So we missed the deadline, we have moved a few times over the last couple of years and I just setup the wii and connected to the internet. I saw that purchasing points has been disabled but we are 300 points shy of buying any games. I assume at this point I am out of luck, reaffirming once again that consoles are inferior to PCs. If anyone has any constructive advice it would be appreciated...
Yeah unfortunately there's no way to add points any more. If you're ok with some legally dubious practices I believe it is possible to mod the Wii and enable you to download WiiWare games. I don't know a lot about how to do that but if you're interested you could try asking @ThanosReXXX, he seems to be an expert on the topic.
@Xyznk Call Nintendo? There might be something they could suggest to you. I'm not sure that they can, but there's one thing I know for sure; if you don't try, you'll never know either. So, I'd say give that a try.
@Dogorilla I know how to softmod a Wii, yes. But I don't know how to make his useless points useful again.
They are now lost forever, unless it is somehow possible to transfer them to another device or account.
@Yosheel I am unsure of when the notice first came out but our lives have been pretty crappy for about 3 years so we didn't know we needed to put anything on the calendar; Not that we would have taken time out from improving our situation to make sure we bought a few games.
I guess what is a slap in the face is the long time inbetween disabling points purchases and disabling the downloads of games for points. I mean if I had gone on and saw none of it available that would be one thing but atm it's just kinda rubbing it in my face.
And I did think about the not so nice (legal) use of ROMs and such that companies like this hate us for. But when we want to throw our money at them they say no. In the end I will probably have to just use ROMs and cut Nintendo out.
It's not that big of a deal. They gave us several month's worth of notice, but it's really meaningless in the end. Don't feel like you're missing out on a world of fun and excitement.
You went all this time not worrying about it. I'd recommend continuing that.
@TheLZdragon Hm, I kinda suspected that already, but I wasn't sure, since I was predominantly into physical games back then, so I made VERY little use of the eShop. My view on these kinds of things is simply always that you already have a no to begin with, so asking doesn't hurt, and sometimes, that no can become a yes. You might never know what's possible, regardless of any standard rules.
Maybe not in this case, but it is always worth trying, in general. I should know, being in sales & marketing and all...
@ThanosReXXX Oh I was thinking he could softmod the Wii so he could download WiiWare game files from the internet rather than using Wii points. I'm pretty sure I remember you saying something along those lines in one of the old WiiWare threads earlier in the year.
@Dogorilla Ah yes, that is an option. I was trying to think of a solution to save his points from going to waste, though. But unfortunately, that's already past saving, or so it would seem...
Anyway, for soft modding, you just need to look up "softmod any wii" or "letterbomb", and for installing Wiiware, you can just look for "wiiware wad files", and Googling those will also bring up tutorials to install them.
