earlier this year new dsi owners got 1000 points for free. and also are going to sell dsi's with pre-loaded dsiware on black friday. do you think if they did these same things with wii could it increase future sales?
This is ground control to major Tom, you've really made the grade. And the papers want to know whose shirts you wear
Now it's time to leave the capsule if you dare
I think that would be a great idea. Wii owners who have the 1000 points could download a couple nes games or one snes or n64 game. It would be like recieving the free wii sports thing that came with the Wii... only better. I really do think that it would improve sales.
sorry for the long title but i think preloading world of goo on a new shiney black wii would be nice

I don't see why anyone is assuming it "worked" with the DSi. There's no evidence that people were convinced to buy the DSi because of the preloaded points. Also, one of the DSi's primary distinguishing features from previous models is the ability to download software, so this was a good way to highlight that. The Shop Channel is a much more secondary feature on the Wii. Most people don't buy a Wii for downloadable games, though I must say that I did.
I'm not saying it's a bad idea either, though. If Nintendo really wants to get users to notice the shop channel, I think a better route might be to preload Wiis with demos. It'd cost Nintendo nothing, and it would pique the interest of the otherwise oblivious new Wii owner. Or just insert a pamphlet in Wii boxes showcasing VC and WW games with quick instructions for getting online, if they don't do that already.
I think NoA just needs to start promoting WiiWare period. Most people who own a Wii don't even know it can connect to the Internet, do you think the "blue ocean" market would prefer retail games or much cheaper games they can get from the comfort of their own home?
Just promote online Nintendo, buy some commercial ad space, magazine ads promoting WiiWare with a couple of key games like World of Goo and the FF games. I mean I don't understand why they don't, they make money off Wiiware games sold.
Also they NEED to bring the ambassador promotion over the the US and Canada... It's cheap and a VERY effective way at getting people connected without having to spend big ad bucks.

[anomalous[i know spelled wrong] member] so feenie bet you never got lucky in chat [feenie] ya [tbd] green gabe [feenie] yup i almost drowned in the shower afterwards
Isn't there already the Ambassador program? If you help someone connect to the internet you and they get 500 points.. basically 500 points. Then you have that video they now put on new Wii's telling you what you can do with your Wii if you connect it online. We even have demos of WiiWare games now.
I think they are doing a lot to help Wii Shop sales. Maybe not "enough" but they are certainty doing a lot or at least a lot more than they were.

How about NSMB Wii pack-in. That would sell insanely. Nostalgia would overcome so many people. I would buy another Wii. Its been a long time since a 2D Mario game was packed in to a console.

Another good idea. Just package it with a limited edition red Wii and there you go.
