lol I know, the hand racism thing is old news anyway. The more videos I see on the game the more anxious I am to get it. I requested September 11th off and my supervisor approved it (they have no idea it's because of Mario Maker, I claimed I need to pick up a relative at the air port) so I will more than likely go a midnight release at Gamestop and stay up until the crack of dawn playing the game, pass out, wake up, go get a breakfast taco, eat, and then go back to playing the game.

I'm definitely requesting that day off too as soon as possible. My hype has grown to near-smash levels of hype. And I LOVE Smash.
Not sure if Best Buy will do a midnight release though....will they? Because that makes all the difference in which day I request off.
If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.
I dunno if this has been discussed yet, but I found this to be rather amusing.
Apparently there's a journalist by the name of Ben Gilbert that played a build of Mario Maker, upon noticing the hand on the game screen, he thought that it looked like a hand of a white female. He then complained to Nintendo that basically the game was sexist and racist because there was no option to change the gender or skin tone of the hand to represent the type of person that could be playing the game. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=mario+maker+is+r...
If he'd put a bit more thought into it, he could have added in agism and bias towards right handed people.
Personally, I would rather have the option to turn the hand off as I would rather see more of the play area while I'm trying to figure out where I want to place more set pieces.
I had seen it, yep. I seriously hope Nintendo didn't add the different hand options because of this idiot.
Unfortunately, a particularly dogmatic and fanatical group of people (I believe there's an internet acronym but I can't quite remember it ) have made the terms "racist" and "sexist" pretty much meaningless at this point. Men are taller than women. Therefore nature is sexist.
This Japanese trailer shows three different auto-scrolling speeds you can set your level to and reveals that you can increase or decrease the time limit.
I hate time limits in mario, I like to explore the levels not just rush through them. I also would like to make levels that have hidden stuff, not that coins and one ups matter anymore but maybe an easier routE to the goal that is well hidden or something.
I have a couple of questions for the people who have been following news about this game closer than I have:
Are the Amiibo costumes only available in SMB1 style? Or are there variants in the Amiibo costumes for the other styles?
Is there a way to encorporate Yoshi in the game aside from becoming him with the amiibo costume? Can I ride Yoshi around in the SMW style, for instance?

Regarding the hand, it only appears on the television and not on the gamepad. You are likely going to be looking at the gamepad when designing levels so its not a big deal how much of the screen it covers.
Also there is sort of a multiplayer as demonstrated in the IGN video where one person can play test levels on the fly while the other person is designing them. This looks pretty fun.
My biggest letdown with this game is the news that there won't be any star coins. I guess they wouldn't have had any funtion beyond the level, but it would've been cool just to have hard-to-find collectibles of some kind.
This game sees designed so that improving upon it could be a really possible outcome. I can imagine more background/features being added as free or paid updates down the road, like how LBP offers new level creation packs.

This is also quite disappointing for me, but I think I will just use 1-Up's or regular coins as a "3-to-find collectible" sort of deal in my levels. So while it won't actually be tracked in-game, those who care can have an extra bit of challenge within my levels if they want, and I can have a little more fun creating tricky levels with extra goals. Lol.

Yea, there are all sorts of functionalities/ items/ etc that could be added in future updates or even a sequel for the next system.
Checkpoints, star-coin/ yoshi-coin collectables for SMW & NSMBU themes, more enemies (charging chucks, the dolphins, volcano lotus, sparky, rex, thwimp, etc), placeable water or lava tiles throughout levels, yellow spikes from SMW, snake blocks, different level backgrounds (such as desert, forest, bonus, etc), secret exit key + keyhole, more uses of pipes/doors, and a lot more.
Trust me, I am excited for the game as it is, but I also can see plenty of potential for DLC or a sequel.

This is without a doubt my favorite level I've seen created with SMM thus far, and I'm not even that big into the Metroid series. This is the kind of level that I aspire to make! I'm so excited.

That first one is disturbingly similar to the type of level I've been wanting to make in SMM. Also, it's the kind of creative level design I want to encounter from other people.

For those in NA, is it worth it to preorder the game and physical or digital? Any benefit to either?
I have been wondering this too. Midnight release parties at GameStop are a little annoying to me but I live in California so I don't know if that means I will get the game later since I'm in a different time zone. I just want the Game ASAP on release night and I know digital downloads can be a pain and take forever.

Edit: Here is another interesting stage.
Edit 2: Resetti is a playable costume character.
Thanks for sharing. It seems like Bowser Jr. functions almost exactly like the Koopalings did in Super Mario Bros 3 so it gives me a little more hope that they could be DLC. I also hope star coins will be DLC also.
EDIT - it seems like you can actually have boss battles... i initially thought that Bowser and Junior were similar to normal enemies. You can even have boss themes (the Koopaling/Boom Boom battle theme is in this video). I don't understand what the point is to the cat paws though but it's cool how you can make Bowser's face show up in the background right before a boss battle.
