@Snatcher
I want to ask about Sonic 2006 PS3 / XBOX 360 version.
Is that game hard or easy to play for casual gamer like me ?
I tend to fall into bottomless pit for Sonic Generations PS3 + Sonic Lost World 3DS (that's why i stopped playing those games for unknown time) and i still have some panic feeling to see Sonic running in very high speed.

@Anti-Matter Oh Hell no, with all the glitching you will be falling in Bottomless bottomless pits, the bugs and the janky nature of the game make it much worst, your better of sticking to Gen and lost world, But sonic colors is coming out wit ha easy mode so you should wait for that, (Btw I did not play Sonic 06 but, I have seen lots of free play's were this just happens out of no were)

If I had to say how hard the game is based on a number's scale 10 being the hardest, I would say 6.7. the game is more 3d so if the pits are giving you issue's it would be much easier to spot them, the game is not hard but it does a bad time keeping your attention, Now if it wasn't for all bugs and maybe a little more time in the oven, I think they game would go from a 3/10 to 7/10, (Sadly even tho I love sonic to death, and know a ton about him, I haven't played to many of them yet, I got to get on that this year, right now i'm going though Ad 1, as I have played 2 already, And if I can't play the game I will just look at a walkthough.) sorry if I could not be of help,

@Anti-Matter Also another reason I never played the game was 1, I became a sonic fan by playing unleashed, Its when it really hit me, I was playing 2d sonic games before that tho, 2, By the time I Wanted to try 06 I heard about how bad it was, So I op't for game play and man was it bad, So I wouldn't even buy the game even tho I still have my ps3, the only way I would play it is if it was free some were.

@Anti-Matter Trust me...you do NOT want to play Sonic 06. It's one infuriating mess of a game.

@Anti-Matter Yeah, that'd be good. Personally I'd recommend Sonic 1, 2, and 3 & Knuckles on the Genesis/Mega Drive. They all hold up really well and they're a great starting point for those new to Sonic - Sega's making a new compilation called Sonic Origins that has those games, as well as Sonic CD. Sonic Mania is really good as well.

My views may be a bit... new, because only five years ago did I get a PS4. But I’m no slouch....

I was born after Final Fantasy VII released so the only reason I found out about it was when I read about those landmark video games. I haven’t played through it, but I’ve listened to enough of the music and watched enough gameplay. It’s aged very... very badly. The graphics are quite horrendous; and the only highlight technically speaking with the music (even though the music is good) is the Sephiroth choir. @Matt_Barber helped me write this, because saying a game’s overrated is a strong statement. I’d say the story I’d alright but nothing groundbreaking. The only reason I’d say I love the characters was because of Final Fantasy VII Remake, which can almost be considered a completely different game to the Compliation of FF7 series with depth, and detail. As Matt said, at the time it was no doubt a masterpiece, but I would never consider buying the game on eShop. That’s my overrated game.

Underrated... Death Stranding. Not every game is going to be perfect. Not every game is going to cater to every specific audience on the planet to make the most money. This game is to Kojima what Tenet is to Nolan, more of the traditional elements, but in overdrive. More crazy writing, more unique gameplay, a more untamed story. Contrary to what some unsavoury users have said, it is NOT a walking simulator. There are no real enemies in the game? There’s one all around you; the ground, the sky, the wind, the snow, the rain. All of it is out to get you and it will sure as hell try. I watched Whitelight’s seven hour D.S. Commentary/Critique/Understanding video and it hits home all my feelings of this game. The story’s great, but some exposition is a bit flawed. Some cutscenes contradict each other. The game’s enemies become less of a threat and more an obstacle. But this game is different and people bash it for doing that. For me? 10/10 any day.

@Anti-Matter @MarioLover92 Sonic two would be the best choice out of all of them in my opinion, Sonic 2 give you tails and he makes it a hella lot easier to play, so I would pick that first.

@Matt_Barber Picking the default option and watching the same animations basically describes a lot of JRPGs up to that point, honestly.
So much so that some people argue in favor of FF 1 and 2 (particularly the NES, but I think it was also an option on the PS1 version) "ineffective attack" as a mode that punishes blind button-mashing with wasted turns (though FF4 was the first to give some enemies an AI that also punishes mashing).

@Snatcher Well that's partly why I decided to go straight to Final Fantasy VII Remake. It was my first ever Final Fantasy game, so it was a fantastic introduction to the franchise for me. I don't like playing dated games, because of various contrived elements that would be considered poor design today. For example, I hate random encounters because they throw enemies down your throat regardless of whether you need it or not.

The oldest games I've played on Switch are Super Mario 64 (classic, who would say no?!), Final Fantasy X/X-2, and Link's Awakening.

@TheJGG Thats cool that, that was your first. my first was 15, and its another under rated game in my opinion, alot of people hated it for getting rid of turn base but The characters made the journey just, idk even know how to say it you have to just play it to know what i'm talking about.

@Snatcher Shame you don't check the General Final Fantasy thread, because you would have no doubt seen the countless posts I made detailing my journey through Final Fantasy XV! The characters do make the journey, even if at times they're quite predictable personality-wise. The world's massive if a bit empty, the combat's smooth but maybe too smooth... that's the whole game for you. Potential here and there, unrealised. It's still a 9/10 game for me though.

@Snatcher @TheJGG The problem with XV was it was clearly released unfinished. If you play it without the DLC, nothing of note actually happens in the game.

FFVII and Remake are my faves in the series, love the characters, soundtrack and of the PlayStation era games I think it's aged the best.

Mr-Fuggles777

@darkswabber that was going to be my list and for pretty much the reasons you listed. Have you been stalking me?

I love Suda 51 games but Lolipop Chainsaw has always been my favourite, a lot of people wrote it off as a cheesy fanseevice hack & slash and missed out.
Another underated Hack & Slash from the same era was X-Blades, although it did get more repetitive than LC.

Overrated: Banjo-Kazooie. It's a fun collectathon, but very flawed IMO. I find the controls to be fairly clunky, but I can live with that. Moreso I find a lot of the game to just be tedious: including entire stages (Clanker's Cavern is usually the first stage to make me put the game down), the animal transformations (and any backtracking involving them), and the maze-like hub-world.

Underrated: Sonic Heroes. A lot of people see this game as the start of the "downfall" of Sonic, and I couldn't disagree more. Sure, the story is much less ambitious than the Adventure games - but the same can be said for 90% of Sonic titles. People were getting very sick of Sonic's companions at this point in time, and a common complaint about the game is the overabundance of characters. I'll admit, forcing the player to play through the game with 4 different teams was unnecessary padding...but, unlike the Adventure games, the alternative characters each have play-styles that feed into the core Sonic gameplay in a very organic way, much like the alternative characters do in the 2D games. In fact, I'd argue that this game has overall better gameplay than the Adventure games, and has the best gameplay of any non-boost 3D Sonic. It's just so satisfying switching between speed, power, and flight modes to tackle obstacles in Heroes' stages, and no character type feels out-of-place or bad to play as. Plus Heroes has such a diverse set of stages - from your more typical beach level, to a futuristic metropolis, to a rainforest, to a haunted house - these stages were all very memorable. Probably up there with Adventure 2 and Generations as one of my favourite 3D Sonics.

Overrated: Chrono Trigger.
I've really never got what people seem to love about this game. I thought it was kinda good-ish (8/10 maybe), but nothing special at all. I've played nearly every major "critically-acclaimed" JRPG of the last 30 years, and I would honestly put nearly all of them above Chrono Trigger. Including Chrono Cross, which I thought was a lot better.

Underrated: Star Fox Zero.
The only bad thing about this game is really the control scheme. Everything else about it is really solid. I haven't played all of the Star Fox games but I thought this was the best of the lot, in terms of the actual levels and gameplay.
Really hope they do a Switch version that fixes the controls.

It's dangerous to go alone! Stay at home.

With Chrono Trigger, maybe it's the perspective.
Certain had the audio-visual polish of Square (that unfortunately became their focus, even to the detriment of gameplay. See hallway simulator FFX, and they once apologized for the...Wii? not being able to hold up to their HD graphics standards), but also I recall the 16-bit era was still when JRPG devs were still using storytelling as little more than explaining how to go from point A to point B.
That made the ones like Chrono Trigger that were actually trying for emotional storytelling a standout.
Battle system did give a little more strategic options than other SNES RPGs, though I only recently began to understand what he tutorial guy was speaking of (despite finishing the game numerous times as a kid).
I personally like FF6 a little better but would consider both of them good SNES RPGs.

"Last 30 years" sounds like it would put CT near the beginning of your timeline. That doesn't sound like an even comparison.

I remember trying to play CC and was left confused at what it exactly the battle system wanted players to do. Button mashing seemed to work for as far of the game I was willing to give it before leaving. Could probably explain itself better.

Overrated: Bloodborne. Bought this at launch on the PS4 after buying into the hype and was amazed by how... empty and shallow it was as an experience. It felt, and probably still feels, like a game that was only halfway through development when it was released, with its rabid fanbase scrambling to shoot down any objections to its complete dearth of interesting characters, non-existent storytelling, lack of gameplay or environmental diversity, largely absent music, and its often infuriating tendency to not want to explain itself to the player. It also ran kinda poorly at launch. Switch games get WAY more flak when they drop frames as often and have loading times as long as this game did.

Underrated: Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse. Most SMT games are underrated, to be fair, but this one was even hated by a large portion of the series' own fanbase for its "tropey anime characters," despite characterizations generally being more complex than what you'd typically find from characters in this series. Frankly, I thought it was nice to finally get an SMT game where I actually gave a damn about the characters. The gameplay itself is the best Atlus has ever crafted, with really nuanced monster collecting/customizing mechanics and qol fixes that improve on a lot of the original SMT IV's rougher edges, and its difficulty level is extremely balanced so that anyone can enjoy it. The easiest difficulty is very easy, whereas the default hardest difficulty, War, was quite satisfying to a person like me who had already played several entries in the series by that point. I think there was a downloadable extra-hard mode that I didn't bother with, because I'm not a masochist, lol. Point is, unlike a lot of other MegaTen games, it's not either intimidatingly difficult on the easiest setting or disappointingly easy on the hardest difficulty (hello, Persona 5/P5R!).

Overrated : Just Dance games by Ubisoft.
Really terrible rhythm games with really terrible song list for my taste. How could this franchise keep selling ? 🤨
I would rather listen to my favorite MP3 songs and dancing around rather than playing Just Dance with terrible song choices and really terrible gameplay.

Underrated : Dance Evolution by Konami on XBOX 360 and Arcade.
The gameplay looks similar with Just Dance but with very clear move sets that you have to follow quickly and with very catchy DDR songs. It should get more appreciation. But I know, some peoples really like bad things, left the good things get overshadowed by bad things. 🙄
