Topic: Nintendo should dump all of the Wii's WiiWare games on the Wii U eshop

If the game was originally compatible with the Classic Controller, then it would be compatible with the Wii U Game Pad, but no other upgrades.

I would prefer they don't charge a transfer fee or release the WiiWare games one by one. Just dump them all indiscriminately in their own section. Whatever licensing issues would have been resolved with the Wii shop versions.

Oh sure, people could just go to the Wii mode to play them, but I'd rather not. And the game channels look nicer on the main screen of the Wii U than on Wii.

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

While I would love to see thag happen, I am not sure if they can legally. When they made deals to sell those games with companies, those deals were made for the Wii Shop not the eShop. Going back and changing those deals might be impossible. However, I would encourage all devs that made WiiWare titles to port then over to Wii U if possible. That would be nice

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

I don't think that's how licensing works.

Yeah I don't think they can port for example the few Final Fantasy games like My Life as a King without Square-Enix's permission. I'd wager they don't own the licenses for most Wiiware games.

You can have only have 300 games/downloads on the Wii U and 300 games/channels in Wii Mode. I had to start deleting.

I have hit the limit by having 300+ games on each. I deleted Wii VC games I can buy on Wii U to have room for all my WiiWare stuff.
But recently I hit the limit on Wii U as well, and needed to delete some demos and unused apps. Soon I will have to delete my first games, and I think that's a shame and needs a system update. More than 70% of my external harddrive is still unused.

All of the Wii virtual console and WiiWare games owned by Nintendo should have been transferable to the Wii U menu and available on the Wii U e-shop day one.

This I can agree with. Nintendo's own properties have no excuse. My main hope for the NX is a unified library of Nintendo games that I don't have to re-buy all over again next generation, or the one after.

i too have wondered about this, i wonder if all the mega man 9 and 10 dlc will still be available to re download even if youve deleted it. i mean youve already purchased it so im hoping it will transfer over to whatever they end up porting it to, if they do...

@TheLastLugia: Who said anything about a port? I said that Nintendo should transfer the WiiWare portion of the Wii shop to the Wii U eshop. Basically it would just be accessing the Wii shop from the Wii U eshop (but still using the Wii U eshop layout) and all WiiWare games would be able to be downloaded straight to Wii U so that the game's channel icon is shown on the Wii U main menu instead of having to go into Wii mode. If you purchase a WiiWare game from the Wii U eshop, it would also count as being purchased on the Wii shop and vice versa. Nothing to do with licensing or need to re-license the games. The 3DS didn't need any new licensing for the DSiWare games being added to its shop. Prices for each game would be based on the Wii shop's cost for purchasing points. In the UK, its £7 for 1000 points. So all 500 point games would be £3.50 and so on. Other than Game Pad controls for those games able to use the Classic Controller, there wouldn't be any other upgrades.

Thats how I would do it anyway.

@Bass_X0: DSiWare store was created a few years before the 3DS eShop. The WiiWare store was created many years before the Wii U eShop. I would bet there was some sort of agreement with the DSiWare games that Nintendo could sell those games on another digital store, might not have been there for the Wii Shop. If there was not something in place when those WiiWare games were released, they would need to go back and make new deals for each game. I think the Nintendo owned games could make that jump, but anything not theirs would be difficult and require a lot of work.

@Bass_X0: yeah as discussed above I think the individual devs would have to sign off on their games being transferred to the Wii U eShop. If you wanna contact one of them that have done this to ask how they had it done, I know Ronimo Studio had Swords and Soldiers (one of the best Wiiware games IMO) transferred to the eShop before they released Swords and Soldiers 2.

For the Nintendo owned games? I don't have a clue why they aren't all available. Maybe wait for the New Wii U? Haha. But seriously were there even 5 Wiiware classics that Nintendo created and still own to this day? The only standout one I can think of is My Pokemon Ranch, and is stands out because it was terrible. And The Pokemon Company probably still own that game, not Nintendo.

So yeah what good Nintendo Wiiware games were there?

@TheLastLugia: I believe Swords and Soldiers was ported to Wii U, it doesn't run in Wii Mode and it can use the GamePad.

The attorney at Nintendo legal who allowed the scope of the license to be limited to the Wii eShop, rather than "Nintendo eShops" in general, was an idiot.

DSiware is available in 3DS eshop, so this need to be the same situation. To download Wiiware in Wii U eshop. This must be done in day one.

The other option is to show all wiiware games but when you click "buy" you will be transferred to Wii mode Wii shop and problem fixed this way if there is a lot complex to keep them in Wii U eshop. This is like a quick access button and their sales will be growing a lot, because a lot users don`t know there is a second shop.

Me gusta jugar videojuegos. Soy de México. Sorry my english grammar. I love the Virtual Console, party and fighting games too.
