I liked Metroid Fusion better. The extra color, sound, and easier controls were what made me like it SLIGHTLY better. The only issue was game length in comparison. There's pros each one has, like Super Metroid being longer, better environment, the grapple beam, running all fast like, and Fusion having more color, and easier controls I think. Both worth a play definitely, but I actually like the first and third Prime most...
Super Metroid actually isn't that long. If you know where to go you can really run through the game pretty quick.
Metroid Fusion is just a "go here and do this" kind of game, whereas Super Metroid is a "where the %$#@ do I go?" kind of game. The "go here and do this" kind of games seem to be popular these days, where most open-world games in the NES-SNES era were that of the latter. I personally prefer exploring rather than being told where to go and what to do. To this day, I still can't get myself to play Metroid Prime 3. Who do these people think they are, giving Samus orders like that? I'll put up with that in Metroid Fusion or Zero Mission, because it's still got the classic Super Metroid gameplay, but if you take the exploration and agility out of a Metroid game, how is it even a Metroid game anymore? Oh, right, because you're playing as Samus....
I'm old school when it comes to gaming, grew up to colecovision & atari. I've played a many games on many systems in my day ... and Super Metroid always has and most likely always will be my Favorite Game Of All time!
On the bright side, I got the Wave Beam (which I should have honestly had by now. I have no idea how I skipped it before), and I did my first successful repeated bomb jump.
Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)
The only reason I'm so excited to get Super Metroid again for the Wii U VC is due to its gamepad support, as I've wanted a handheld Super Metroid experience for quite some time now. Once I download it, my Wii U playtime is going to spike.

What's the precise date we receive this one again?

I just beat it! Absolutely amazing experience! That final boss was incredible (although not as surprising as it was meant to be. 20 year old game + internet = spoiled ages ago).
Anyhow, I completed it in around 11 hrs, with 82% item collection. Not too bad for a first attempt, I hope.
I wouldn't say it beats out Fusion as my favorite in the series, or A Link to the Past as my favorite SNES title, but it was still a breathtaking experience that deserves all the praise it gets

I'm already done, with it taking me around 1 hour 27 minutes playing exclusively on the game pad. The only problem I had compared to my typical runs of Super Metroid using the classic controller is acquiring the Ice Beam (via Mock Ball trick) before the Speed Booster and Wave Beam. In spite of that, I still got Samus to strip down to her two piece. I really like Super Metroid as a portable experience, as I feel like I get more of the experience with it off of the TV, having the visuals and sounds much closer to me and ultimately clearer. The game pad doesn't complete the transition for Super Metroid, so I would make a third purchase of this classic if it were to come to the 3DS's VC. It's certainly able to work on that system based on how it went using the game pad.
