My 7 yr old boy has loved playing with a Wii over the last few years and so we upgraded to a Wii U at Christmas. I only set it up late today so haven't had much of a play but like what we've seen. On the old Wii he had created a number of Miis (mostly of friends and family just for fun) but including his own which he used when playing games. He obviously wants to transfer those Miis across to the Wii U, as well as various game saves. I have the instructions to do this ... however, I'm very confused.
As part of the set up process on the Wii U we had to create a user so he did that for himself but using his name and initial to differentiate it from his old Mii. I assume to do the transfer I should then get a Network ID attached to that new user for him?
BUT, if we do the import, doesn't that mean he will essentially have created two characters for himself - his "user" and his old Mii? Since he will want to play as his old Mii as that is attached to his game saves. how will that work? Do we have to delete the new user create on the Wii U and substitute the old Mii we imported, or are they different things and the Miis "sit behind" the user (and he can select which Mii each time he plays)?
I do hope that makes sense. I would be do grateful for any help.
@paulsmithy: A Wii U user is very different to a Mii. A Mii is basically just a skin that represents a player. A Wii U user is more of a "full" representation of a person, where the Mii skin appearance is just one of the attributes. Many Wii U games have separate save files for each different Wii U user, while the Wii save files are global.
The Wii mode is totally separate from the Wii U. The Wii games runs in its own "box", and the old Miis will still be available when playing the old Wii games.
If a person would play online in Wii U games (such as Mario Kart 8, Splatoon, etc) a Nintendo Network ID is required. A NNID is also required for accessing the eShop.
