I just want Kirby 64. It's one of my favorite games I've ever played.

Wishlist: We're all able to comfortably pre-order the thing.

Expectation: Loads of panic, some worn-out F5 keys, "Out of stocks"s within minutes, much frustration at Nintendo, a boatload of anger aimed at scalpers and plenty of tantrums. There might be a few tears.

Then we'll all look forward to the GameCube Mini. There'll probably be a wishlist/expectation thread for it...

Seriously though, my actual wishlist would include these: Pilotwings 64, Doom 64, Blast Corps (Rare, so doubtful), Body Harvest, Shadow Man, Top Gear Rally and Turok: Dinosaur Hunter.

N64 Mini would be a weird one because for a lot of people I know, about 90% of their N64 nostalgia is Goldeneye, and that would seem unlikely to appear. They'd have to put a warning sticker on like "Please note: This does not include Goldeneye".

I agree with the lists that focus on 4-player games. The N64 was the first console with 4 controller sockets and tons of great 4 player games.

1. Mario Kart 64 (obviously)
2. GoldenEye (must be but you know it won't, because even with licenses this game is rated mature)
3. Super Smash Bros. (new IP at the time, obvious choice)
4. Mario Party 3 (also, new IP at the time, obvious choice; you could put any, but I put 3 just because it's the rarest)
5. Mario Golf (fresh, addicting, and new at the time, a superb golf game)
6. Mario Tennis (same as above, the early Mario sports games really shined, especially in 4p mode)
7. F-Zero X (the best F-Zero racer, love the idea to add the F-Zero X Expansion Kit from the 64DD!)
8. Perfect Dark (this or GoldenEye, I would take both. They were the best shooters of their time.)
9. Star Fox 64 (the 4player deathmatch may pale in comparison to the single player, but I played many 4 player deathmatches with friends, and let's face it, it will be on the N64 mini anyway)
10. Bomber Man 64 (even though most liked it for the single player, I loved it for the multiplayer)
11. The New Tetris or Dr. Mario 64 (great 4player Nintendo versions of both games, but maybe the fantastic Tetrisphere is a better puzzle choice because it's 3D even though it's only 2 player.)
12. Diddy Kong Racing (I know it has many fans. I can do without. I'd put Wave Race 64, 1080°, or Excitebike 64 instead.)
13. Turok Rage Wars (Just like GoldenEye and Perfect Dark this probably ranked in number 3 for the best 4player shooters on the N64, but there were more defining games like some wrestling, soccer, basketball games).

Of course the rest of the spots will be taken by the singleplayer classics.
1. Super Mario 64
2. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
3. The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
4. Paper Mario
5. Yoshi's Story
6. Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards
7. Donkey Kong 64

If there's still room left, just have a look at the N64 VC on Wii and Wii U, and you know what the filler choices are. Sin & Punishment, Cruis'n USA, Mario Party 2, Pokémon Snap, and Pokémon Puzzle League, and 3rd parties (probably be very limited) with Ogre Battle 64, Bomberman Hero, and Harvest Moon 64.

I hope Nintendo throws in a couple of surprise games that were never re-released on VC.
Stuff like Pilotwings 64, Dr. Mario 64, Mischief Makers, or better yet, F-Zero X Expansion Kit, Sim City 64, Pokémon Stadium incl. full Transfer Pak features (i.e. including Blue, Red, Yellow), Doubutsou Bancho (Cubivore).

I think this would be a good game list for a GameCube Mini:

  • Luigi's Mansion
  • F-Zero GX
  • Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door
  • Super Smash Bros Melee
  • Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker
  • Pikmin 2 (The SNES mini has DKC 1 but not 2. If they were to include only one Pikmin game I'd pick this one)
  • Viewtiful Joe (Not a GC exclusive, but a nice game to represent third parties)
  • Metroid Prime
  • Super Mario Sunshine
  • Mario Kart: Double Dash
  • Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean

I'll just repeat what I said in the article about there possibly being an N64 Mini in the works, since that is probably the most realistic expectation:

A sad initial conclusion to make, though: this mini console would be without any of Rare's epic titles that it had, UNLESS Nintendo can strike some kind of deal, but that probably wouldn't be very cost-effective for them.

I'd also expect there to be even less titles on there than the SNES Mini, so it would probably be a safe bet to expect it to have around 15, 16 titles at most. And taking into account the absence of all of Rare's titles, I have come up with this probable list:

Mario Kart 64
Super Mario 64
Smash Bros 64
Legend of Zelda OoT
Legend of Zelda MM
Wave Race
F-Zero X
1080 Snowboarding
Star Fox 64/Lylat Wars
Pilotwings 64
Mario Golf
Mario Tennis
Yoshi's Story
Kirby 64
Pokémon Stadium 2
Pokémon Puzzle League

Alternatively, some of these titles could be replaced by third party efforts, but the list will probably be humble either way.

It would still be a cool list, though, but just imagine how that list would look if Nintendo does manage to strike a deal concerning Rare's games...

Pokemon Stadium 2 would probably not be included due to no Transfer Pak support.

The only third-party I can think of is like Ogre Battle 64 and Sin & Punishment and maybe a Bomberman game. Maybe Mega Man 64? (though a Nintendo lineup would probably be all E and the first two would probably raise the rating of the console) Far less likely would be a Goemon game, depending if they bother to support Controller Pak save files.
They've included Castlevania games on the other two but neither of the N64 CV games are well-regarded (I didn't know but I've heard the second is just basically a "better" version of the first game).

@KingMike Well, if they make proper N64 controllers, with all features included, then it would also be quite possible to add memory paks, rumble paks and transfer paks as well. Would definitely make a nice addition to Pokémon Stadium indeed.

But even if that happens, the next question will be: who of us still has all their original hardware? And if not, is Nintendo or some third party also going to sell the various paks?

Either way, the future is going to be very interesting indeed, and I'm expecting plans for a GameCube Mini to be "leaked" somewhere around the same time next year as well.
