@Sean Aaron/WaltzElf..... both your guys made really good points, I think this is a Big Deal for Nintendo and is proof that Nintendo has Indeed had their hardcore/core base turning away from the company wich isn't good for Nintendo at all. Casual markets are the same as fashion clothes, they come and go. When Nintendos next console releases, we will really see the effects of all of this. It may not have a negative effect, and hopefully not, but the hardcore games failing and running off the Gaming Giant EA is not good at all. I will be VERY skeptical of buying Nintendos next home console. How long will the casual crush last? If SEGA really jumps on board the Casual Gaming market with a new system are these New Gamers now Loyal Nintendo gamers or will they see SEGAs new console the next new thing? Nintendo very well could be looking at darker times, by jumping fully on the casual train like they did has made them more money than they have ever seen but, what if it doesn't last and then they go back to the hardcore and they dont come back? It could happen.

It certainly could; right now I have no interest in another console, even if it's from Nintendo as much as I enjoy the Wii. From the comments being dropped Nintendo looks to be emphasing the physical interaction mechanics over visual fidelity to change the gaming experience to try to keep it fresh. I'm sure they're well aware of the pitfalls of the expanded market, but shrinking world economies are probably more of a real threat to not only Nintendo but all makers of electronics and unnecessary entertainment items.
@Sean Aaron.....yep and that is exactly why the Wii and NSMB Wii were still sitting full on shelves today, the busiest day of the year for Retail Sales. They Wii wasn't being sold with extras and NSMBWii wasn't being sold at a sale price. CoD MW2 was full at Target as well, getting passed up to sale price game, some New Releases. Its clear from what I saw and heard today from Moms/Dads, they bought PS3 "Because it has games that come with it, and the BluRays are on sale for like $10 here too". Its was making sales, and I saw it.

It's not as if the Wii will suddenly be left with no new titles. If this is what EA needs to find itself back in the black, I hope they succeed. There are lots of people who rely on EA to put food on their table, so I won't begrudge them their business decisions. It's a pity, especially as I sat here tonight playing Spore: Hero, and was enjoying it immensely.
What this will do, hopefully, is leave a niche for some other developer to come in and create a quality game. If EA was only going to create half-hearted ports to the Wii, we can save our money and support those new developers.

Which is why, though I could be wrong, we won't be seeing a new generation of consoles anytime soon. I think the Wii/PS3/XBOX360 will all exceed the 10 year lifespan that the PS2 is going to see.
I could be wrong, but I think we'll see more of a move into peripherals that enhance the current systems rather than replace them.

@Thomas Joseph..... actually EA Montreal didn't make poor ports of HD games they actually reinvented them to fit the Wii better because the Wii isn't able to run the games they make on other systems. They actually made the games the best they could for the system and I applaud them for that.

slapshot82: Yeah, I guess I wasn't clear enough. What I meant was that if the alternative was EA Montreal staying on with the Wii but cutting back on their quality, we're better off without it (at least in my opinion). I really have enjoyed playing Spore: Hero though to be honest, looking at their remaining catalog of games, I don't think we're really going to see that much of a drop-off.
