@Chandlero: I don't mean to be rude, but that's just BS. If that were true, there would have to be different boxes in stores for every version of Mario Kart 8, Smash, Splatoon and... oh, Mario Maker. Ask any developer and they will tell you it's not a new publication. Or google what "update" means. "Update" and "new publication" don't go together (unless they're on a different platform).
My GOTY? Legend Of Zelda: Splat of the child. Ah no, I meant LoZ: Breath of the SPLATOOOON!
@shani: Yes, it is rude. I have a book that I sell. Each new edition acts as a new publication. Everybody has to cite the edition number when citing my book.
1. An advisement providing more up-to-date information than currently known.
He gave me an update on the situation in New York
2. A change in information, a modification of existing or known data.
I just made an update to the Wikipedia article on guerillas
3. An additional piece of information. An addition to existing information.
I just made an update to my blog about my trip to Rome
4. A modification of something to a more recent, up-to-date version; (in software) a minor upgrade.
Our database receives an update every morning at 3 AM
I have a couple of updates to install on your laptop
5. A version of something which is newer than other versions.
"You should try the update: it rocks."
#2 and #4 apply here. It's a modification of something that already exists, not a new publication.
My GOTY? Legend Of Zelda: Splat of the child. Ah no, I meant LoZ: Breath of the SPLATOOOON!
@Chandlero: That's just because books come from a time where updates weren't technically possible.
That's why they call it a "new edition", not an "update".
I was aware of books when I wrote this. Your comparison just doesn't apply.
If it weren't already an old convention, you could actually update e-books.
Anyway, I don't think it makes sense to discuss this any further because there's nothing left to say.
@Chandlero: I'm not saying it's totally terrible as it is. I just would prefer it because it looks way more cleaner and because it would correlate better to the development of video games (and levels are a part of those).
But I also understand your point, because levels (and video games of course) are pieces of art and in the traditional understanding, there was no place for something like an update.
I actually like these kind of discussions, it's basically philosophy of aesthetics (which I found a bit boring during my studies, but not in general).

Maybe I am too old school. I would even forbid to delete old levels since then everybody would really work hard before her publication (in the book world that is still a thing ; ). Of course with the upload limit this is not possible. However, I would prefer it.
But there we stand: We have totally different opinions and the happy medium is already there
@Freeon-Leon: Searching for a good level, I played one of yours, today. I chose "Skytop Sawpit" in spite of playing the first version some time ago. I didn't remember it so well but you can watch me here.
It is a great level and I had fun
@Chandlero: Thanks man! I remember I had to upload a newer version because I saw a video of someone going through the level and showed me some flaws. It's really interesting to see you playing this version too. Thank you again!
Btw, I'm uploading an improved version of Bowser's Frosty Fortress this week, in case you want another fun level to play
I do see some problems, particularly with the comments, stars, and clear rates. You could create a really easy level which would be in Easy 100-Mario challenge and then turn it into a trolling level or something like that for example. Chandlero's analogy to print publications might seem odd but it actually does make sense to me. You are putting something out there for public consumption so generally you don't just alter it and present it as the same thing whenever you do that. However, I disagree about video games. Unless I'm forgetting an option to cancel, it seems the games update automatically and sometimes the differences are notable. It tells you that it's updating it though and they make all information on the update publicly available. However something like that for SMM courses just wouldn't be worth it so it's easier just to do it the way that they do.
HOWEVER, there is NO excuse for not allowing people to simply drop a checkpoint in without making other changes. Some of the issues still exist but they are significantly outweighed by the benefit in that instance. I was hoping they would allow just that but I also kept that hope to a minimum because as much as I love the big N, they are NOT very savvy with things like that. They are way behind the curb when it comes to online services and in no hurry to catch up. They still excel in other areas though and I only own Nintendo consoles.
Been busy but I finally finished my single screen challenge puzzle level. It includes a single screen sub level as well. I couldn't think of a name so I took the name of the first level I ever made (since been deleted) it is an inside joke with my cousin so don't worry if you don't get it. I'm have so much fun with these single screen levels I am going to keep making them aND use the name for a series. I already have 2 others that I made before this one I just have to rename them. Any criticism or feedback before I enter this into the challenge would be appreciated
I agree with Chandlero on the update debate, yea it would be great to keep stars and comments and make simple edits but people would abuse it and I'm glad you can't do it. You keep your stars from deleted levels so to me it isn't an issue.
Another benifits to deleting and re uploading is that new levels get more plays. I have been fixing some of my older levels that have gotten 5 or 6 stars and then sat with nothing for a long time without being played and after I re upload as a new level they are getting played and getting Stars again.

I really wish super mario world had the ability to scroll the level so mario is to the left or right of the screen instead of centered, and also have the backup power up box that the original game had.

Got my new computer yesterday, unfortunately I don't have a day off work until next Sunday (11 more days) and quit a few of those are 12 hour shifts. Hopefully I will be posting level videos soon though. I just need to find time to get everything set up.
Another benifits to deleting and re uploading is that new levels get more plays.
Is that so? Didn't know that. Some of my levels got most of their plays long after their publication, so I thought it would be the opposite (creating a new level instead of an update wouldn't get much plays).
No problem at all @ having different opinions. I can see where you come from and for me it is just outdated not to be able to update something. I'm just used to that from making music and writing lyrics, for example. And even publicated books contain a lot of errors (spelling or otherwise). So from my personal point of view, books lack an update feature too. Because for me, a work of art is never truly "finished", it develops just as you develop as a person over your lifespan.
And I even agree with your point that "everybody should really work hard before her publication" (and I don't think people don't work hard enough if there is a possibility to update, I think it's the opposite - at least for me - because you can even put more hard work into it after the first publication). It's just even after a lot of hard work and when you think your work is finished, hours/days/weeks/months after the publication new ideas or improvements come to your mind and then you want to update your creation.
I still would like to make the development process transparant, like I do with my tracks (version 2.0 etc). I would totally support something like a version history in MM, that way everyone could see what was changed over time.
And thanks for playing my level!
