Still no release date was mentioned. They gave it a good score. The price was still TBD. It also somehow won an award for Wiiware game of 2009 and it's still not available. This is really getting dumb.

Can you tell us anything of what they said, specifically about differences from the PC original?

The review mostly just mentioned things that are already known. You have the option of original sprites and music or enhanced. Downloadable content that has yet to be revealed and some other surprises but it doesn't really give away much. I find it strange that they talk as if the game is already out but clearly it isn't. What the heck is going on? I guess it could show up on wiiware any week now. Were still waiting Nicalis. What's the problem?

I guess that NP got a early review copy, like they did with Pokemon rumble.

It's not uncommon that a game magazine will have a review before an actual release, especially with D/L games. Game Informer and OXM both occasionally have reviews for XBLA games that haven't yet hit the service at the time the magazine comes out, and i've seen the same with NP and VC releases.

They basically said nothing about it; they easily could have been reviewing the PC version.

Yeah, NP usually just does bullet-style reviews for WiiWare and VC releases. Not tremendously informative beyond saying that it nails the retro goodness, wrapping with the line "Cave Story would easily be worth the investment even if it were a full-priced retail release."

On topic, I think instead of being frustrated, you should be excited and hopeful. Since NP got a review copy of the game, that must mean it is closer to release than ever before. And because NP played the game they received to review in 2009, I guess its not really that big of a deal that they chose it as WiiWare game of the year.

What score? They rate downloadable games as either "recommended," "hmm...," or "grumble grumble." Cave Story got a "recommended" ranking.

Did they say a price for it?

I was just over at their forums and one of the admins said they want to keep it around 1000 points.

They could've just been reviewing the game in advance. Gaming magazines do that sometimes. I doubt it's any sign that it's being released soon. Though I 'spose it could be a possibility...

nintendo's been sitting on the game since november. i really don't know what could hold them up much longer; they probably had other games in the pipeline that they wanted out first over the past 2 months. cave story would overshadow some of the usual shovelware titles so they may be waiting for a clear week. it could very well be this monday or next month, neither way would be surprising. i doubt it'll be longer than a month though....

but hey, check the 'cave story probably coming monday' thread and see how many times we've guessed wrong!
