...because my plan of a Universal thread was flawed.T_T

Should be simple to figure out, just ask which game you should get. Make sure to list your price range, how many points you can spend, and some semblence of what you're looking for(because a recommendation is useless if the recommendation is from a genre or series you really, really hate).

What would help is if we had an fourm searcher....

Looking for a good VC title, have a STRONG feeling I'm getting a 2000 point card fo Christmas, and I plan on getting nyxquest. So I want to know what VC game I could get with the 1000 leftover points. I already have -

  • SMB1&3
  • SMW
  • SM64
  • PaperM
  • TLoZ
  • Zelda: ALttP
  • Metroid & Super
  • BoFII
  • HarvestM
  • SF64
  • Kirby'sA
  • FFI
  • Sonic1

I like RPG's, I don't want SSB, and I have Zelda: Collector's Edition.
I'm looking at getting Ys Book I & II

I'd suggest Secret of Mana if you like action RPGs. One of my favorite SNES games. Still the best Mana game to date!

@zezhyrule

I'd say Ys Book 1 and 2 would be a perfect choice, IMO. Just gotta warn ya, the combat's a little weird. You know those Dark Nut enemies in the original Zelda? The ones that you always had to hit from the back in order to hurt? Well, imagine every enemy being kinda like that. I mean, you can hurt them from the front and sides, but the back is always preferable.

I know its not a RPG as such, but I've got a lot of time for Dragon's Curse on the PC Engine / TG16.
A great platformer /action game with slight RPG overtones, world exploration, gold collecting, sword purchasing...

This is an great idea. While your Universal Recommendation is a good idea and should stay up, this will help us choose our Virtual Console games that we want. No more having to make threads for recommendations.

@Mickeymac - Funny, I stopped playing The Legend of Zelda because I couldn't get past a part in a dungeon that had a room full of Darknuts

Thanks everyone, I will probably get Secret of Mana, unless FFIV comes out by the 28th(which I doubt it will)

I guess it was good thing I gave ya that warning.(use bombs on the Dark Nuts, btw. They work wonders)

I guess Secret of Mana would be a good choice, but if you do get it, make sure to read the manual first before playing. They don't explain squat to you in game about items and controls, and some of that stuff can be quite difficult to figure out on your own. Hell, it took me weeks to learn how to save.

woah now, you certainly don't need to attack enemies from behind in Ys.
It's merely a guaranteed way to take no damage - you should be just fine attacking enemies from the side or front with some risk of minimal damage.
Or run at them, then on contact, back off and charge forward again until they're dead. You won't take any damage this way either.

I love platformers. I have all the Mario's of course. What are the can't miss platformers? Oh, I have the Donkey Kong Countries too.

GUN NAC.
It is a little known NES shmup tha is quickly turning into one of my favorites. It's ahead of it's time, rivaling even Blazing Lazers for the TG-16.

For action-platformers (according to wikipedia), Super Metroid and Mega Man 2 are must-haves.

We don't have Gun Nac on the vc, as far as I know. Either you meant to post that in the Retro Recommendation thread(it's somewhere...), or you meant Zanac.

For a great challenge, try one of the Castlevania games.

Starkiller

After getting Water Warfare I'll have 600 points. Possible choices:

  • Startropics
  • Ninja Gaiden 2
  • Final Fantasy (not likely though...)
Of course other reccommendations are welcome.

Starkiller

I liked Ninja Gaiden 1, so I could be getting that.
After watching some gameplay of Water Warfare, I'm getting a little skeptical so... what're the best shmups on VC? I also like most kinds of RPGs. Turn-based, traditional, action.
