N3DS over 3DS. I do, though, have a faint recollection that Morrowind's Better Heads (or was it Better Faces?) mod used models with about as many polygons as the original models but looked far better.

Played it for about an hour last night. The online experience was smooth for me — found teammates easily, and didn't experience any noticeable lag.

The game itself has is sort of middle of the road. Right off the bat, the "game feel" is just no good — I played with Dwayne (the gun guy) and tried both first- and third-person angles, and it just felt clunky and unresponsive. Why no quick turn button? Why are aiming and running so frustratingly slow? Why is the quick target feature absolutely useless when using guns (in fact, detrimental — I just spray bullets in the general vicinity of the enemy without hitting anything)? This game would be a fun little romp if these easily fixable fundamentals were addressed from the outset.

It's also bizarre to me that you're limited to four characters, and can have a bunch of the same character in your party. Wouldn't this game have been better suited to custom characters?

On the other hand, I was pleasantly surprised by the looting, crafting and leveling up elements. Those looked pretty engaging. However, does anybody understand how the laboratory decryption works? @Pahvi, you seemed to have had some luck — any ideas on how that thing actually functions? I found that one pretty obtuse, and judging by Miiverse, I'm not alone.

Negative as all that sounds, the game was interesting enough for me to pop into again sometime — I gave Mr. Splatterhouse Vorhees a try in training before I quit last night, and melee combat seemed more responsive than the ranged action. If the in-app purchases of the final release aren't obnoxious, I could see this being a nice, casual game for the occasional bit of off-TV play.

I know I'm going to get a lot of hate for this, but honestly I feel it doesn't look all that worse than Xenoblade X (heralded as Wii U's best looking game for some reason) in certain ways.

I just want you to know that you are a crazy person.

@VelvetElvis: I'd think that the default result is +2 steps of progress. And with some rather small probability, you can get the crate either completely decrypted or progress so much that it's almost the same thing. That time I was just skipping the animation altogether. I don't think it has any interactivity to it, other than skipping the animation.

The blue glowing enemies drop weapons. I don't know what I get at the relic room by standing on the lit panels... something probably happens, but I don't know what.

@VelvetElvis I usually use Dwayne and sometimes Shadow Stalker too.

The default aiming is very slow, but I usually have the sensitivity around 7 or so which works a lot better for me.

Wait, people think Lost Reavers looks good? I'm not even obsessed with graphics in a game at all and yet I know the Lost Reavers looks like a GameCube game with HD graphics (I don't even know... I played it on the GamePad). Everything from the enemies to the textures to the running animation is just off-looking. I find it hard to believe people think the Lost Reavers looks very good. Did someone even compare it to XCX? Are you freakin' kidding me? What?!
Anyway, here are my thoughts (note that these are opinions about the beta and are liable to change in the final game). In general, It's slightly better than a "meh." I'm really interested in this game because I like the idea of getting loot and exploring temples/other locales. I even like the fact that my teammates and I have to get the relic back to the transporter in one piece. Solid gameplay there.... now only if it was executed just right. Every mission just feels extremely shallow. It's just go straight, defeat the enemies with a not-very-satisfying combat system, hold A, go through three (THREE!) sections and go backwards. Really? Is that all? I sure hope not. Where are my hidden loot? Where are the secret pathways? Why are the enemies dead things (the spider enemy was cool)?
Then there's the Terminal menu which is very decent for the most part... but I don't understand how to decipher the code in the laboratory. I'm trying to make sense of it and all I'm gathering is that you just tap A many times. Really? I think more could have been done here. In some way.
Thankfully it's just a beta. The missions should feel much more robust in the final mission. At least so had enough fun to spend more than an hour going on (the same) missions (many times). Even the music is good, especially the music that plays when you have to return the relic in the temple to the transporter. I'm just barely satisfied.

@VelvetElvis You click the right analogue-stick for a quick turn.

@Pahvi Those floor panels in the relic room fill your health to maximum when you stand on them (one for each player). I've lost count of the amount of times I've danced on them, shot them, and spammed the "Come this way!" text while my almost-dead teammates are either obliviously running to the exit or staring at me like I'm mad. This game seriously needs voice chat.

Anyway, I'm enjoying this game, especially the boss/mini-boss battles. I'd buy a retail copy if it were available. Free? No complaints. Well, maybe two:

-The aforementioned lack of voice chat.
-People joining my room when I want to play solo.

Well I'm playing the game on the TV and the game does look better than I expected. That's really great! The running animation and stuff is still off, but yeah the game looks nice in HD.
@Monkey_Balls I don't think I've encountered any bosses so far. Which one are you talking about?

So I just played a few missions.. And not only did I experience lag, but I couldn't use my sword to destroy the boxes or kill enemies. I just kept swiping at them but nothing happened. This happen to anyone?

Wow. I'm playing solo and I can't even get past the first room. Too many enemies!
Anyone wanna play? I want to reach Lv. 15 and see those unlocked missions. I'm guessing that's where the bosses are!

@Vee_Flames What level are you on? The game opens up as you advance; more missions are unlocked when you reach levels 10, 15 and so on. The boss battles start at level 15 and the missions have a bit more variety: branching paths, larger levels, mini/main bosses, different enemies, etc. The game also gets a lot harder very fast.

Mini-bosses I've encountered so far are the Undead Chef and the (somewhat obligatory for this type of game?) Zombie Cop. Both can one-hit kill you if their main attack connects. I've also faced a main boss (some weird tentacle thing which kicked my butt) and been on at least one other mission where a main boss could have been fought (but I ignored it; those things are tough!).

It seems the boss levels give you the choice to either go for the boss or escape with the relic (or possibly both? Not sure as I've always died); it can be quite comical when a party is in disagreement, mostly due to the limited chat function.
"Lets take out the boss."
"No."
"Yes."
"No."
"I'm on my way!"
"No."
"Come this way!"
"No."
"Help me!"
"No."
It can be quite the stand off, haha.
