Fans, if they love Earthbound so much, should also be mentioning the original Famicom/NES title since that's much more realistic since it was actually translated by Nintendo of America back in the day, just never released.
Instead, you never see Mother 1 or whatever it's called, ever mentioned in lists like this one.
Too bad that the high quality fan translation of the GBA title couldn't be secured. Where fan translations go, this one pretty much leads the pack and was very professionally done. But I think we all know that Nintendo would never even consider taking that route.
That's because Mother 1 is a game that has aged much worse than its sequels. I consider myself a big fan of the series, and I really don't care one way or another about having Mother 1 on Virtual Console, as I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be getting it.
I'd rather see a Sonic HD compilation. They've recreated that one and the first two Sonics in full HD. Paired with a similar effort for Sonic 3 & Knuckles, I'd love to see that come to the Wii U. Especially if it was a $20 or $30 retail release, instead of a digital exclusive.

If they release GameCube games, they need to include the first two Pikmin games. I've only played the third installation, and I love it! So yeah, Pikmin 1 and 2, please.

Ugh the N64 library is just too much. There's like 60 games I can think of that deserve a spot or that need new life.
If they release GameCube games, they need to include the first two Pikmin games. I've only played the third installation, and I love it! So yeah, Pikmin 1 and 2, please.
They'd surely bring the Wii installments over instead. 16:9 support and the well received Wii control layout for both ports would make it a pretty bizarre decision to release the GCN originals instead.
If downloadable GCN games happen on the Wii U, I think we can safely eliminate the Pikmin, Zelda, and Metroid franchies from consideration. I just explained the Pikmin situation, both Metroid titles are already available digitally in their enhanced Wii forms, and Zelda doesn't make sense for several reasons.
The Wind Waker has been remastered, the classic NES and N64 titles are or likely soon will be available via the Wii U's Virtual Console, and Four Swords Adventures would lose its multiplayer if it were made available and probably would stay in the vault.
That leaves Twilight Princess and again, that one saw a Wii release with widescreen support, which surely would be the version they release on the Wii U.

I second the Commodore 64/Amiga games suggestion. All of the LucasArts SCUMM games would be perfect with the touch screen!
I feel like Square Enix might be a lost cause, as they have moved on to putting even SNES games on Sony's systems, but there is always a chance!
Sega is probably the only other thing I would care about.
