Which ones would be your favorite?
I'm talking Gameboy, GBA, DS and 3DS. I'm not the biggest fan but if you could suggest ones that may be good for someone who maybe hasn't played every game in the series. Let's see which ones get the most votes!

Honestly you can probably just stick with the original Red. Besides the different Pokemon they are all the same gameplay wise. Of course yeah newer systems have better graphics, color etc. but once you play one you have played them all.

Emerald for GBA (even though I’m not a huge fan of the GBA games.), Pokemon White for the DS, and personally the only good 3D pokemon game is ORAS, with the others being either really garbage like sun and moon or just barren like X and Y.

Platinum was my first Pokemon game so it's probably my favourite, but you can't go wrong with any of the DS ones. And Sun/Moon is my favourite on 3DS.

I still consider the Nintendo DS entries to be the pinnacle of the series, with HeartGold/SoulSilver as the best ones IMO. Diamond/Pearl are slightly below the rest, but they're decent in their own right. Unfortunately, many of the best games out of Gens 4/5 are also very expensive to get a hold of even secondhand.

R/B/Y and G/S/C are still fun to revisit for nostalgia and core experience reasons. The Gen 3 games aren't bad but can be a little slow, plus you'd better REALLY like water in R/S/E. Gen 6 isn't bad mechanically but has by far the WORST story overall; it's telling if I want to drop playing a game in a series I love before the second gym. The Gen 7 games are okay, but I feel the original Sun/Moon could've just spent another year in the oven to add a lot of the extras that were in their Ultra variants. In this day and age, those just felt unnecessary.

I'm currently in the middle of Let's Go Eevee for the first time. Haven't played Sword/Shield yet.

Platinum purely because of nostalgia since it was the first Pokemon game I ever played
