My Wii is giving me the Disc read error stuff again, which makes this the third time in it's life. I already had to send it in for repairs once when I got Brawl, then again after playing CoD: Black Ops for a couple mounths. Now it's doing it to me again, and I'd like to know if anyone else's Wii has needed this many repairs or if this is normal. If anyone needs any more specific info about my repairs I'll be happy to give it.
(I'm aware that NintendoLife isn't the place to go to get a console repaired, I just wanted people's opinions/thoughts on the matter and if they've had as much trouble as me. Lock the thread if you must)
Only had to send it in twice...first time the disc drive flat out stopped working during Brawl. (should've done something with the Wii making a loud buzzing like noise anyways. >.>) Second time it stopped reading discs 99% of the time during my playthrough of Other M.
The last itme it did this was around Februray/March of last year, which was when Black Ops broke it. At first it wouldn't read most games, but some could still be read(like Kirby's Epic Yarn) but after a day or so, it stopped reading everything. I don't even think Gamecube games worked anymore.
@Tasuki: I don't think I'm doing anything out of the ordinary. I don't have Homebrew or any other such things on my Wii, I just use it's regular functions (Playing Wii games, Gamecube games, virtual console, internet channel, nothing weird or anything, just normal stuff).
@MegaStoneSmash: Does it get good airflow where you have it? Is it near a heat source? Do you play it for hours on end? I am not saying you abuse your system I am just trying to figure out why the heck you would need to send it in so many times.

Well, I do tend to play it for extended periods of time quite a bit. I'm not sure about air flow, I have it sitting right in between my NES and N64, but I wouldn't call that cramped. It's on the top shelf and not next to a heat source, and there's nothing above it.
Is there a risk for my Wii too break??? I have been playing Zelda SS 3-7 hours a day in 2 weeks until i finished it(Finished it on friday)
Wii U online games:
Injustice Gods Among Us, Ninja Gaiden 3: Razors Edge, Assassin's Creed III, Tekken Tag Team Tournament 2 Wii U Edition and Trine 2: Directors Cut
3DS Online games:
Kid Icarus: Uprising
Tell me if you want to play :)
the disc read error for brawl is just because the laser was dirty, so you buy one of those $10 cleaners Nintendo sold and it would fix that easy. at least that's what i did.

I, too, have been playing Skyward Sword a lot, also I recently started playing Brawl again. Other than that I've been playing MW3 Wii game wise. Maybe it's just too many dual-layer or high disc-read rate games? I have no idea, I just hope this doesn't have anything to do with the fact that I play it often, because that doesn't seem right.
My old Wii that i got in 2007(wich i sold) just froze 2 summers ago while playing brawl and after that only Zelda TP and GCN games worked on it. Later on Only the GCN games and at last nothing! Why does brawl break many Wiis???

mine broke once when the disk drive went bad, first it stopped playing GC discs, then discs altogether, mine was out of warranty, so I tried looking at it myself, and was unable to come up with a solution, so for my birthday my dad sent it to a 3d party repair company (can't remember the name though, although I'd remember if I heard it), and they did a fine job of fixing it
As of right now, my Wii still plays Gamecube games just fine. I tried a few Wii games, but couldn't make it past the Wii Menu intro for each game. After I hit start, the Wrist strap precautions screen showed up on some of the games just fine, but after that faded there was no hope. Also, the Wii appears to be producing all sorts of unusual sounds, like it's struggling and giving up on reading the disc entirely. In addition, there's a lot of soft clicking sounds that fade as the Wii "gives up" and doesn't read the disc. I noticed these sounds last time I had it repaired, so it's not anything new I suppose. Still worth mentioning, just in case.
I'd also like to know a few things considering the Wii's backwards compatibility:
1. Is the laser lens it uses to read Wii games also the one that reads Gamecube games? Does it have two separate ones or one dual-purpose lens? 2. If there is only one, why can it still read Gamecube discs but not Wii discs? 3. Do Gamecube games put less overall stress on the console than Wii games? That is, is it easier for it to play a Gamecube disc over a Wii disc?
My Wii was getting the, Error has occurred please eject disc and turn off power, message. Would this be the disc drive failing? It also makes the noises that Mega Stone explained above.
Update: I did some more testing yesterday, and Gamecube games still work just fine. When I tried some more Wii games, I actually heard some new noises. One game I tried actually caused the system to make a sound that almost sounded like whistling or a very light breeze. Another one even made no sound at all when I put it in, like the Wii didn't even try reading it. On another note, I also tried CoD: World at War which worked perfectly. It also was the only game I could consistantly get working last time the system needed repairs. This leads me to conclude that Gamecube games and WAW put less stress on the laser lens than other Wii discs. Maybe it has something to do with Dual-layered discs or just discs that require heavy use of the laser lens? Any input anyone might have on the matter would be apprieciated.
