Usually yes, you wear a costume to look like someone or something else.

Have you heard of Halloween?

No. People don't want characters to dress up as other characters, they want them to turn INTO the characters from what I've been reading.

I am fine with Peach dressing as Daisy

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

He's the most iconic Pokemon after Pikachu. The 1st generation does have a near monopoly on these significant Pokemon, but that's to be expected.

too bad we got frogger instead

"Frogger" ftw. Mewtwo is overrated IMO, but if he is in, I would still use him, as a sandbag replacement.
Seriously though, he IS overrated.

Who cares how strong or weak a character is? Those traits can be changed. The importance of the character cannot. Mewtwo is far more important than frogger.

Why is he more important than Greninja? Because nostalgia? And if he IS that important, why wasn't he in Brawl?

So, anyone else notice a pattern with the missing characters?

As of right now there are exactly 13 characters from Super Smash Bros Brawl that haven't been announced as playable in Super Smash Bros for the Wii U or 3DS.

Of those 13, 4 are characters I would consider not likely to return, these being Falco (clone), Snake (third party, depends on Konami), Ivysaur (Charizard is in this alone), and Squirtle (same reason as Ivysaur).

If you don't include those characters, there are 9 left. 5 of these are characters I would consider "retro" characters, being Ice Climbers (1985), ROB (1985), Jigglypuff (Hasn't been important since Red/Blue), Ness (1994/1995), and Lucas (2006, but never released outside of Japan).

Finally, there are 4 left, being Wario, Ganondorf, Meta Knight, and Wolf. Throw in Mewtwo from Melee (the only unique character from Melee not included in Brawl) and that makes exactly 5 villains.

So the point here is that there are 10 veteran characters left to be announced. 5 villains, and 5 retro characters. Am I the only one thinking that these seem likely to become expansions of some sort? Just something I noticed...

Highly doubt it. Does Wario even count as a villain? He reps his own franchise. He's not really a villain in WarioWare as far as I'm concerned. Plus there's not really anything pointing to Falco being cut. Not really anything pointing towards his inclusion either though, so we'll have to wait and see on that one. As far as Mewtwo goes, I don't think he's really a villain. Though I get why people would consider him as such given his role in the first movie.

Mewtwo is not a villain in the games either. Only in one movie of the anime.

Edit: oh ^ already said it...

Meta Knight has never been a villain in a Kirby game. Everytime you end up fighting him it's either because he's being controlled by an outside force, or he's trying to stop Kirby from causing more damage with his actions(Kirby's Adventure, Kirby Squeak Squad). Even his role in Revenge of Meta Knight implies he's trying to help Dream Land, even if he methods are extreme.

Wario has not been a villain since Wario's Woods. In fact, he's only been the villain in three games(Super Mario Land 2, Mario & Wario, and Wario's Woods)

As for Wolf, he stopped being a villain after Star Fox 64. Every time he shows up in a Star Fox game after 64, he makes some excuse over how only he can kill Fox, and then becomes an ally. He's more of a rival than a villain.

Mewtwo really is not a villain either. He's not responsible for any of the actions of the teams in the Pokemon games, and you normally confront him in a cave where he's hidden himself. As for his role in the first Pokemon movie, that was more out of anger with how he was treated by Team Rocket than anything else. He changed his attitude by the end of the movie.

So, the only real villain we've had in Smash in Ganondorf and Bowser. That's why I'm hoping Ridley and King K. Rool make the cut and join the roster. They were add some much needed villains to the roster.

"Would you rather have Sonic with a black fursuit instead of making him simply transform into Shadow?"

Those are both bad ideas. I rather have Shadow playable.

"The fact that Lucina started off as a costume/alt appearance of Marth should hint to you that Sakurai is very open to add different characters that would play the same as "costumes" for other characters."

Bad example. Lucina is VERY similar to Marth. In fact, she pretended to be Marth in FE:A and was called "Marth" through out the game. Lucina and Marth are very similar to each other, that's why she was considered as an alt. And the fact we haven't seen any "blah blah turns into completely different character" skins proves that Sakurai isn't so unsure about the idea. Also, I'm pretty sure I heard Sakurai state that he didn't like the idea. (I forget where, though)

Smash Mains:
N64: Captain Falcon
Melee: Mario
Brawl: Sonic
Project M: Link
Smash 3DS: Captain Falcon
Smash Wii U: Ganondorf

Lucina is to Marth as Shadow is to Sonic. "Different" characters with the exact same body form as powers.

The only big difference in their case is the color of their fur (and their running animation). In fact, Lucina is more unique in relation to Marth than Shadow is to Sonic.

What.

Sonic no has gun, or hover boots, or Chaos Control, or somber Mewtwo backstory, or...or...boo. Boo you. Unless you are talking about Lucina in Awakening, not Smash similarities, in which you might have an argument.

Yeah I mean in their origin games.

Sonic is pretty able to do chaos control in SA2, if I remember correctly.

WTF, that's some strange logic. It doesn't matter if Meta Knight was "controlled by an outside force" he still stood in the way and attempted to kill the hero (Kirby) on numerous occasions. Wario is most definitely a villain. He is also shown villainous intent in the Mario Tennis games and WarioWare games, where he tries to scam people constantly. He's a villain in Subspace Emissary! Wolf is also a Villain, he is on the same team as Pigma, the guy who killed Fox' father for crying out loud! Finally, Mewtwo does not get a get out of jail free card because he lashed out in anger! He killed a lot of people, and was planning on killing more if the Ash hadn't saved the day by SACRIFICING HIS LIFE.

I would normally use the "But the anime is not canon" magic card, but it's too obvious that almost all the pokemon in Smash (except for those that the Pokemon Trainer had, and even then ash has had 2 out of those three) are supposed to be tie ins with the anime and not the games.

@The_Ninja he WAS planned in brawl but cut due to time restraints. In fact, he had his own victory theme.

He's more important because he starred in multiple movies, was the first real legendary pokemon, was the first mega-evo and first mega evo with multiple forms, has been on a lot of merchandise, is featured as a boss in multiple pokemon spinoffs (pinball), is one of the most recognizable pokemon, has a HUGE story behind him, was a unique fighter, I'm going to stop here because you get the point.

I think you're just being kind of butthurt at this point. The current gen of Pokemon has always been represented with which ever entry in smash is out at the time. So for all we know it was an obligation to include something from Kalos. At least Sakurai got lucky and picked the most popular starter of gen 6 instead of something like…Delphox, idk.

I don't know why sakurai keeps doing this though. Just because they're in the current gen doesn't mean they're as popular as others. Meowth, eevee, victini, and plusle/minuin off the top of my head deserve a spot over frogger. Pokemon that represent different aspects of the game should be represented. Meowth represents the villains, eevee represents evolutions, plusle/minuin represents multibattles, and victini represents special events.
