Topic: In a perfect world... SEGA would make its own VC only console

You think SEGA would make a very cheap console with a hard drive just to have its huge back library of games on...
It could be all regions of games from Dreamcast , Saturn, SegaCD, 32x, Mega Drive , Master System , Mark 1000, Game Gear, Arcade..
Like sega channel pay a monthly fee for unlimited game play or just buy and download the games you want
And just watch their profits go through the roof

I may be crazy but Wii U has been out for over two years now and its VC section still stinks and I don't see it getting any better

Jarvis- Yes, that will help you keep a low profile...

Yes, that is crazy....

But boy would it make SEGA money! Especially if it was a portable!

Personally, I'd like to see Nintendo do a similar thing. A VC-only console, cheap and with a huge backlog. It could have Miiverse support, too

I will update this when Half Life 3 arrives. [Started 17/11/2015]

i would probably get it just for the dreamcast games, cause i never had a dreamcast.

Dreamcast is fun,, but its fan really makes a lot of crappy sounds

The problem with anything pre-Saturn or Dreamcast, is that Sega has sold those games for pennies on the dollar already, making it hard to justify a sustainable price point for a standalone console. The other day you could get 50 games on steam for like $6. I got the Sonic Ultimate Genesis Collection for $10 on amazon. I think it would probably be doomed to failure and they stand to make more money by doing steam sales and remastering dreamcast games.

It would be worth it for the Arcade games alone. Still hoping Wii U VC will add Sega Systems, they could at least transfer the Wii content. Still play Sega Rally & Outrun on my Saturn

It may make money in the short run, but it may not be a lasting money-maker

If I remember right, when M2 did the 3D Genesis games, they had to functionally create an entire console virtually that they called the "Giga Drive". I can't remember who, but one of the designers of the OS mentioned how they could essentially take the code and manufacture a physical device that would have 3D support as well.

It's a terrible idea. Those who like retro consoles, would rather buy the real thing. The VC on the Wii reported huge losses despite its popularity, that's the reason the WiiU one sucks. There are both official and pirate retro consoles with roms and/or emulators (like the Retron Consoles) which could be a better option for those who won't or can't go the extra mile and buy the real stuff.
Sega struggles to stay afloat, a project that has been proven to have modest (if any) revenues would jeopardize them instead of helping them.
You would need a rather powerful machine to emulate everything Sega, even an average PC these days has problems with the DC. Such a console would cost the same as a current gen one. Those who would spent for a new console in NA are looking for online sports and FPS, in Japan they look for RPG and Visual Novels. In Asia they rather rent PC for MMORPG and who knows what people play in Europe (but I'm pretty sure is not retro). The market for such a crazy console is almost inexistent. This idea is not crazy, is suicidal.
Enjoy the few stuff you can get, it's almost a miracle we do have it.

Sony has started to offer a similar service, will you pay a monthly fee to get PS 1 through 4 games in existent hardware or will you buy expensive hardware to pay a monthly fee to play games older than those of Sony? I don't think so.

Sega Channel... I curse thy name. Because of it we couldn't get Pulseman, Megaman Willy Wars and Alien Soldier and to make things worse, they are scarce in Japan. Rot in hell Sega Channel!!

I sure wouldn't be buying this system. It's not for me. Right now on Steam, I can buy - not rent - practically every single good non-Sonic Genesis/MD game (there's around 45) for like $20. Throw in the good Sonic games and it's about $30.
They also have Space Channel 5, Jet Set Radio, and both Sonic Adventures for less than $5 each.
Sega should release MD VC on 3DS and Dreamcast VC on Wii U. There's a huge untapped market there.

Maybe you're talking about the Saturn? DC games run fine on phones, of all things. Even a PS4 would have trouble running a Saturn Emulator due to how stupidly complex that system's architecture was.

Both are quite a pain, the SS for the hardware with all those separate processors and the DC for its power and features, although there have been quite a few improvements in DC emulation, its still far from flawless. You're right, I should had mentioned the Saturn too.

Why would this be perfect? Why would I want yet another piece of hardware under my TV that does what could easily be done on any of my existing hardware?

So Anakin kneels before Monster Mash and pledges his loyalty to the graveyard smash.

In a perfect world Sega wouldn't be doing such a nonsense. In a perfect world Sega wouldn't have allowed Sonic Boom to exist and most people would be buying Nintendo consoles.

Wii U for eshop and GBA games, and Wii for all VC games. We need to take the best of our systems. The only perfect is the 3DS with all DSiware available in eshop.

I'd rather not have several old consoles attached to my TV. I'm a big fan of emulated games and collection discs on modern consoles.

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!
