Err, on topic post. Thanks for the list of JRPGs on the Wii mickeymac! It looks like I have pretty much all of the RPGs I want on the Wii, then. Just gotta keep an ear to the ground in case Opoona emerges from the depths of the earth someplace.
At least there's Xenoblade and The Last Story to look forward to.
More like laughable standards. Grandia 3 and Suikoden 5 were pretty poor, especially in light of some of the previous games in the series. At least Suiko 5 was something of a return to form for the series.
Maybe it's due to the fact that it followed Suikoden IV, which IS poor, but I really enjoyed SV. It's no Suikoden II or III but it's certainly not 'poor'...IMO
Anyways, I suppose I should stop assisting in the continuing derailment of this thread. I just tend to digress when it comes to JRPGs >_>
EDIT: You can still get Opoona for a decent price on Amazon and many GameStops around me still have used copies for about $10.
Hey does anyone know when Enclave is coming out for the Wii? It was supposed to be released this year but got delayed for some reason. It's probably one of the only OG Xbox WRPG I missed so I waiting to pick it up. EDIT: Oh wow, I missed the J in the title(despite having already posted here), sorry for the slight derail.

Yeah, I quite liked Suikoden V. It just felt like it was mostly retreading Suikoden II. I liked the story's focus on politics though, but it wasn't enough to make it a great game, especially comparing it to Suiko I and II (and the games mickeymac mentioned).
And apparently some people really enjoyed Suiko IV. I've never played it, but the story sounds intriguing. The Rune of Punishment is pretty cool and original. Somehow I think I got maximum enjoyment out of it by just reading about it though...
@Oregano I don't know anything about Enclave, but I swore there was a thread for it somewhere around these parts...
I've given up on Tales of Graces, but I am really looking forward to Xenoblade/Monado and The Last Story. Muramasa and Arc Rise Fantasia are fun, but they're kind of lacking...
I can't find any good lists. I dunno what happened, but most of the sites I frequent don't let you search by genre anymore, or they just don't list everything - some sites seem to think the Wii only has 200 or so games (looking at you, Gamespot. I hate that site so very, very much!) I think I found something on Amazon, but ii's still missing quite a few. I'll post it anyways and see if I can think of/find some others.
EDIT:
It's out of date by about...a couple months, but here it goes:
On the List:
Fragile: Farewell Ruins of the Moon Monster Hunter Tri Arc Rise Fantasia Final Fantasy Chrystal Chronicles: Crystal Bearers Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World Opoona Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and Tower of Mirrors Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo's Dungeon Baroque Super Paper Mario Dokapon Kingdom Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn Little King's Story Muramasa: The Demon Blade Rune Factory: Frontier Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time Phantom Brave: We Meet Again

As stated by zoipi earlier on in the thread, tales of graces is getting a fan translation. I am also looking forward to xenoblade and last story. They look awesome.

A fan translation is not the same as a legit release.

Personally I'd just settle for a GameFAQ Translation and a Kanji dictionary.
I've never played Rune Factory but love RPGs. Is Rune Factory like an RPG or is it totally different? Looking over this thread it doesn't seem like the Wii has any "great" RPGs.
@MERG: Rune Factory Frontier has "RPG elements" but it is completely action based (no turns). I played the wheels off of it...absolutely loved it. The only warning I'd give is about the "runey system", which drastically affects the growth of your crops. If you ignore the runey system, your crops will basically stop growing after the first year. Incredibly, the game manual doesn't tell you how the system works. It leaves it to you to figure out yourself. I'd say there is about a 1% chance (maybe less) that any given person can figure it out for themselves. I tried and failed. My biggest mistake was I "stupidly" assumed the solution would be self-sustaining. Ha ha ha! What a moron I am! The solution is completely unsustainable and requires ongoing maintenance for as long as you play the game.
I know that sounds mighty negative but I still loved the game! I recommend reading the pinned (stickied) threads and FAQs on GameFAQs about the runey system and deciding for yourself.
Rune Factory isn't close to an RPG. It's Harvest Moon, with fighting.
And for the record, turn-based gameplay is not a defining characteristic of an RPG. Nothing frustrates me more than people misunderstanding what an RPG is meant to be. Though I do understand it from the Nintendo fan's point of view. Nintendo consoles haven't been graced with any great quantity or quality of RPG releases since the SNES days.

this. also, how would u define an RPG, or what would you say are their defining characteristics? I'm just curious, it seems to be a big point of debate.

It's hard to define it but the best I can come with is "game that has battles where stats are a significant part of winning and there are actual transitions before/after battle".
Phantasy Star Online is the only RPG I know of that doesn't fit into that definition.
Using the phrase "has RPG-like elements' makes defining certain "maybe RPGs" a lot easier.
