IGN has lost too much credibility to be believed. There probably is something, since Nintendo like giving players rewards for finishing -- but I'll wait for confirmation from other sources.

The original reward for completing the game (with Mario or Luigi) was a Wii message saying that you beat the game completely and helped all the toad people. So I'm not very hopeful for any replay value in this "Reward".

It wasn't really IGN.com that said it on-site, it was what Craig Harris said on his Twitter account.
I doubt anyone from IGN even bothers playing Wii games before reviewing them!

Dudes: just got word of the reward at the end of Mario Galaxy 2.
Evidently, if you finish with all 120 stars, all of the Goombas are replaced by Corbie, and instead of jumping on them, you have to challenge each one to a shmup high score competition.
