You guys can play them on your Wii U. Leave it in Wii Mode. If you don't care about restore points or gamepad functionality, why is it such a big deal for you? I don't get the furor.
@TBD: It's more of the fact that Nintendo is doing this out of pure greed. I just never thought that they would charge for updates, but I should have known. It's really the idea behind it that bothers me more than anything else.
They're not charging for updates. They're charging for a new version of a game on a new system.
right right can someone confirm that all of the VC games will be transferred or is the wii u VC starting again ?? ?
@Jogurt: You can transfer all of your VC games to the Wii U for free and play them the same way you play them on your Wii. However if you want any enhanced features such as restore points and Miiiverse, you have to give Nintendo your money.
@Svengoolie: Nintendo can call it a ''new version'' all they want. In reality, it's just an update that adds several new features, something you shouldn't have to pay for.

The video addressed this...they're not "updates". These VC games are being rebuilt from the ground up code-wise. I don't know about you but as a programmer I'd like to be paid when I'm asked to remake something from the ground up for a different platform. It's not solely greed, it'd be completely ignorant to address it as such. The fact that they're charging less than full price already for people who have a different version of the game would be considered charitable.

For the record, I have 50 virtual console games. But there are only, like, 10 games I'd really want to play with the added features. It's not gonna kill me to upgrade those ten games. I find it hard to believe you'd need to upgrade that many games. What about games you've finished? You gonna upgrade them, too?
@Jogert, I don't mind and I have 80+ games (is that only a few?)
Digitaloggery 3DS FC: Otaku1 WiiU: 013017970991 Nintendo of Japan niconico community is full of kawaii! Must finish my backlagg or at least get close this year W...

Welcome to the world of digital distribution. Charging people to have have their physical games in digital form has always been greedy. So what's a few more dollars for an upgrade, right?
BTW I can't believe you guys bought so many VC games. I think I have about 15--maybe 20 since the Club Nintendo promo started.

That's true. No way am I going to upgrade Super Mario: The Lost Levels. That game is dead to me.
So let me get this straight. You people pay for for SMB, SMB2 and SMB3 on the NES years ago. You than pay for a Super Mario All Star Collection to play the same games on SNES with updated graphics and sound. Years later you pay for a copy of SMA on a Wii disc to play it on your Wii. Why is every getting upset cause they have to rebuy VC games that they had on their Wii to play on the Wii U with updated ability to play on the gamepad?
Heres a some simple solutions if it bothers you that much.
1. Dont transfer your VC games from your Wii to your Wii U
2. If you did transfer play them in the Wii Mode on your Wii U
No one is forcing you to rebuy anything you choose too. Nintendo is a business business need to make money to survive. You offer a service or item and expect me to pay for it lets see how you would feel if I didnt want to pay for it. I am sure you would complain at me for not paying you.

I have a large collection too, but first of all, I won't transfer them all, and second, Nintendo isn't going to release all of them right away. It's a new VC and the library is starting from scratch. This isn't an update, it's an upgrade, and the difference is instead of simply adding features to the Wii emulator they're starting over from the ground up. You do not deserve this version simply because you bought the Wii version, Nintendk put time and money into this and offering us the new version for only a dollar more is generous. Call them greedy if you want but the fact remains that they are another company in our struggling economy and need to pay their employees for the time put into these new versions. Nintendo isn't forcing you to upgrade, so if a dollar is too much then don't do it.

If this was for the Wii itself, you might have a point about 'greed' and paying for updates, but it's for the Wii U, a brand new system. For them to go out of their way to even offer the updated VC titles is a good thing, much less to offer people who've already bought the games for their Wii a discount on the updated versions.
Again, it's an option. If you don't like it, no one's forcing you to pay for it.

So I am wondering how many people here are upset about having to pay a fraction of the cost to download their VC game on the Wii U VC are excited to hear about the news of Wind Waker coming to the Wii U and are planning to buy it when it comes out?

1. Restore Points: Great for those Nintendo Hard games of yesteryear!
2. GamePad Play: Play all your favorite classics without needing a TV!
3. MiiVerse Functionality: Tell all the world about how you beat Super Mario Bros. without losing a life!
4. Remap buttons
To me, the upgrade fee is a satisfactory compromise provided that they eventually offer the bulk of my VC titles. Time will tell.
So you guys think you can pay for a license to legally play software on the Wii and then continue to play it on each new Nintendo system for the rest of your life?

Not me. I keep telling yoose guys you don't have any control over your digital games. (Still think $30 and $60 dollars is a fair price for them?) Only buy them when they're cheap and treat them like rentals. Just play them and move on.
