@Dezzy Do you know how gigantic Bethesda is? ID, Arkane, Bethesda studios and more, not to mention all of the publishing they do, it's like acquiring EA. The games will most likely be multiplat or timed, Xbox will just get some of the profit from the games. That seems to be Xbox's strategy going into this generation.
Microsoft will still get some of the money by selling on other platforms, so I don't see why they wouldn't do that. But as others have said, Game Pass is the priority for Microsoft and the Xbox brand, and this deal has just increased that value massively. May as well rake in the extra dollar from those who won't migrate to the Xbox ecosystem.
@BruceCM Your first comment implied that Deathloop and Ghostwire: Tokyo wouldn't be released on Series S/X and they will.
Bethesda had previously agreed to debut two of its upcoming games, Deathloop and Ghostwire: Tokyo, on Sony’s new PlayStation rather than Xbox. Both games were announced as “timed console exclusives,” meaning that they would be restricted to the PlayStation 5 for a fixed period of time before coming to Xbox.
Phil's confirmed they'll honour the upcoming games that have already arranged to be exclusive .... Future ones will come to XBox & PC. Other consoles on a case-by-case basis, too!
Oh, sorry, I thought it was clear that the terms already agreed were going to stay the same, @BlueOcean .... But the headline hasn't been 'XBox buys Bethesda & all their upcoming games will be exclusives'. It's been about how their games will be in GamePass!
@Anti-Matter It looks like Square and Sony are in friendlier kahoots with each other compared to Square with Microsoft or Nintendo judging by the fact the PS5 has two console exclusives from them coming down the pipeline

Although Sony won't be able to buy square Enix, let alone take-two, they still have money. They're the smallest of the big 3, Sony has pretty deep pockets nevertheless. Its not unreasonable to buy out, let's say, Kojima productions, that would be an instant buy for me. Along with that, Konami is pretty reasonable as well. There is a lot that they could buy to one-up Microsoft, that won't make them go bankrupt.
Also, I saw some article, don't have a link, that games by Bethesda will be exclusive on a game by game basis, furthering my claim that ES6 and Starfield will most likely come to PlayStation consoles, but not their sequels.
@BruceCM No problem, all I wanted is to clarify it.
@TheFrenchiestFry What console exclusives does Square Enix have on PS5? Final Fantasy XVI has been confirmed to be a 1-year PS5 exclusive so it will be released on Xbox after that, same as Final Fantasy VII Remake.
