EDIT: My earlier predicitons came true, Amazon bundles the Fire TV and it's gaming cotnroller in time for the holidays, and even added an HDMI cable.
Good news, I can stop w/ the Ouya - Wii U comparisons (which were admittedly a bit insulting to Nintendo) and move on to Wii U - Fire TV comparisons as Amazon is a bit more in Nintendo's league, even if the Fire TV isn't a Wii U competitor, and won tbe a Wii U killer, but her'es why it might hurt Wii U sales.
Off the top of my head comparisons:
1. Fire TV will have more advertitisng as it's the new Amazon start up screen: http://www.amazon.com/ref=gno_logo
2. Fire TV cool TV ad: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CX5P8FC/ref=amb_link_1?pf_rd_m=AT...
(if "Find Gary Busey" doesnt make you laugh ...)
3. Fire Tv $99 vs. Wii U $299
4. Fire TV has Minecraft - don't laugh b/c it's the $6.99 Pocket ed., people will still buy it for that
5. Fire TV will have Pandora
6. Fire TV controller costs $39.99: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DU0ZI8Q
7. Fire TV games have Leaderboards - see above
8. Wired Ethernet and optical audio out. (Lack of these 2 almost made me not buy a Wii U so I noticed.)
9. FireTV.com is a porn site. Maybe Wii U needs a porn channel?
So, what do you all think, better/ fairer comparison to Wii U than Ouya, yes?
Formally called brewsky before becoming the lovable, adorable Yoshi.
Now playing:
Final Fantasy XIV (PC) | The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (Switch) | Celeste (Switch)
Amazon: Artsy indie games and platformers.
Nintendo: Mario Kart 8, Super Smash Bros. artsy indie games and platformers
Shouldn't they be the same since Mario kart is a racing game and Smash bros is a fighter and the Amazon will have pretty much any android game thats on the prime store. Plus they showed off a Racing game and amazon owns a fighting game developer.

I'm curious to see what Amazon's internal studios do with it. This is a bigger player than Ouya. But if it's not marketed any for the mass public to learn about it then it may just be another failed Android console.

Well its on amazon's front page and will probably be adveritsed on the Kindle Fire which is arguably the best advertising you could ask for. I'm really thinking about ordering one to play the games that will come out for it. I Almost bought oyua for Towerfall.

Uh. The most this would rival is maybe, like, Nintendo TVii. Mostly people will use this as a streaming device, thus it really is, as said above, more of a competition to Apple TV and the like.
Any platform that offers games is technically in competition with the Wii U. This looks very disappointing though. Idk why but I expected more from them.
Four more months until Bayonetta 2.

Personally, the controler is junk. It looks cheaply made and a direct ripoff of the Xbox controler. Did anyone else see the slide where they said you had to pay $60 per month on an Xbox just to use netflix?

This statement is the truth, any gaming alternative is competition. Amazon is very popular in the west so they will most definitely move alot of units and saturate the market further, but i can't really see this as a gaming alternative for anyone who already has a console or decent smart device.
Also one major issue i have with the the Kindle fire tablets is the forced advertisement, i had one for a week and was told i had to pay extra not to receive ads on my tablet. For someone who doesn't watch tv,youtube or listen to radio because of forced ads this was a deal breaker, if the implement the same system on this console i'll never pick it up regardless of what exclusive games it gets.
Still its an interesting project and i'll keep an eye on it.
All kindles do it and if your buying from amazon you get the ability to pay $10 extra or so to opt out. It sucks but doesn't seem to be a big deal for most.

Amazon is going hard, they already have my guys at Double helix and Eric Nylund. But now Kim Swift (The creative mind behind portal) and Clint Hocking (Far Cry 2 Lead) are joining Amazon studios.
Amazon should go 3rd party. They can make more money that way
It's funny becuase this plays into why Nintendo and the other guys are first party and have internal studios. The Oyua was a console without any actual first party developers just a bunch of timed exclusive deals in play with developers. I wanted to get one to play towerfall but by chance it turned out that I can buy Towerfall on my Playstation 4.
Yet these games will be exclusive to FireTV and the Kindle Tablet probably. (or at least the amazon app store). Meaning i'll probably pick this and the controller up this Christmas when it goes on sale.
