yeah, I wish I knew more myself. I've been dealing with a lot of patent fine print lately and my feeling is that there is some sort of legal snag where the algorithms for polygon rendering in Star Fox and sprite stretching in Yoshi's Island are somehow legally patented pieces of tech, so even though Nintendo wouldn't need to use the FX chip to rerelease the games, they would still be calling on patented pieces of code. Just a guess, tho...
Nintendo could easily release Star Fox, as is evidenced by Star Fox Command being almost identical to the first game. Yoshi's Island was remade and then given a sequel. Certainly there is no problem.

I can care less about Yoshi's Island, when there are so many other titles that I'd rather see made available first IMO. But you are right there really shouldn't be a problem. Like I said in another thread, I think these companies know what they're doing. They want to see a certain amount of revenue before they make the most requested titles available. There would've been no real reason to create the VC, if only a few titles sold frequently or at all. All in all what I'm saying is, they're milking the VC for whatever they can get out of it. Why else would it take so long to receive Final Fantasy 3 and Crono Trigger? (<:

If you really want to play the game here's a solution: Go to an online retailer and purchase it. That simple.
Everybody knows that already. Thats not the issue. Its not about having a means to play it, its about being able to play it on the Virtual Console. We're fans of the Virtual Console. We want more games for the Virtual Console. Its why we're on this particular forum of NintendoLife and not the Retro forum. I have perfectly functional SNES cartridges and a SNES to play them on. However, I still want them to be released on the VC and I would download them despite already owning them.

It is more than likely who owns the rights to the technology for the Super FX chip that is stopping these games from coming out. Yeah there are places out there that you can google but lets not forget these places are illegal so they dont have to deal with the rights issue hence why there illegal. It might very well be that the company wants too much from the VC sales and in the end it wont be worth putting it on the VC, cause in order to cover the cost they would have to charge more for the VC game than just the average price of a VC SNES game.

Ok now I am really confused but according to Nintendo Life's news section Yoshi's Island will be made available for 3DS owners who buy/bought their 3DS before August 11th. They will be able to download the GBA version for free. So does someone want to tell me why they cant put the SNES version on the Wii's VC for 1000 points (or whatever a SNES game costs) Now I am not so sure its about the Super FX chip licensing anymore if they can put the GBA version on the 3DS VC.

@ Tasuki I heard the GBA version of Yoshi's Island didn't use the Super FX chip so that might be why. It's still hard to believe they couldn't get that game to run properly on Wii.

Simple! The GBA version doesn't use the FX chip.
