I'll personally be waiting until the Steam Summer Sale of 2021, since the PC version is exclusive to the Epic Games Store, which I'm not a fan of so far. But I'm nothing if not patient.
@ThanosReXXX Here in the land of Walazon our choices get more limited. There's GameStop.....nuff said. There's Walmart (which is always an hour away from any point on a map and is responsible for most of retail's destruction.) The malls are half (or more) vacant (people say it's because the economy, no it's because in the 90's the leveraged the malls at obscene $ per sq-ft during the how high is high economy, and then became restricted by the banks to have to lease at that rate, unable to adjust for retailer needs and the economy...they all assumed the dotcom would boom forever - and it's because in response to that developers built huge strip centers for big boxes on every side of them and the stores moved across the street, then died.) The department stores are long dead, even Neiman Marcus, the store that doesn't sell a pen for under $100 is in trouble. Sears is the common store....yeah.... So we're left with Best Buy (which also flirts with bankruptcy often) and Target. They toy stores are gone (TRU & KB leave only....Walmart and Target.)
So basically other than food, specialty boutiques and $$$$ stores, we're left with only Walmart, Target, Best Buy, and Amazon for everything..... a few others for clothing. The strip centers are now just a bunch of chain restaurants for the office lunch crowd, plus services like spas, salons, insurance, medical offices. All the Porsches I can blame "this area" and gentrification...but no, the retail condition is pretty much national. It's now a self feeding circle. The only place to really get anything, get it cheaply, and get it conveniently is Amazon. And the more you fund them the more the others die. Thus I want to be able to love GS....but.....they make life in Amazonistan seem desirable.....
@Grumblevolcano Yikes, so far I haven't experienced anything, which surprises me, I'm normally the one. But I haven't rebooted it lately. I played at like 2:00 AM though, so I'm not sure when the trouble started (xTreme cold weather insomnia.... )
Also, weird about crackdown having two parts with two different release dates. What the heck kind of development heck did that game go through!?!
@redd214 LOL "Hey guys, there's a great sale on XBox at GameStop!"......."Nevermind, it's cheaper everywhere else....." Yup...kinda in a nutshell.
@CanisWolfred Hmm, that sounded cool until I saw it was Zen Studios....I'll have to go wait and see on that....they can be a little iffy IMO.
Major props to Ubisoft marketing. Got the The Division 2 private beta invite email "Come see what a real government shutdown looks like..." Beautiful marketing there
@NEStalgia Haha, yeah, kinda. Although I now can't help but wonder where they were with their clever and snarky marketing slogans when we had to re-download almost an entire Assassin's Creed game, under the guise of a so-called "Day One patch"...
'The console wars are like boobs: Sony and Microsoft fight over which ones look the nicest and Nintendo's are the most fun to play with.'
Heres another Crackdown 3 preview. Ryan is probably one of the biggest Xbox fans @ IGN so to read this doesnt sound all that promising unfourtunatley. We will see.
@NEStalgia I got that email too. I initially chuckled at the title but knew theyd get some blowback for it. Living in the DC metro area and seeing first hand how it effected many people, doubted it would go over well.
Edit: couple more BC games coming. Port Royale 3 and Lego Batman 2. Never heard of the first but Lego Batman 2 is a great game to play with kids. We 100%ed on the PS3 and had an awesome time, Lego games are always great fun!
@redd214 That sounds worse than my worst imaginings for it. I can forgive a game that tries to be different and fails miserably, but you can enjoy it for what it is rather than what it's not. I can't forgive a game that's simply boring and unmemorable acting as a platform tech demo. Just name it Quake III if you're going to do that.
I wish for once a company would just stick to it's statements rather than pandering with an invented apology. Someone will always be offended by something. 20 years ago, that joke would have been an easy target for every late night comedian and nobody would have thought twice about it, and even the affected people would get a giggle out of it - because it's funny and people used to be able to laugh at themselves, even their misfortunes, when there's irony. Now it comes with a formal apology from legal within the hour.
I mean, as long as Crackdown 3 has a good singleplayer campaign, that's all I care about. I never saw Crackdown as something I'd want to pay with randos, anyways.
@NEStalgia@redd214 Yeah, that review does make it sound kinda meh, unfortunately.
I'll probably still keep it on my to buy list, though, since I've also liked the previous two games, so if this one is at least just as good in single player, or co-op, then I'm still in.
As for the Ubisoft joke and subsequent speedy apology: it was more than likely just a case of 'too soon'. Many of the great comedians of our time feel like you should (eventually) be able to make jokes about anything, no holds barred, and I tend to agree. Unfortunately, the world is now apparently perfectly content to wallow in a prudist, puritan misery and feeling like we have to put every damn little thing under a microscope, up to the point of destroying people, careers, and even banning classic Christmas songs.
Who in his/her right mind would think that in 2018, the classic Christmas song "Baby it's Cold Outside" would be negatively effected, and even ousted from play lists, because of it being affected by the whole #metoo wave, and as such being deemed "highly female-unfriendly"? The world is absolutely going mad, and unfortunately, I've lived to see it happening...
disclaimer:
Just in case some readers may think I'm some anti-social, misogynistic a-hole, I do want to add in no uncertain terms, that I have a MASSIVE disrespect for abusers of any kind, so I'm not bashing the original thought behind the #metoo campaign, but in some respects, they're taking it WAY too far, and dragging it out to ridiculous extremes, such as the example with banning the Christmas song clearly shows.
@ThanosReXXX yeah read a few more previews and while some are a bit more positive, nothing about it screams must have/must play exclusive though. Doesn't even seem like it's worth the time to try out on GP for me. Hope for the Xbox faithful that either Gears 5 or Halo Infinite is pegged for this year.
Also seems Live is down again, right before the Anthem demo goes live again too, bad timing
@Delibheel What, the Ubisoft government joke? If you meant the other part of my comment: that was not to start a discussion, but more a statement that I wanted to get off my chest, so I wasn't about to add any more to it than I've already said.
'The console wars are like boobs: Sony and Microsoft fight over which ones look the nicest and Nintendo's are the most fun to play with.'
Seems I got lucky that Kingdom Hearts came out this week, it's the only reason I've been using my Pro rather than my One X, so I seem to be missing this week's Xbox Live issues. Though we'll see how it is this weekend when I hop on Resident Evil 2
@redd214 Hm, this is actually the first time that the Xbox Live problem seems to be worldwide. I haven't been able to try until now, because I've had other things to do, but I just tried signing in and looking at content in the market place, but neither succeeded.
The last time that I read about any sign in issues here, which was last year, I had no such problems on my end. Oh, well. Guess I'll try again later, as the message on the Xbox One suggests...
'The console wars are like boobs: Sony and Microsoft fight over which ones look the nicest and Nintendo's are the most fun to play with.'
@redd214 From the Game Pass announcements at X018 it looks like Ori 2 is next after Crackdown 3 but I do think Gears 5 will be 2019's big XB1 game. Halo Infinite will probably be another BotW situation.
@ThanosReXXX It's on Game Pass, so I'll get to play it without paying for it...Just like Soulja Boy! We'll see if it holds my interest long enough with other games like Anthem and Division 2 around the same time. Though right now I'm mostly hooked on Smash, Kingdom Hearts, Pokemon, and oddly, Train Sim World which I picked up on the XBox post Christmas sale (buggy as a Bethesda game, but dang is it impressive if you're a railfan....some parts are still PC-only, unfortunately, but it's a darned good train simulator.) I ended up spending a small fortune on all the DLC packs (sadly the steamers and CSX Heavy Haul pack are PC only still.)
On the social commentary, one thing that sticks out to me, whether it's about that song, or the conversation in the DoA thread yesterday, people today seem unable to separate their own bad experiences from the broader topic. With that song people that have their own context about the scenario in mind view that as the whole intent of the exchange without considering other contexts exist, and that one of those contexts might be what the song about (not least of which, the song was written as a party song by a married couple........) To the "against" crowd, they're viewing their preconceived concept of the story of the song without the context of the intended story of the song. Similar in the DoA thread yesterday, several people railing on about the evils of a specific variety of strongly religious Christians.... as though that was an omnipresent factor in American society, when it's a pretty small sub-group, mostly present in specific geographic areas, doesn't represent the mainstream at all....but those individuals clearly have bad experience in their personal lives with interacting with that group, and then mentally apply it broad-spectrum to everyone in all situations as this persistent problem. The same mindset comes over to video games. "Nintendo released no games this year (that I am interested in.)" Maybe that's the root problem of the culture wars today. Nobody removes the "ME" from their evaluation of any situation, topic, story, or context. All topics are viewed with everyones own personal interaction with the topic as the only one exists.
@redd214 MS really has had a bad run of exclusives, with pretty bad timing of it to boot. I know SoT has its fans, but it's a pretty niche appeal release. Forza has been paying dividends but they really have taken too long to turn the exclusives engine around. Crackdown was the "big" one for years....and this is what happens to it. On the flip side I'm happy. As long as MS is on their back heel playing catch-up they remain the best platform as a whole. Once they take the lead, it all gets messed up (again). And what is WITH Live ever since october?? I haven't been hit by it so far this week (might have tried out Anthem, I already paid for it....but I'm hooked on too many other games right now.) But Live never went down and since October there's been numerous outages.
Maybe it's the "power of the cloud" for Crackdown.....or rather a lot of big infrastructure changes to support it.
@Grumblevolcano Gears seems like the safest bet. They definitely need something for the fall since Forza is apparently skipping this year as well. I'm sure they will get in some smaller things like Battle toads and the like will release but slim Pickens this year again it seems.
