Just had a look on the Wii Shop for my monthly VC purchase and I noticed a game was missing from the Turbografx line up. From the looks of it, Simearth is not there.

I guess EA might of finally remembered it had games on the service? Simcity's still there but for how long, who knows.....

Wasn't sim city removed years ago? Or was that only in America?

America only from the looks of it. Just picked it up now just in-case. XD

SimEarth is one of the few TGCD games I downloaded on Wii VC, along with Ys Book I & II.
I never grasped everything about it but I played it for a couple of hours when I had it new and it was very interesting, although a little slow, and seemingly very complex. It's said to be much better than the SNES version at least.

It would be cool if we could have Sim City 2000 (N64 version) which was also a lot more faster/better than the SNES version.

Wasn't Sim City 64 one of the very few N64DD games that got released (in Japanese only, of course)?
Or was that a different game?

@KingMike Yes, Sim City 64 was Satoru Iwata's 3D version of Sim City for the 64DD.

Never knew SimEarth came out on TG-16. The game was very complex on PC, so I'm surprised that it's apparently just as complex on consoles. I never grasped how to play it, so I just went back to SimCity and SimAnt.

I wish SimCity SNES version would come to 3DS VC. Compared to later SimCity sequels, SNES SimCity is very basic, but I liked the music and Bowser, and it's something I'd like to play on the 3DS. Now before you start telling me about the DS SimCities, I played one of them and it was terrible.

Extremely unlikely due to EA owning SimCity and not being interested in VC.

I already knew that. I just wish it was on 3DS VC.

The Super Nintendo game isn't even an Electronic Arts release. It was Nintendo developed via affiliate Intelligent Systems, and published by Nintendo. It's a 1st party release.

So you don't need EA to be interested in publishing VC games, just willing to play ball so that NOA would be allowed to relicense the rights to the SimCity name and concept like they were able to when the VC was new.

Made by them or not, Sim City belongs to EA and its up to them to decide if it's worth their time letting nintendo sell it.

Kinda like how Nintendo can't sell Yoshi's Cookie (uses their characters but the game isn't theirs), Tetris (GB) or Tetris Attack (both made by them but the ip belongs to someone else).

The point is that it's up to Nintendo to decide if they want to pursue a rerelease or not.

Nintendo doesn't own the SimCity IP so no, it's not up to them at all.

Are you the same Freelance that posts at the PSPMinis.com forum?

And no, the Super Nintendo title named Sim City was developed by Nintendo, published by Nintendo, and is owned by Nintendo. That's why for instance that they're listed as the publisher right on Nintendo's own website.

It is not Electronic Art's place to decide one day that "hey, let's get this SNES game out on the Virtual Console again for people to download".

That is Nintendo's decision to make since the SNES game belongs to them, not EA. And if Nintendo were to decide to pursue such a rerelease, it's then up to them to contact EA and try to renegotiate permission to again use the SimCity trademark and copyright, just as they did back in 1991 when SimCity was Maxis controlled and then again years later when the Wii Virtual Console was new.

It's in Nintendo's ballpark if they want to get the ball rolling and see if they can re-secure the necessary licenses from EA to again get this one out. Same sort of deal as if Sega wanted to rerelease Castle of Illusion for the Genesis (The game is Sega owned and controlled, but obviously is based around Disney properties), if Atari wanted the old 2600 version of Ms. Pac-Man to appear (Atari owned, but based on Namco property), etc.
