The real Final Fantasy II is already out in Japan for VC and III is coming out this month over there. Since the remakes were released overseas, do you think there is a chance that they will be released in NA and EU for VC as well?
Eh. Short of Square translating the games or paying DeJap or whoever did the ROM translations back in the day, it just doesn't seem necessary....SE seems to be all about the do-no-work/get-paid arrangement, and this would require work.

VC games don't get translated. So no. It doesn't matter if the remakes got released outside of Japan in English, the originals remain completely in Japanese. And even if some company did translate the game using the remake's script, the cost would be bumped up considerably. If you want to play NES Final Fantasy II and Final Fantasy III, you'd best look for one of the remakes.
Technically, a VC game could be translated. S&P got a menu translation, though perhaps that had already been done back in the 64 days, I don't know. But most Japanese releases don't even get menu translations (I'm looking at you, Bomberman 94), so yea, it's highly unlikely.
Not to mention Square already said they're only releasing 1 and 4 in the West. Why not 6? I have no idea.
The closest you can get to playing the originals is on PS3. Most of the old ones are being released in Japan right now, and I think they're supposed to come out in the West, too, since they're basically individual ports of the games included in each PS1 anthology disc. I've only played 4, 5, and 6 (of the classics), so I'm really eager to play the NES games.
Fine by me, so long as the originals get released eventually. It does make deciding which system to get the games on difficult though. Do I want 4 on Wii so I can get After Years alongside it? Or do I want it on PS3 so it can be with all the other Final Fantasies if they get released there? Decisions, decisions!
Not pointing in any directions due to the questionable legality, but if you want to play the originals translated there are some fan-translated ROMs out there if you're keen on using an emulator. Pretty well done from what little i've seen of them.
EDIT: As for the SNES FFs (IV and VI), i'm betting we won't see VC releases for some time, if at all, since IV just got the DS treatment. VI is slightly more likely, since it's last Nintendo redux was for GBA unless there's a DS remake in the works as well. It would make sense though to release IV, if only to compliment TAY.
Square already announced that Final Fantasy 1 and 4 are coming to the West on VC. I think we can safely assume by their selective answer that the other games are not coming to our VC. I have to head out for the day, so I don't have time to dig up the source. If no one else finds it (it was from GDC, I think?), I'll dig it up tomorrow (assuming I remember).
They did confirm a US Virtual Console release of FF1 at GDC, which was also when they announced FFIV:TAY for WiiWare. They may have also confirmed FFIV then, but i don't know.
It's an import, so it's unlikely. Then again, I don't really care if it comes out or not, since I don't care about it and that they are imports, so I shouldn't care if they didn't come out on the Wii Virtual Console or not. However, they must release Final Fantasy VI on the Virtual Console, but that'll probably require us gamers to wait until the next Nintendo console.
Only one i'm interested in right now is IV. I'd rather see a release for the Dragon Quest games (don't say Warrior, I already know...).
I'm with you there. I just started playing DQIV on DS today, my first entry in the series. Great stuff. I'd love to be able to play the NES ones someday.
DQIV is a great game. I have it and I am an adult (in the game). I sat it down and haven't picked it back up yet though. I need to do that. Must finish Chrono Trigger first though
Heh, i'm also playing DQIV now; loved the original 3 on NES (i was one of those who got the first one via the Nintendo Power deal). Or rather i was until i was sidetracked by the GBA release of FF6. I'm i think about 2/3 through or so, and know i better pick it back up soon lest i completely forget what was going on. I just finished the World of Balance in FF6, so that's should be a good natural break point to get back to DQIV.
I don't really care if it comes out or not, since I don't care about it and that they are imports, so I shouldn't care if they didn't come out on the Wii Virtual Console or not.
I think we get the message that you don't care.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!
