Evil is present
A9BB-0000-016C-EA47

The Evil Master Plan is ready, jump into this scrolling caste adventure and feel the horror! Master of the castle can even find Yoshi from somewhere over the clounds // My first auto-scrolling level, what do you think?

That is actually my fifth level what I have ever created. I just bought Wii U few days back . Plese check my other level if you like this one, but I believe this is the best so far.

Lake of wonders (8825-0000-0167-F747)
Close to the castle (A3DA-0000-0164-FE08)
a bit too Spiny (2D1F-0000-0163-4772)

Also, I saw you played/starred/commented on "Enemy Training Rooms" but I was just about to (and now have) upload a new (and better... I think) version of it! So thanks for the star, and sorry you no longer have the best time.

No worries, I'm all for re-uploading courses when needed. I've done it like a hundred times now. I'll check out the new version soon.

Hey guys, I'm new here. Just joined up recently. I've been discouraged at how few people have played my courses. Any of you willing to take a look at them? There's two that I'm particularly fond of. Both are made in a traditional Mario style.

Don't be too discouraged, they will get played more over time. Play lots of 100 Mario Challenge for good karma! I will check them out if you post the bookmark links for them from the Super Mario Maker Bookmark site.

Everyone has one of those levels that they spent lots of time on and are really proud of and no one clears it or stars it right? Or is that just me? This is mine, I realize it is very hard but it don't require difficult jumps or finding hidden blocks or have instant death if you go through the wrong door, or 100 baddies coming at you at once. It is just a dungeon style level that has a lot to it and you have to do everything in the correct order. It is an exploration course and the time limit hurts it but I can't add check points because you have to go back and forth through pipes when you start at a check point it is just a starting point and the stuff you have done is no longer done. Anyway, if anyone wants to check it out and give me feedback here are the links.

My more difficult courses don't get played, cleared, or starred much so I have replaced most of them with easier versions that I am still proud of because they are still creative and fun. People definitely seem a lot more likely to star a course if they clear it which makes sense. I bookmarked this one to check out later. I might have some newer ones that you haven't played and might be interested in if you just check out my profile in my signature.

Hey all, I'm totally new to this, but I've got the game recently but noticed none of my levels are even getting noticed, so I came to show em off here. I went for the levels I wanted to play when I started the game up- just traditional levels.

I'll bookmark them if you post the links from the Super Mario Maker Bookmark site.

@marakassi Haha, I've noticed you've been playing some of my other courses. They're not worth it. I didn't start putting much effort in them until Castle of the Three Kings. Even then, I'm not proud of that one. Boo Village is where I started getting "serious" about course design. As soon as I reach my upload limit, those early courses are first to go.

By any chance, do you guys know what happens to the stars I earned on courses when I delete them? Do they get deleted?

Rest assured, they don't get deleted. It was something I was particularly worried about when I first got the game; that I've have to delete a course with say, 2 stars, in order to replace it with one that would have to get 5. Thankfully, you can delete all your courses, and you won't lose a single star.

@PowerStar yeah I figure out, but they weren't so bad, thank you for shearing. My first attempts of level making ("Little cave adventure" and "a bit too spiny") are nothing special either, but you have to start from some where, right? . My favorite of your levels is "Journey to the Great Tree". Quite cozy atmosphere, and the tree at the end is awesome

It is very fun to see that some of my levels are getting noticed and even stars! I would like to hear some comments regarding to "Evil is present", because I tried to be very calculating and careful when designing that level. There are many secrets I can tell.. .

P.S. The supermariomakerbookmark says that difficult is "expert". It's not that hard, seriously.

nope, you will keep them but everything else will lost, like world record etc. I google it yesterday. Have not tried my self yet.

I've done it many, many times. Your info is completely correct. The stars will still count toward your total but you will never see them listed on that course again. If you counted all of the stars on my courses now, it would total a lot less than my actual grand total. It's a little disappointing but it was worth it because of the improvements I made. I get annoyed when I play an older course that doesn't have a check point but obviously needs one and the person clearly just doesn't want to delete and reupload it. I wish people cared more about the quality of the courses in 100 Mario Challenge than about seeing lots of stars next to their course.

I cleared out (hopefully all) unintended solutions and softlocks out of my old level and replaced wigglers with bumpers ,because they're more reliable. I also added brand new puzzle. If you know Yoshi, this level is easy.

That screenshot may still show screenshot of old version, because nintendolife hasn't updated thumbnail from new miiverse page

Nice course! I went back and got the green mushrooms and the Yoshis... clever idea! The ending seems a bit odd because I just skipped Bowser but I guess it's supposed to be an easy reward at the end. Also, and this is really minor, the special effect that plays as you're climbing up into the first tunnel played multiple times since I crawled around a little so it's kind of weird. An alternative, if you ever want, is to put the sound effect on a coin or on a tunnel so it only plays once. If you put it on the tunnel, you will want to put it on the other side because the sound effect will play when coming out of the tunnel and not when using it. Overall I think you've made an excellent course and I was happy to star it. Tell me some of your personal favorites of your own courses and I will check those out too. The link to bookmark mine is in my signature if you're interested.

I enjoyed them both, especially Journey. I liked a couple of your other courses as well.

You have some good ideas but overall it was too challenging for me. It's well designed but it seems like it needs to be done in a very specific way and you don't have time to really work out what that is. I was going through too many lives trying to figure out what to do. Sorry, that's just my honest opinion.

We have another battle on our hands! With the new update I've made a new Colosseum level. If you aren't familiar with my Colosseum series, they're 1 on 1 battles in a closed cage. Just like gladiator style, 2 men will go in but only 1 will come out. Will it be you?

EDIT: I also made a SMW version because the NSMBU version has an unintended exploit Which makes it easier. This is actually how it was intended to play

After watching my level played on Twitch, I decided to ease the level, mainly be adding an additional checkpoints and some clues.
Here is the new version of my Ghosts in the Machine.

Bookmark link: https://supermariomakerbookmark.nintendo.net/courses/349F-000...

The level is not easy but you only need some patience. It is never unfair. I was surprised how you can totally miss the point of the level when not concentrating. Twitch player are always distracted when interacting with the chat and talking about everything else than the current level. Therefore I decided to make the level more foolproof, that means that you can't get stuck when going to wrong direction and don't know what to do. And it means that I added way more clues for the main puzzle of the level.

Therefore, if you didn't play my level before, you should try this new version. I am open for feedback since of course I want the level to be enjoyable.

I wanted to make a pure shooter course that feels like you're passing through waves of oncoming enemies like an old school arcade game. I just realized I probably should've made it auto-scroll but please let me know what you think before I make any changes. I had to include the clouds at the bottom and the solid platform at the top so people won't be able to just skip past everything (a trick I often use to get through some stages on Expert 100 Mario Challenge). If anyone wants to check it out and give me some feedback, it would be much appreciated.

https://supermariomakerbookmark.nintendo.net/courses/281E-000...

@mrrichston: thank you for being the first to play it! I realized that Bowser can just be shoved out of the way at the end but it's pretty tricky to get the top of the flag pole if you do it that way so I figured defeating him would give you that extra (but inconsequential) reward instead of being a requirement. I almost finished Between a Rock and A Soft Place but I didn't quite figure out the final step yet.

Oh I see. I didn't pick up on that just by playing it but that is how the retail Mario games usually go now too so it makes sense.

Here's what I wrote about it above: "You have some good ideas but overall it was too challenging for me. It's well designed but it seems like it needs to be done in a very specific way and you don't have time to really work out what that is. I was going through too many lives trying to figure out what to do. Sorry, that's just my honest opinion."

To expand on that, I am wondering if you had other people play test it before uploading it. My sense is that your course fell victim to the fact that courses are much easier for their creators than they are for anyone else because the creator knows exactly what is coming. It would be different if I had time to think things through or if I didn't have to restart from the beginning each time I fall down. For example, there's a part where the burning cheep cheep first show up and I was always focused on dodging them so I kept getting knocked off the platform by the flying block. there's about 4 things happening there at once and your movements have to be VERY specific, almost pixel perfect it seems. There were several areas like this and I didn't even get very far really. I think you have a great idea but I don't think you are accounting for the fact that everyone else is going into it knowing nothing about it or the route that you worked out. A little more forgiveness in the form of more power-ups and maybe some falling blocks underneath certain parts might go a long way. You could also give direction with arrows and coins. Otherwise it's just constant trial and error and every error results in starting all over. I really wanted to clear it because you obviously put a lot of thought into it and each attempt got me a little closer but there's a ton of courses out there for me to check out so 19 tries seemed like enough for a single one, especially because I was losing lives just trying to figure out what to do next. If I came across it in Expert 100 Mario Challenge where my lives are actually rather important, I would have skipped it after 1-2 tries because I could tell early on that it would require too much trial and error.

j-BL00D wrote:

I know EXACTLY what you mean! I spend a lot of time building my levels and I'd like to think they are pretty well built and hope people can see a lot of thought has gone into them.

J-BL00D, you might have more stars than anyone else on this forum. You are definitely not underappreciated. To be frank, I think your courses are frustratingly difficult so I'm amazed that they pull in so many stars. Obviously people have different tastes but I think it's extremely rare to see courses with such low clear rates and so many stars. In that way you kind of baffle me a little bit honestly. But I would LOVE for any of my courses to get the attention that yours all do... though it would probably help if I promoted them a lot more so that's on me I guess.
