I was wondering wouldn't it be cool if there was a "Open World" Zelda game? I mean the whole Zelda Universe in one game. That would be cool!

Thoughts? Yes OR Nah (Keep it just the way it is)

I was also wondering if Nintendo should do a "Open World" Metroid where you can explore Galaxies and Planets. More like a Destiny and Mass Effect type game where you can explore "EVERYTHING".

See if Nintendo did that Wii U's will be flying off the shelves.

Thoughts? Yes OR Nah (Keep it just the way it is)

Open world really isn't Zelda's style though. Why do fans keep insisting on Nintendo changing the entire formula?

Because it will be a total different scenery.

Mass Effect-like for Metroid could work. I don't wanna see Metroid Skyrim or some other ridiculous idea that doesn't fit.

Some have suggested Zelda Skyrim and I see why but I just don't think it would live up to expectations, especially the gameplay. Making a game with the levels and quality gameplay you expect from Zelda I don't think you can make that work in a Skyrim sized game. Some open world things would be cool but I don't want them to go overboard. They have X for that.

Metroid and Skyrim don't mix up, that would be terrible.

I'd rather not have a large sandbox world that's full of nothing. Zelda already allows plenty of exploration as is

I wouldn't say it would be empty, and what I meant was "Zelda Universe" If Nintendo ever made it I think Nintendo will know what to do.

If you mean open-world as in the original NES Zelda, then yes. If you mean open-world as in a sandbox, then no.

I think the best way to do this is like Ocarina of Time. It allowed you to visit a lot of places early (though you couldn't do much for the most part). Maybe make a bigger field with more landmarks

I think they should change the formula completely it has got stale. (Something as different as say the Adventure of Link was).

There is no real exploration at all in Skyward Sword.

I don't quite understand... How much more open could you want Zelda? With the exception of Skyward Sword, the games are pretty wide open with a lot of stuff to do. Just because it's not like a Bethesda title in how it goes about doing it doesn't mean it's not.

Heck, A Link Between Worlds is pretty wide open and they even give you the option to outright rent/buy all the items so you can do whatever you want.

I like Zelda being as open as every game in the series until Skyward Sword.

@unrandomsam I don't think the Zelda formula's gotten stale at all. If anything, each game breathes new life into the formula with different mechanics and different places to explore.

I own a PS1, GBA, GBA SP, Wii (GCN), 360, 3DS, PC (Laptop), Wii U, and PS4.
I used to own a GBC, PS2, and DS Lite

The whole Zelda universe in one game, huh?! If done right this could be awesome! I am fantasising for a long time about Link travelling through time, meeting other Links. But it should still be a action adventure at heart. Or maybe a rpg (just for once), but certainly not a cheap looking MMORPG!! By the way, one of the rumors is that the new Zelda will honor the entire series, whatever that may mean! Maybe Link does meet other Links this time!

As for Metroid: Samus travelled to multiple planets in Metroid Prime 3! So they could do that again, only much bigger!

Offspring

I say no to both, they are perfect the way they are. Ninty is better off creating a new open world IP than throwing away the tried and true formulas of Zelda and Metroid.

It got stale despite recent games changing it. I should just disagree with everything you say

Not really.

I don't like "Open World" games. They get boring quickly.

I don't think Zelda would work with a completely open world. I want a Zelda with a clear difficulty progression, and a continuous storyline. However, Tales of Symphonia taught me that that is not mutually exclusive with a non-linear semi-open world. In fact I think Zelda should pretty much copy ToS's overworld approach verbatim (referring to the earlier segment of the game right now, I don't think a flying portion fits the series at all). Instead of a completely open world, it should be separated into open sections each with its own difficulty range. Each range contains several non-linear plot elements that trigger different dungeons that can be done in different orders.

Currently Playing: Steamworld Heist, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Tales of Graces F

I like open world, but Zelda wouldn't work with it.
