So if prices are gonna be staying the same, does this mean we will be paying $15-20 for Gamecube games?

@brooks83 No. Wind Waker HD will be $60 most likely.

...in my pants.

Okay, I'm pretty sure this has been brought up by now, but I'll say it again anyhoo.
First: If you have purchased any virtual console games on the wii....they transfer. Nintendo made an easy to use transfer tool from your Wii to your WiiU. So Nintendo is not making you purchase anything you already own.
Second: The virtual console games that are coming out on the WiiU Eshop are not identical to the ones on the Wii. The developers have had to do extra coding for each game to be able to play on the game pad, extra coding for creating save points with the game, and extra coding for you being able to customize your controls for your controller of choice. Money was spent by Nintendo to pay developers to do this, and they need to recoup this expense.
If you want to play these virtual console games using these extra features, then you can pay the extra 99 cents. If you don't need those features, simply transfer your old wii games over. I hope this helps.

I think it depends on if they go for HD releases with all of their GCN titles or if they do some as just plain VC games. I could see them doing both, much like they've had the regular VC games on the 3DS as well as the 3D Classics series.

Very nice explanation !! Nintendo deserves a tiny bit of appreciation for porting them to Wii U ! And let's face it, 99 cents per game + ability to play on gamepad en customize controls + extra save points !! NIce deal !! SO quit complaining !!

If I buy a PlayStation 1 game I can play it - and share saves - between my PS3 and Vita. No cost for that privilege.

With Nintendo I need to spend more money just for the ability for the Wii U to stream the game to... The Wii U

Complete and utter fail. There is no excuses here.

Wind Waker HD is not VC. It's a full retail release from what I understand. Not really related to their plans (if there are any) for a Gamecube VC.

And I doubt they will put Wind Waker GCN on the eShop to compete with this for people's money.

Why shouldn't NIntendo do this? Because Sony doesn't? You already bought the games and can still play them on the Wii U. You just don't have a few menial features. It's basically DLC, the way I see it.
Now, charging for the games on the 3DS is an entirely different story, but what Nintendo is doing here seems justified.

Disagree. The limited space in the Wii mode of the Wii U, its inability to read SD cards and the lack of integration with the Activity Log and MiiVerse and such are all less-than-subtle ways for Nintendo to force users to 'upgrade'.

Since when has the Wii U not been able to read SD cards for VC games? Based off of others' impressions it works fine. You just have to redownload them all onto it after transfer is all.

Miiverse and the activity log weren't something people considered when purchasing these games. They got what they paid for. Why should they get more?

Nintendo can do whatever it likes. I'm just pointing out that compared to Sony where I can play my PSOne classics across my Vita, PSP and PS3, and even some retail games allow me to download the game for free onto my Vita if I buy the PS3 version, Nintendo is being anti-consumer and gouging. No cross-compatibility with the 3DS - I can't just copy my existing copy of Balloon Pop over - and the Wii U can't even stream Wii VC games without costing extra.

Gouging.

It's like Sony and Microsoft gets it right when it comes to digital games and Nintendo fails on every level. And the fact that many people act like it's no big deal shows how gamers these days will allow companies to walk over them like it's no big deal. It's like everyone has the mentality of ''The developer and/or company is always right and we consumers should be like obedient and blind sheep''. THAT'S what bothers me more than anything else, and the simple fact that people will act like there's nothing wrong with it just shows how gamers will allow developers to walk over them. It's honestly sad.

Not having your PSP retail games on the Vita is an awful thing, but at least it's understandable. Sony simply couldn't stick with UMD, so they had to cut something odd. But the fact remains that I still own a PSP and have the option of just not buying the PSN version of my PSP games if I so choose.

The problem is that Nintendo really doesn't have an excuse for doing this besides greed. The simple fact with Sony is once you buy a downloadable game you never have to pay for it again even if it has an update. I guess with Nintendo I should expect to pay extra money if I want additional features every time I buy a new console. It's stuff like this that makes me realize that the Wii U might possibly be the last Nintendo home console that I buy. I don't hate them but it's obvious that they're not going to change, and if it weren't for the games on Nintendo platforms then I probably would have quit supporting them during this last generation.

@Waltz: Okay, none of that sounds good. I don't have a Wii U, so explain to me what's going on.

All you're doing in that process is playing a PS1 game through a built-in emulator. It doesn't have any extra features, and all you're doing is trasferring save states (a right no company should take away).

However, what Nintendo is doing with VC is adding new features to existing games. For a buck or a buck fifty, I think that's worth it.

And before you nag the people of this site by reminding us that "the 3DS ambassador games were upgraded for free" argument, let me remind you that the only reason they even have those games is because they paid extra for the system. That extra cost easily covers both the titles and the upgrades.

@CaptainMorpheus: But Sony added extra features when you play PSP games on your Vita...for free. It seems like a lot of people don't realize that.

Smartbutt, I'm talking about when you play PSP PSN games on your Vita to be more precise.

That would certainly suck for people with lots of UMDs, wouldn't it?

Nintendo gives consumers an option. They can keep the games they already bought without upgrades and continue to play them. Or, if they want to, they can purchase an upgrade for a dollar. The people who bought what they bought still have access to it. They just aren't getting extras. This isn't something to complain over, since you still have what you bought. Once again, it's basically like DLC.

Now, something to complain about is when you want to play Rolando on your iPod touch again and you figure out that you can't play it without a 4th gen device or higher now despite the fact that it was perfectly playable on your second gen ipod before.
But I digress.
