Just saying, how amazing would it be if the brains behind the Burnout series ended up being a surprise collaborator in the return of F-Zero. That's almost definitely not the case but when I noticed the link I got (unreasonably) excited.
But, it even says in that link that they said their next game isn't a racing game and F-Zero is a racing game. They also made black, huh? I'd actually be more excited for an exclusive FPS for Wii U than an F-Zero game, but F-Zero would be cool, too.
That's some great speculation. What are hopes for if not to be dashed to pieces?
But still, no matter what the game is, I will be very much looking forward to it.
Couldn't Criterion's next game "Team Zero" be a new F-Zero game?
That would be something. Something else, even.
Problem is this thing called EA. Although they have been eager to work with Nintendo IP in the past... Criterion probably has one of the more capable Wii U teams among western third parties... And they mysteriously lost much of their workforce, who joined Ghost Games to work on NFS: Rivals for Xbox and PlayStation hardware...
Could Nintendo strike a deal with EA to ensure some support from one of their top development teams (until an exodus ensues...) and partner with a disgruntled publisher on one of their ignored franchises? Nintendo did say they wanted to start new partnerships with outside talent to fully utilize and expand their IP portfolio... This would be an intriguing means to that end. (And Nintendo needs to guarantee support somehow.)
Yeah, then you have the fact that this new "Team Zero" project is supposedly not a racing game. A clever cover-up? Third-person action take on the F-Zero universe? GTA clone?
"The incredibly creative and talented team at Criterion are hard at work on a new project for next-gen consoles as new IP continues to be a major priority across EA."
Hmm, if I've learned anything about third party developers, it's that "next-gen" always means "non-nintendo." So, I take back what I said. I was just trying to play devil's advocate.
