I think MvC is unlikely to come to Wii because it's an arcade game. As far as I've noticed, there have been no contemporary arcade games released on VC. There's also the common perception that these kinds of games will fare better on 360 or PS3, so it might not be seen as worth it. Licensing clearly has nothing to do with it since it's been released on 360 and soon will be on PS3.

What do you mean by contemporary?

Adam

I meant to say recent or modern. All the ones released so far, as far as I've noticed, have been fairly old ones. I don't know that they're planning to release arcade games as recent as MvC.

Come on, friends,

Well, storage can't be an issue for MVC 1 as it's a CPS-II game & according to System 16, the biggest CPS-II games are 322 mb so it shouldn't be too much of an issue. Even if a few CPS-II games go past the 40 MB limit for VC & Wiiware, it only takes a little bit of compression for them to fit the maximum size requirements.

Of course, there's still the issue of profitability.

@DjPhatskillz: There were some genuinely great licenced titles back in the day (think almost everything Capcom/Disney or Virgin Games/Disney, among others) that some of us would love to be able to play on VC now. Personally, I think it sucks that this game that already exists has to be re-licenced in the first place. Stupid legal system...

All the same, I would have to say that Super Smash Bros. Fan1999 is overreacting, as usual. I mean seriously, this is a bit much:

In fact, I wouldn't be surprise if Marvel and DC Comics found out that there characters was recolor or mutated in Revenge of Shinobiand sued the hell out of Nintendo just for that. Even worse, we may lose any hope of the game releasing in our shore and it could mean the removal of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtlesfor the NES, which would destroy all chances of ANY license game on the Virtual Console.

First off, they wouldn't sue NINTENDO, they'd sue SEGA, as they're the ones who programmed it. TBC...

Even so, I don't think they'd sue SEGA either. After all, they changed Batman to his current form BECAUSE of legal action years ago! It's pretty clear that this sort of mild change is okay based on that fact alone!

Next comes the "point" about the theoretical REMOVAL of TMNT from the VC. That just makes no sense whatsoever! That game was legally licenced for VC release (though my research shows that it was somewhat convoluted, as the Live Arcade version was published by Ubisoft the previous month), and there's no reason for it to be removed barring some stupid limited-use clause in the licencing deal for it (which I would certainly hope wasn't an issue for a digital release!).

So the chances for more licenced games on VC are sadly quite low due to financial considerations, but that in no way means this release of Revenge of Shinobi is a cause for panic. He just likes to panic for some reason.

Wait. What do you mean by the removal of TMNT from the VC? Do you mean the 1st TMNT game being removed from the VC?

Yeah, I was referring to Smash Bros. Fan's crazy idea that it would be removed. I say, no way, unless my previously stated stupid circumstance comes true. Nothing to worry about, anyway.

My question is: even if companies don't view the VC as a profit, how much would it cost them to put their game on there in the first place?

We don't really know, now do we? We do know that the cost increases a good bit when there are multiple parties that want a piece of the pie, though. It's easier to come to a mutually beneficial agreement on how to split profit from the sale of a $50 retail game than a $5 downlaod.

I would not rule it out. I am hoping for Batman for the NES and X-Men for the Sega Genesis

I don't see what the re-colouring of Spider-Man has to do with anything. It was stated in the game review that Spider-Man was originally cool because Sega had a license for the character to appear in games at the time it was created. Clearly they couldn't be bothered with renewing that license to release this game again over a decade later; that has nothing to do with Nintendo or whether or not other game based upon 3rd party licenses can or will appear on the VC in the future.

There is no blanket statement or assumption that can be made about this issue because if anyone decides to put out a given title containing 3rd party licensed images/names/characters/whatever then they'd need to negotiate with rightsholders to do so on a case by base basis.
