Greetings, i am new here but i visited the site every now and then over the years and i would also like to find people to play online with.

I realize i am kind of in the last minute here but what should i buy for Wii U and 3DS eshops and virtual consoles?

I decided to try to buy mostly games which are not available on the Switch Online membership so for example i was thinking about buying yoshi´s story but since it is on the subscription service, i might not get it.

So i want to mainly buy games which are not available legally anywhere else as new games (and are expensive to get as pre owned cartridges)

So far i bought adventure island and Super Mario RPG last night when i started out on my very short quest to get some last minute games.

Today, friday, i decided to not get the SNES games which are on Switch Online, and mainly get the ones which are not on Switch Online. To my surprise, it seems like Super Mario RPG is actually not available on Switch Online? But why? Anyway, it was kind of a nice decision i guess to buy it then.

Next, i am thinking maybe Bayou Billy for NES, Harvest Moon for SNES, Street Fighter Alpha 2 for SNES, Harvest Moon 64 for N64 and Neutopia, Neutopia II and New Adventure ISland for Turbo Graphx.

As well as Some games for Nintendo DS and GBA.

What to buy, what to buy?

Not just old Virtual Console games are of interesting, i want to try and get some new ones as well.

I only have limited amounts of money to spend though, as it is too late to transfer money to my credit card and it might also be too late to sell stuff and get it to my debit card account.

Games i kind of thought about buying first but i might not buy now because they seem to be available on switch Online are for example Mario Party 2, Mario Golf, Donkey Kong Country 2, Ice Hockey, Ice Climber m.m.

For GBA, it is tricky because we do not know which games they might add to it in the future. Games like Golden Sun and Advance Wars does not seem to be available right now but could be in the future..

What do you suggest?

Generally, is it hard to buy Turbo Graphx games legally elsewhere?

The Neutopia games seem really nice. Like Zelda for NES but more advanced graphics.

Too bad Illusion of Time and Terranigma does not seem to be available neither on Virtual Console or Switch Online.

What to buy, what to buy?

Also, i should mention i have some of the games as cartridges, bought in the past. I bought and played more Nintendo game sin the past as a child and teen than i do now but i still kind of want to buy some games now when it might be the last chance to get them now when eShop is closing for Wii U and 3DS.

It seems like i might not need to get the earthbound games,t hey are available on Switch Online subscription.

However, it seems like Star Tropics 1 is on Switch online but for some reason the sequel Zoda´s Revenge Star Tropics 2 is NOT on Switch online??

So maybe i should just buy Star Tropics 2 but not Star Tropics 1. I definitely want them. Zelda-like games and i enjoyed playing a pre owned Star Tropics cartridge many years ago and even longer ago i enjoyed Star Tropics when i borrowed it from a friend even though i could not get far in the game. I guess nostalgia plays in, if i look at the game objectively i might not think it is still great, but..it is Star Tropics, and i feel like i need to at least get it in my collection one way or another. And getting to try the sequel would be nice too.

I feel like i need some kind of short list of games to definitely get and a "maybe" list of games to maybe get.

I could not find Star Tropics 2 on the official web site but maybe the official game list is not updated. https://www.nintendo.com/store/products/nintendo-entertainmen... I was thinking there might be a better more updated list somewhere here at Nintendo Life dot com.

Edited: It seems like i found such a list! Great. https://www.nintendolife.com/guides/nintendo-switch-online-ev...

The Virtual Console Harvest Moon games might be worth picking up, since on the Switch only Japan is getting them… Which makes me worried that there might be some sort of licensing problem there preventing Natsume from releasing them again.

These are…
3DS: Harvest Moon (GBC), Harvest Moon 2, Harvest Moon 3
WiiU: Harvest Moon (SNES), Harvest Moon 64, Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town, Harvest Moon: More Friends of Mineral Town

I wouldn’t be surprised if this extends to the Legend of the River King games as well, of which there are two on 3DS.

Edit: also please try to edit your posts, avoid posting multiple times in a row.

@Eel Ah, yeah. I actually learned how to gain access to a japanese Switch online account but it would mean paying double subscriptions..a bit expensive. Harvest moon for Switch online would also be in japanese so i might just buy it for Wii U instead to get an english version. And as for harvest moon 64, is it not the same game as Harvest moon back to nature on PS1? Which i own. (obviously there could still be minor differences between an n64 version of a game and a ps1 version of a game with the two consoles being so different in some ways)

So i might not get harvest moon 64. Tough decisions.

and then there are the friends of mineral town games as well? Oh man.. i can not buy just harvest moon games, so much else out there to consider buying.

I am thinking also about Axelay and Legend of the mystical ninja. They do not seem to be on Switch online subscription but Konami do release older games on other platforms. But i do not think Axelay or Legend of the mystical ninja are available on steam..

@Simon97 Harvest Moon Back to Nature on the PS reused the character designs and graphics from HM64, but both games are completely different. Most characters even have different personalities and family relationships.

Friends and More Friends of Mineral Town, however, those two are indeed based on Back to Nature. With the main difference between both versions being that in More you play as a girl.

@Eel Interesting. You seem familiar with the Harvest Moon franchise. I have not played them so much but i think i should at least buy the original SNES game.

But i could not find the Friends Mineral town and More friends of mineral town games. I looked in both Wii, Nintendo DS and GBA sections on the Wii U eshop.

Are they only available in some regions? (maybe only in USA? I am in europe) Or only available on the 3DS eshop?

Maybe some games are starting to disappear right now a few days ahead? Sadly. Nintendo are hurting my feelings by removing all the games before i have a chance to buy them. Actually, i had plenty of time but i postponed it to the last minute.

I actually think i own two Harvest moon games. Back to nature for PS1 and some magical melody game.. for gamecube. Back to nature is a game i tried late one evening but my character passed out and i was too tired to understand why or read the manual. I did not give the game a fair chance i guess. The magical melody game is one i probably have not even tried yet.

If nothing else, i kind of want to explore the original game and try it out. Try the origins of the franchise. I guess the sequels might be a bit too hardcore for me, maybe, with a lot of new features and even more time which it takes to grow the vegetables.

Also, i am kind of fond of retro 16 bit pixel art style games. Not just for nostalgic reasons, i like the visual art style too.

@Simon97
You will enjoy better Story of Seasons games (previously Harvest Moon until Natsume took the brand name) on PS4 or Switch as they offered same gender marriage, better farming mechanism so in my opinion the old Harvest Moon on SNES, GBA, PS1 are already too outdated, I personally will not even looking them back.

That’s not quite what this thread is about.

He wants recommendations for the 3DS and WiiU VC.

If you're a shmup fan

Blazing Lasers (TG16 Virtual Console)

This game is legit one of THE best shmups I've ever played, and it's not sold anywhere else, on any console, that I'm aware of, unless you have a TG16 or emulate. For $8, I'd say get this game. Definitely the best TG16 game that exists.

Ok, i now also bought Harvest Moon and Star Tropics 2 Zoda´s Revenge. A few more games added at least to the collection.

What to buy next? Hmmmm.

It seems like the Konami classic games Axelay and Mystical Ninja starring Goemon are not available on Switch Online so i might buy both of them. I actually played Goemon once as a kid, a friend had it and i borrowed it from him. But Axelay, i do not think i ever played it but the "lava man" boss looked so cool on screenshots.

Nintendo did a similar boss in Star Fox 64 on the Sol level which was kind of awesome.

(But i do not need Star Fox 64 from Virtual Console since i own it)

Also, the Wii U Panorama "games" which are more like interactive videos are cool. I checked out a demo earlier. I might get at least one of them, there are four available. It really shows what the Wii U technology could do in a cool way so it seems like a kind of nice thing to add to Wii U because it is something which has some unique Wii U features, like Nintendo Land. There are four videos available with clips from four different locations.

I noticed some people mentioned Affordable Space adventures so i thought i would buy it but it turns out i owned it. Probably from an old Humble Bundle.

Hm, i wonder when exactly they close. Midnight?

Soon, it could literally be the eleventh hour! So much i should still purchase. It seems like things are turning into some kind of, ehm, Time Crisis!

UPDATE:

The time is now 21:34 local time (CET) and i bought Axelay and Mystical Ninja for SNES as well as two Nintendo 64 games.

Ogre Battle 64 and Bomberman 64.

And with my old Nintendo 64 games i bought when they were new, and the Switch Online service, i am now officially finished with Nintendo 64 on the Wii U Virtual Console.

Buying 64. Complete 64.

Yeah!

(Except for Harvest Moon 64 which is available on Switch Online but only in japanese. But i probably skip it and play it in japanese. On Switch.)

Bomberman 64 seemed like maybe not the best game to get, but hey, i always felt a bit sorry about not being able to afford it as an N64 game. In a time when they were expensive, like 60 bucks a game. And i was a poor kid, like most kids are.

So, no Yoshi´s Story, Mario golf or Mario Party 2. I keep it to Switch Online to play them but owning Yoshi´s Story would have been nice. As for the Zeldas, Super Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, Paper Mario, Star Fox 64, Wave Race 64 and some others, i own them on the N64.

So, what is next? Probably Turbo Graphx 16 or Nintendo DS.

Also, i keep thinking about if some GBA versions of SNES games are different enough to buy them. Things like Super Street Fighter II on GBA or Super Ghouls n Ghosts on GBA. But nah, probably not enough difference to get them.

I am betting on the whole Super Mario Advance games series (four games) getting on Switch Online eventually, so i probably will not buy them on Virtual Console..

Definitely something worth considering! Thanks! I am probably buying at least four other games for Turbo Graphx. Neutopia, Neutopia II, New Adventure Island and some track n field style game from Konami. And then there are the Bonk platformer games too which look kind of nice. And a nice shoot em up game is always interesting too. I might invest heavy in Turbo Graphx 16 games.

But i also need to have money left for Nintendo DS games. I think GBA games might eventually get available on Switch Online. But DS games, i do not know how you would be able to play them without a stylus pen on Switch. And i do not think Switch has a stylus pen, but maybe i am wrong. Maybe there was a stylus pen for Super Mario Maker 2.

On DS, the Zelda Games and Yoshis Island DS feel like must haves! I really like Yoshis island for SNES but i do not think i played the sequels.

Yeah i hear you anti-matter, totally, but i also think i need to invest primarily in games now which are not available elsewhere so i could always get some other HM / SoS games later on. And also, i kind of like retro games and want to explore the roots of Harvest moon.

Presumably the 3DS Theme Shop is affected by this too. Went on there just now to look at some themes, but the browsing system is so slow, so instead I'm pulling the whole of the European themes from Google drive - 1.54gb - who knew it would be that big? Don't think I'll install all of those on my 3DS at the same time.

Edit: Oh boy. No joke; about 50% of the 1.54gb total are Hello Kitty themes.

Trust me.
Older Harvest Moon games from SNES, N64, PS1, PS2 era are already outdated and very tedious. Also, you just only play as a boy farmer to get married from several girls.
On modern Harvest Moon / Story of Seasons, you can play as boy or girl , you can wear different outfits and have different looks, you can marry with opposite / same gender.
Modern Harvest Moon games have more efficient way of farming so once you can harvest your crops very quickly from Pioneer of Olive Town, you will not thinking to revisit older Harvest Moon games with tedious way to harvest the crops.

Okay, DEFINITELY in panic mode now!!

The clock is past midnight here, but surely they would not shut down eshop just yet?!

Reasons for panicing: Well, i have about 697 swedish krona of uninvested money on Wii U eShop.

AND

i was NOT ABLE to merge the Wii U Nintendo network ID with the network ID on the Nintendo 3DS i just unpacked about two hours ago!!

So now i need to find a way to add funds on the 3DS eShop because i have two different accounts.

the other option was to try to change the password on Wii U and then try to link the 3DS newly started account with my Wii U account. But i figured it was too risky! Because if i change password and they send a password reconfiguration link to a wrong email adress (i have more than one email which made sense at one point in time but not in the very interesting moment i find myself in right now! ) then i might llose access to the Wii U account as well, with less than 24 hours to spend the money i have there which is money i need to spend very soon.

Also.. no one said there were a bunch of cool Game Gear games on the 3DS Virtual Console. Very coool. If i can actually get them. To be continued, guys.

Also, i did manage to buy a few more games on Wii U but i sort of got stuck in playing Neutopia for a bit too long on Wii U. Very nice game, a lot like The Legend of Zelda but better graphics, nowhere near as great as Zelda III though, at least not yet. But it is cool.

Anyway, i have some more panicking to do but i would like some advice about games to get for the 3DS Virtual Console as well! Adventure Island II is a game i consider.

It is so hard with 3DS VC because we really do not know which ones might show up on the Switch Online. But i am pretty sure the more unusual games might not get a Switch Online version.. and Game Gear games, probably not at all.

So i would rather get like Shantae than like Pokemon Blue version.
