Topic: Can I not buy eshop games if there is no room to download them?

My plan was to buy the Metroid trilogy today for the ten dollar sale price, and download it later on when I am able to afford an external hard drive. I have the 8gb Wii U, so I cannot make enough room for it by deleting stuff. I tried to buy it, but it just keeps telling me there is no room and directs me to the Data management screen with no option to continue buying. I do not want to download it right now, I just want to buy it. Is there no way to buy without downloading?

Currently playing: Smash Bros. 3DS, Xenoblade Chronicles, Alpha Sapphire.

Here you go. You can buy a download code from here and then use it whenever you have the space. Select "Buy Digital" on the right and follow the steps.

Good luck

I can't buy from there. I don't have a debit card and I can't find an option to use my eshop balance. Why is this so tricky?

You got me. You can try purchasing a VISA Gift card from a retailer and use that to make the purchase

Man, I'm broke though. I spent my last few bucks on the eshop card to buy this. I wish I could get the money back from that now. This is making me sad.

The only one I have is about 4gb, and I stored a lot of photos on it. No go. Man, I'm missing just about everything I could use to get this bought...

You must have friends, borrow a device or flash card to buy the game

IIRC this game is about 7.7 gigs. I'm not sure how much space the OS takes up, but it is quite possible that you'll need an external storage device regardless, as this may not fit in an 8 gig Wii U even if you totally empty it.

My suggestion for a short term fix would be to move all those pictures off of the card onto a google drive account. If you don't already have one, it's completely free, there's 15 gigs of space, and uploading is a relatively quick and easy process. Once the pictures are off, use the now empty card to move things off of the Wii U HDD and onto the Google drive until your Wii U is totally emptied. Then try to buy your game. If that doesn't work, you're SOL and you'll have to pony up for an external if you ever want to download it.

The game is a little over 8 GB on the eShop. I'm in the same boat, as I only have an 8GB flash drive so it won't even fit on there. I do have the game on disc so it's not the end of the world, but I guess I will be having to pay $20 for a digital copy. Still worth it though

There's not enough room to download it on an 8 gb period, so that won't work. I don't understand why I can't just buy it without downloading it...

Are you sure there's not enough room if you remove everything that you can? You just might be able to squeeze it in. Otherwise, maybe you could try contacting Nintendo. I don't know whether or not they can help your situation, but they are known for their excellent customer service. If there's anything they CAN do to help you, they'll do it.

Yoshi

No, there is no way to squeeze the game onto an 8 GB console. The OS easily eats up about half of it already.

When I got mine after the day one dl I only had about 5 gigs left so that's all you have to play with period unfortunately.

The only other thing I can think of is a usb plug in card reader. As long as you have a memory card big enough and free of anything else on it, It might work.

Worst case you miss out on the sale price and the regular price is still pretty good. It's really not the end of the world and you can still get the game.

Just delete some of your games and redownload them when you have an external hard drive. You won't have to pay for them again.

Well, I got a used 500 gb My Passport portable hard drive for $30 today and I'm downloading the game now. Of course, now I'm about $10 behind rent, but that shouldn't be a problem...I hope. I can borrow ten from someone. No, I'm not irresponsible. Why do you ask?

Edit: I'm using a y-cable with it. As far as I know, portable hard drives will only work with a Y-cable connecting the drive to the console. The game just installed. Looks to be working okay.

You can either use a y-cable or a powered USB hub - the issue with portable drives is that the Wii U doesn't output enough power over USB to drive one of these reliably using a single cable.
