I can't wait to see what this thing can do. Oh, and I also just read Crytek will be supporting Wii U. So glad to see Nintendo getting 3rd party developers back.
Yes, and there are actually other stories breaking today that say the exact opposite. This article is written off of speculation and not facts, but one thing to remember here is that it will take extra power to stream from the console to the controller, so the extra power will likely be consumed there.

Should indeed be more powerful than PS3. But I'm holding off on official word from Nintendo not from people who say "on par with 360" or "More powerful than 360/PS3" because frankly, nothing is official yet.
PS4 will probably be 100% more powerful than a PS3.
That's the only thing I'm worried about. When PS4 and 720 release, how much powerful will they be over their predecessors? I hope Nintendo makes it more powerful than 50% over PS3. And the report is not real specific. I'm not sure if they're talking more powerful in CPU power, GPU power etc.
There's plenty of time from now till next year so anything can change. If you really want this console to be more powerful than 360/PS3, be prepared to pay a good price. The PS4 and 720 is going to have to more than "OMG, NEXT NEXT GEN GRAFIX" to get me interested.
My reaction to Nintendo sporting HD... I've never really cared that much about HD. Never have and probably never will. It's cool and all. To me, the whole "It's HD!" thing has been covered up with Smash Bros. and the controller
When Nintendo said "It has to be more than just HD", they really meant it.
Haha, it's all about the games. But good games (especially Nintendo's first party games) with good graphics, can't beat that. Watching Wii games played on Dolphin is so cool. I hope Nintendo releases HD classic games for Wii U like Sony does for the PS3. I think the core fans would flock to get their hands on them, I know I'd be one of them

As I said before, the Wii U has been 'confirmed' to be more powerful than the PS360, and 'confirmed' to only be as powerful.

Moving to Wii U, it's been confirmed that it only on par with the 360 in power
Ok, Slapshot, thanks for confirming that. Now there is no need for discussion.
looks at thread title
Now hang on just a console-gaming minute here... IT'S A PARADOX!
PS3 and 360 are about equal, the Wii U is both 50% more powerful than a PS3, but only as powerful as a 360. plays Twilight Zone music
Nobody knows people. I don't know why people are confirming this, and confirming that. Until you hear it from the horses mouth, from one of the big dogs, it's just a red herring.
Sorry for quoting you from another thread, Slapshot, but why are peeps so quick to start using the c word?
It's not confirmed, until it's, well... confirmed. Rumor is not conformation.
My own speculation is that Nintendo will know, if they are going after the hardcore, young, graphically obsessed, male gamer, that power counts. If they announce it to be the most powerful console on the market, those sorts of people will buy. Announcing it to be only as powerful as consoles that are several years old, doesn't have the same effect.
Meh the differences between the graphics of the PS3/360are extremely minor especially to the average consumer. So even if this was true it shouldn't turn anybody off the Wii U.

@AirCop Haha, no biggie. I wouldn't get too excited for all of this hype. If it's truly more powerful than the PS3, then the price is going to be sky high, and that isn't something Nintendo is going to do. Even if it is '50% more powerful' then guess what? Your going to see the exact same third party games on the system as whats on the others. Because the PS3 has more power than the 360, and the games are the exact same!
.... and what happened to our loyal Nintendo fans who didn't like high priced systems and HD graphics? What was all that rage about the PSP Go being too expensive of a handheld (same as 3DS), and 'Nintendo doesn't ever need to have a system like the PS3', 'I hate those other system and all their HD graphics, that isn't what makes games good'?

I am right here I didnt go anywhere.
I cant even think of spending more than $300 for a system. Which is one reason I got the Wii before the Xbox 360 or the PS3. Truthfully HD graphics dont really mean much to me but than again I dont even have an HDTV

I'm going to miss those days now I guess!
Well, I agree it doesn't really matter.
The PS3 and the 360 are pretty much the same, in the way the Mega Drive and SNES were. One might have had slightly more of this, or be able to do that a bit better, but looking back, they were both 16bit consoles, roughly capable of the same thing.
Like I say, 'IT'S GOT THE MOREST POWAH' is a much better headline than 'it's as powerful as those systems you got 3 years ago', especially if you are trying to sell it to people wearing baseball caps, who call each other dude.
Personally, the price isn't my major concern - this console will have the next generation of Mario, Zelda, and Metroid, so it will always have my interest. I'd prefer a return to the SNES days, when Nintendo said 'we make the best games, our systems have the best graphics, and that's that'.
Compromises are boring - yes, gameplay is more important than graphics, but I'd prefer to pay a bit more, and have both.

The question is, if the PS3 can create almost-lifelike graphics, and the Wii U is at least somewhat more powerful than the PS3, and the Wii U hasn't yet reached it's full potential in graphics, and the PS3 almost has, what comes next? Can video games truly look better than real life? Is there a limit to how good games can look? And if there isn't, do we even care?! Lots of questions to be answered in the future.
