I was just thinking about my favourite Zelda games the other day and I realised that I had never bought one of my favourite entry’s in the series. Wind waker. I had never got around to buying it for the Cube as I just ended up completing it when I’d lent it off a friend. I owned it on the Wii U but I think I had it for free in the promotion Nintendo did with Pikmin 3.
I was wondering what games people had grown very fond of but had never actually bought, particularly Nintendo first party games.
Will be interested to read peoples responses on this one.
they say that life’s a carousel, spinning fast you’ve got to ride it well. The world is full of kings and queens who blind your eyes and steal your dreams. It’s heaven and hell.
The NES Ninja Gaiden Trilogy. I used to borrow them from a friend all the time and I loved them.
Every time a entered a store where they sold video games, I searched if they had them in stock but never found them. I was very young back then and didn't realize you could order games at stores.
The GB/GBC Pokémon games. Of course this was rectified once they were released for the 3DS (and I purchased them all without hesitation). I have considered purchasing the cartridges secondhand and a GBA SP to play them on, but the battery issue with the Gen II games is a deal-breaker.
I also love the Japan-only sequel to the Pokémon Trading Card Game on GBC which has an excellent fan translation. I would kill for a sequel in this style on Switch (and less like the grindy/in-app purchase heavy TCG Online game). If an official translation is made available, I would also buy that without hesitation. I've almost put 100 hours into the fan translation (though I was playing it sped up a lot of the time).
There have been plenty of PC games that I had never "officially" owned though. I loved Jones In The Fast Lane and only recently found out about an enhanced CD-ROM version with fully-voiced dialogue. There are no second-hand copies available at the moment though.
@Silly_G The cartridge batteries are rather cheap and relatively easy to replace. I'd just keep using the 3DS though! That way you can at least move your pokemon forward.
@Eel : The cost isn't an issue. It's more the fact that I would hate for a 50+ hour save file to die (though it's arguably moot as any Pokémon can't be transferred anyway).
Now that I have the 3DS versions, I feel no desire to play them on the original hardware (though as a collector they would be mighty nice to own!), especially now that Crystal contains the previously Japan-exclusive Celebi event unlocked by default, which is a much appreciated touch. Here's hoping that the much-fabled Hall of Origin (from Gen IV) is given the same treatment someday (whether in the form of re-releases of the DS ROMs or full-blown remakes).
@Silly_G Yeah it's honestly not worth the hassle with the 3DS being an easier better option. Though the batteries do last for a few years, so by the time you do lose the file, you'll probably not even remember what was in it.
I remember, as a kid, I would go through a perpetual cycle of starting a game, beating the game, storing the pokemon on Stadium, and starting over. Over and over and over.

On the subject of the thread, something closer than Pokémon Platinum, Paper Mario on the game cube.
I played that game back in the day, and absolutely loved it. But the disc belonged to a friend of my brother, and eventually he had to return it. I’ve purchased it used twice, and neither disc worked beyond the title screen for whatever reason.
Pretty much every game I played on our Amiga A500 as a kid, bar James Pond 2: Robocod, which we did actually own, and the Monkey Island games that I've since bought on Steam.
So, Speedball 2, Sensible World of Soccer, Super Cars II, New Zealand Story (oh no, hang on, I've legit bought that now on my TurboGrafx-16 Mini), Populous 2... the list could get fairly long.
You guys had me at blood and semen.
What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?

Final Fantasy II on SNES. I rented it so many times when I was a kid and borrowed my friends copy but I never owned my own copy. Even now to this day I don't own a copy of that particular version. I did end up getting it on GBA as Final Fantasy IV Advance and got it on PS One as part of the Final Fantasy Origins Collection but never the SNES version

My favorite movie is Toy Story 3
Sonic colors, I have never played that game ever, I have just seen gameeplay of it and oh how I love it from the music to the graphics its all there.Edit: M&L Bowsers inside story I was going to buy it but then my 3ds broke Idk if I can get it fixed.
Easy one for me: that time a friend lent me his PlayStation and a copy of Final Fantasy VII for a couple of weeks or so. I max-levelled all the characters...
Star Wars Battlefront II on PS2 specifically. I owned both Battlefront II and Elite Squadron on PSP but I never played the home console version of the former until I went to a friend's house after school with another friend of mine from school and we just played Hunt, Assault and Capture the Flag all day
I have never actaully owned a copy of Super Mario Bros. Played many hours on friend's consoles growing up, more than many games I own. But have never bought it myself in any form. Even rereleases on VC and such.

Rocket League. One of my friends owned it and we play it together in same-screen multiplayer, but I never got around to buying it. Now that it is free-to-play I might pick it up if it doesn't take up too much storage.
