I mean a game that had battery back up to save game data. I never have known of one to quit working but I suppose they would eventually. My original Zelda cartridge still saves and It's a freaking fossil. It must take forever for the batteries to actually die. Good thing we have VC in case it ever happens.

yep. I have a copy of Super Mario World that died -- I'd have to leave the SNES on if I wanted to complete a game over multiple sessions. this was years before the Wii hit, though... thank goodness for the VC, because i love the hell outta SMW :3

They must be the longest lasting batteries in existence. I wonder if they drain faster based on how many times you made a save file?

Those batteries might just last longer than the actual Virtual Console service
My Zelda 2 batteries stopped working a long time ago. After that i exchanged the cartridge to "Sword Master". Zelda 2 was better even without working batteries...
I've never had a cartridge battery die on me, personally, but I did buy a copy of Pokemon Snap online that ended up having a non-working save battery. Luckily I can still complete that game in just a few hours, but it's still annoying.
The batteries of two of my favorite Gameboy games - Donkey Kong '94 and Super Mario Land 2 - died a year ago. The worst part is that it made them completely glitchy; Super Mario Land 2 has random sprite glitches and freezes and Donkey Kong '94 screws up at the save file screen. I can still play the game but some events like moving ladders, high voltage cables and switches don't work anymore. It's really crazy.
Also the battery of my Pokémon Silver Version died. Oddly enough the battery of my Pokémon Gold Version, where I caught all 249 (no Mew or Celebi) without cheats still works.

Miraculously, no. Super Mario World (which one of my cousins loaned to me), Donkey Kong Country, Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble, and Super Mario All-Stars never had the battery die, and one of my older cousins (who loaned those games to me with his SNES console in December 29th of 2008) has had them for as long as I remember. Perhaps it's because I keep playing with this those games. The SNES games that I ordered on eBay that included saved data [Ys III: Wanderers from Ys, Arcana, SoulBlazer, Brain Lord, Illusion of Gaia, Equinox: Solstice II] work perfectly fine.
Nope. But that's because I don't own any carts with batteries (Unless Original GB and GBA Carts use batteries for saving, in which I am wrong).
I'm pretty okay.

I am amazed my original Zelda and Zelda II carts still save fine. The only cart battery i've had die on me thus far is is one of batteries in my GBA flash cart (it has two), so it will keep games written to the cart, but not keep game save-states.
