Nintendo apparently didn't think it was going to make a lot of money for some reason (Maybe they were right, I dunno), so it didn't have a very large run, and the series has a large following.

Does it cost over 50 used, in EU? I've had multiple chances to buy it. Once when it released($50) and pre-owned for $30 plenty of times.

I guess they figure most people would want all 3 games on one disc, on one system. Whenever I wanted to play the GCN versions, I would just play them on my Wii. Wii BC kept me from buying the New Play Control and this game, basically. Same thing with RE4: Wii Edition. All those games did fairly well, but I already had those games on GCN when they were even more relevant.

GCN RE4 will always be the best, because every version after that is built around the PS2 version which was half the game in comparison to the GCN version, even with the extra content.

EDIT: Oh ya, REmake and RE0 were re-released on Wii, too. I already had those games.

I know what overrated means, and I'm not just throwing it around blindly. I don't know if everyone read my original post, but I LOVE Prime one and two, and the series as a whole. I have no problems with controls, I don't really care about the environments, and I'm definitely not comparing this to other FPS'. I'm comparing it to other Series progressions, other Nintendo series around that time, and other Metroid Games. There was hardly anything wrong with Prime , Echoes was perfectly fine, but I just feel the series went nowhere. I just feel mostly that people praise Retro for being a fantastic company, and compare it to other companies. We barely have an Idea what this company is about when they've only really made Prime and DKCR. Also @Longforgotten you say "they are a series" they are supposed to be similar, yah they are, but not all series stay exactly the same for three games. I love Retro, and I can't wait to see what they do next, but I just feel the Prime games get slightly more praise than they deserve as a whole.

It's not about that it's a series, it's a trilogy which is part of the series. But seriously now, how are these games exactly the same? I don't get it. Is it not the reason that they ARE different that you dislike them. Anyhow I think kkslider summed it up pretty nicely.

Oddly enough, This very morning, I just completed MP2' when I saw this thread.
For me, the mark of a good game is when it has me playing it until about 2AM, which both MP 1 and 2 have done.

I agree with the comment that MP2 is like Majora's Mask - both very similar to their predecessors, yet somehow, quite different.

I personally found the boss battles in MP2 much more challenging and memorable than MP1, on the whole.

As to whether the series is over-rated, dunno, but I can certainly see why the series is so well-loved.
And having previously played Super Metroid on Wii VC, I think MP had to be the way to go. At the risk of being accused of Heresy, SM is really showing its age, but MP still looks good on my 32" TV.

Right, now to get started on Corruption!

I'm totally fine with people not liking the Metroid Prime series. Maybe you don't like shooters, like me. Maybe you hate backtracking. There are a good dozen reasons I can think of. But bland environments?! These games have a flawless artstyle, gorgeous architecture and eery atmosphere. Phendrana Drifts, SkyTown, the space debris around GFS Valhalla, the Seeds, The Pirate Homeworld, some of the boss battles... I get excited about the games just looking at the environments.

I already clicked away from this thread but it was bothering me too much. What game series according to you don't have bland environments, compared to Metroid Prime?

I mean... bland, really?

yeah that's what most confuses me. The other reasons had some logic to them but, that...no. Like, every environment is pretty fleshed out (for lack of better words) story-wise or otherwise and even the less creative areas like Magmoor and Phendrana supposedly just being the fire and ice levels have so many unexpected, interesting aspects and areas to them that make them feel like a fully realized place of some sort. Probably helps that Metroid is practically made for this type of stuff to be interesting (morph ball areas are a major reason why Magmoor is interesting).

Sorry guys I kinda took back the bland environments argument realizing how stupid it was ... But yeah I should've used different words. They aren't boring to look at, they are detailed, they aren't bland . I just think that it would be nice if they didn't just do fire and ice worlds. i would just like to be wowed by the themes of the worlds I explore, not just the layout and details. It's a minor gripe, but it would be really cool to see a desert forest, or something out of the ordinary that looks beautiful, alien, and couldn't be found in other games. Something that would make people think "Metroid."

I don't think the series is massively overrated but can see areas that it is slightly overrated. Some of its flaws would harm other games' scores more than they have done to the Prime series..

All 3 games have at least one "oh God, I've got to backtrack through a massive nothingness" section and the scanning became fairly tedious at points.

I only posted this to get my avatar as the forum's thumbnail.

For all their detail and technical mastery by and large the environments adhered to almost earth like biomes. Even the extreme climate levels with their lava or frozen wastes felt inherently limited. Like when I was exploring an ancient ruin fully immersed in my first person perspective, and then a space pirate would appear. It's difficult to explain but i never could see the Space Pirates as intelligent, when their every appearance seemed scripted and inevitable in its outcome (their defeat). The subsequent games in the trilogy went a long ways to amend that.

Hm I guess what I'm saying is that a Metroid which clings to any vestiges of our reality doesn't live up to my sci if expectations, some how. Something more than a graphics upgrade is needed to progress the experience, and realize a truly alien universe.

Nope sorry, not overated in the slightest. It deserves where it is.
Metroid Prime, in my eyes, was the best video game of the last decade.

If you aren't wowed by the environments in the MP games then I suggest you get eyeballs for those sockets. The environments are one of the things that just made the series, they were amazing and they still stand up excellently today!

I own the collection on Wii and loved every second of Prime 1 & 3.

My SD Card with the game on it is just as physical as your cartridge with the game on it.
I love Nintendo, that's why I criticize them so harshly.

I think they need to finally make a game with dual analog control, and go back to the powerups from Prime 1. They seemed the most interesting to me. I didn't like how in Prime 2 they split the world in half, and in Prime 3, they made you go to even more, smaller worlds. It needs to be on one world. One big connected environment is better than lots of tiny ones with half baked loading screens inbetween.

Prime 1 had the best world design
Prime 2 im not sure what what was best beyond from being another prime game
Prime 3 had the best controls

So take prime 1's general layout and prime 3's controls and we will have the best prime game yet.

you know in an attempt to make this relevant to Wii U, I was initially against a new Metroid Prime being made, simply because I liked how the series ended on a high note like it did instead of running it into the ground, but I can't imagine a better, more brilliant and clever idea for 3D Metroid. As long as Retro is finally allowed to tackle more than one project at a time, I'm all for Prime 4.

Prime 4 does sound like a good fit for Wii U.
If anything, this forum made me want to play Prime again, but that's just not possible with all these good games coming out.
So I am all for Prime 4! (Scanning with the gamepad sounds like fun)

I personally think if we are to get another Metroid it should be a FPS , as Nintendo doesnt have a FPS beyond from metroid. Just for the sake of variety it should be a FPS not to mention Prime revitalized the series from its long break (no n64 game).

As others have brought up the most obvious use of the gamepad would be for scanning or a map. However i hope they keep the Wiimote / Nunchuck controller scheme from Prime 3 as an option as it was the best. Could go so far to have a Pikmin setup where you could play with the Wiimote/nunchuck while also have the gamepad as a map.
