Righteous Weasel Games is releasing the wonderfully retro looking 3D action-adventure title 8-Bit Hero on the Wii U eShop in North America, this Thursday! The game looks like a true Zelda-inspired adventure game with a little Minecraft thrown into the mix the ladder of which is mostly on a visual standpoint! The game also features 5-player co-op which sounds really radical! Here's the official trailer for the game:
The game will be priced at $4.99. What do you think of this game based on the trailer? I'm really interested in this game because it looks like it might be a rather unique title in the sense that there really aren't that many indie adventure genre titles currently available on the Wii U eShop! Anyways let the discussion begin!
I looked at the title of 8-Bit Hero and I figured it was yet another 2D NES style game so I was actually pleasantly surprised it's something in 3D. I will keep an eye out for reviews now.
High hopes for some simple, fun co-op adventuring and dungeon crawling from this one. Looks like it certainly has the potential to offer that, but it will really depend on the type/variety of attacks, equipment, and pickups available to ensure a compelling overall experience. Also would be cool if there was some type of scoring system in place for replayability if the game isn't particularly long.
Judging by the video the decision to use a flat polygon board to stick an 8 bit sprite texture on is making attack contact unnecessarily finicky, as the enemy polygon board must be on the precise z plane as the swords attack animation, and they are both literally paper thin.
But the dealbreaker for me is the level based design. No overworld no deal.
