I've been wondering about this for a while now. I saw that when the new Super Smash Bros comes out, Nintendo is selling adapters to allow Gamecube controllers to be used on the Wii U. Is there a snowball's chance that Nintendo will start showing the ol' Cube some love?
A new adventure, another day. One more challenge that comes our way.

GameCube VC and Nintendo 64 VC shoulda arrived ages ago for Wii U. And if Nintendo was smart... they woulda shown N64 VC and GameCube VC at the Digital Event. Eventually one day they will come but not anytime soon.
Possibly but nothing confirmed. I would love to be able to replace my GameCube collection. I don't have a GameCube or Wii so my games are just sitting there
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

They already generated a lot of hype. Announcing these at the Digital Event would not have been great. They should announce these in September

I don't get how they didn't have this available sooner, but better late than never (never late would have been better).

I feel like first we'll have to go through some N64 & DS titles first on the VC, maybe near the end of this year(?) and then I feel they'll start talking about Gamecube VC early next year.
Maybe they will, if only to make use of the adaptor for more than one game. I doubt many more new games will use it, since developers probably find it annoying to design for the gamepad, wii remote, and pro controller. Doubt they wanna start needing to incorporate the gamecube controller. So a GCVC seems like the best course of action
I can't believe I haven't thought of this. It makes a lot of sense. Unfortunately, Nintendo doesn't exactly have a stellar track record of making sense with VC, especially as of late. Fingers crossed though I wouldn't hold my breath.
Feel free to add me on the Nintendo Network: ShadJV
Here's my 3DS FC, always looking for Pokemon X Friend Safaris: 2191-7643-5167
Peace!
Whilst it makes sense, I don't think it'll happen. It would require you to buy the adapter + GC controller in order to play the GC games on the VC. If anything, these VC are just a quick and easy way to distribute older games. I don't see them forcing an adapter + controller on people just to play VC games.

You had to buy a classic controller for VC games on the Wii (unless you had a GC controller). How is this any different?
Also, Pro Controller will work with most GCN titles.
Formally called brewsky before becoming the lovable, adorable Yoshi.
Now playing:
Final Fantasy XIV (PC) | The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (Switch) | Celeste (Switch)
@Chrono_Cross
No, you only need a classic controller/GC controller for SNES and N64 games.
For all another games you can use the wiimote or classic or GC controllers (even Genesis can be used only with wiimote)
Me gusta jugar videojuegos. Soy de México. Sorry my english grammar. I love the Virtual Console, party and fighting games too.

I never used the VC, so I wouldn't know. Still think it's little weird though.. I'm sure they could've made them playable with the Wii Remote as well if they wanted to.

We can only hope, it's the only ray of hope for me at the moment
Rimmer: "Look, I think we've all got something to bring to this conversation, but I think that from now on the thing you should bring is silence."
Homer: "Oh people can come up with statistics to prove anything Kent. Forfty percent of all people know that."
It's more likely that there'll be more GameCube HD remakes, and that they will be compatible with the GCN controller adapter. Oh and also a Wind Waker HD Patch for GameCube Adapter will come out.
"I'll take a potato chip... AND EAT IT!"
Light Yagami, Death Note
"Ah, the Breakfast Club soundtrack! I can't wait 'til I'm old enough to feel ways about stuff!"

Not for NES games.
I wouldn't know about TG16, but you needed a VC controller for SNES, Genesis, and N64 titles.
Classic controller wasn't required for "Genesis". I bought Sonic 1 on the Wii VC and i can use just a wii remote fine.
Well, that might depend on the game. The Genesis controller has three buttons, (There's also an optional controller for some games with six buttons) so if a game uses all three buttons, you'd probably need a classic controller. (Unless they just let you use "B", but that would be really annoying.)
@mystman12 The Wii remote mapping for Genesis games is A→A, B→1, and C→2. So while any Genesis game that used the original three-button controller (all of them?) is compatible with a Wii remote, this makes certain games really inconvenient to play. (If A is just used as a select button or an extra C button, the game would be fine, but it would be difficult if A is an action button.)
Anyway, what were we talking about? Alright, it would make sense but I'm guessing it won't happen. Though GBA games eventually got put on something, so who knows⁇
