I grew up in France, but this game was in English somehow, I probably brought it in a yard sale, so it might actually have been a USA version, I don't know. There wasn't a way to switch languages.
I apologize in advance for the lack of precision, it was stolen from me 20 years ago by a classmate with whom we'd swapped games for a week or so, who then pretended that was a lie. Weird thing is his mother went along, pretending he'd never owned the game he'd lent me in exchange! I wonder now if maybe it was valuable? Who knows. I don't care about that, but I'd like to play it again!
I'm not even sure it was GB and not GBC, but it was all very monochrome, grey/black, or maybe very dark green?
Anyway, you were playing a robot, who collected components to add to itself (but only two at a time). And that's more or less all I remember >< I think I'd recognize screenshots, maybe the cartridge's sticker.
Sorry, I know that's reaaaaally not much to go on! But I figure that you never know!
EDIT: the 'plot' part of my description could be totally wrong. I spoke no English back then, and wasn't well versed in video games, so I basically ran around doing nothing and having no idea what anything was

As @ogo79 said, the SNS-RZ-USA is a prime giveaway that it's not a legit retail cart.
And yes, he is (usually) always right, and he is (almost) the sexiest gamer out there (not counting me) ;)
Thank you for the answers!
It's neither Robots nor Robopon, but your suggestions made me realize that I think it was a top-down view, like GBC era pokemons or zeldas
@Tasuki That's actually a great idea! I'll also see if I can find a 'directory' of GB games!

I edited the original post, because I realized that I'd figured in my head that you were playing a robot, but I could be waaaaaay off.
I was something like 9 y o, spoke no English and was more of a pc-platform-games player. So yeah, maybe no robot ^^'

@IndoorHero I looked it up, and it's too colourful, I think. It seemed very monochrome/dark
But Metal Walker seems really cool, though! I'll add it to my list of to-play =D
