Topic: The everything Xbox thread

I mean do any modern connected tech devices work out of the box without some type of update required? To be honest that should really just be expected in the times we are in.

XB1 games are in a similar state to the XB1 console. You'll lose a lot from the hardware and software servers shutting down. It'll be mostly preserved but only because the vast majority of XB1 games are on PC.

When the new Scarlett consoles (Anaconda and Lockhart) and PS5 are released, Microsoft would still have exclusive games because consoles are not Microsoft's exclusive gaming business. Microsoft made Xbox their gaming brand, consoles are just part of it. That's also the biggest benefit you get with an Xbox console because boundaries do no exist as on PS or Switch. Sony and Nintendo are playing a similar game while Microsoft is building their gaming business around Xbox, Windows and even other OS, devices and gaming platforms. They only needed more game development and that's exactly what they have invested in.

Also Xbox One S and X are much quieter, play audio CDs, have a better controller, are (partially) backwards compatible, you can transfer games and save files easier and the optional remote control is handy. Xbox is better hardware and services, PS has their own exclusive games (so do Nintendo and Microsoft) and nothing else. Nintendo has unique features that sometimes work, sometimes do not.

@BlueOcean I forgot to mention that but I guess better build quality means better cooling and lesser noise

I agree on the exclusive games BUT I hope that if they announce Fable 4 it is a TRUE exclusive on Xbox and it is polished to perfection.

@Zuljaras Yeah, my launch PS4 vents sound like a hairdryer and the disc tray and disc reading sound like a 90s PC (back when I was a kid).

I skipped 360 and PS3 (I used to be a Nintendo fanboy) and only played Fable on Xbox One. The soundtrack is delicious. Menus and controls are really weird in the Anniversary version but it was a game like I've never played before and after a while I really loved it and it made an impression on me. I enjoyed this and the first Assassin's Creed far more than Breath of the Wild. Whoever makes Fable 4 must make a game that it's different but just as wonderful. Fable as a franchise is what Xbox needs the most since it already has solid shooter and racing exclusives. Microsoft should fund (or just acquire Playful!) a more ambitious Super Lucky's Tale game which already has great music, visuals and perfect controls as it reminded me of some good Mario platforming moments. We also need Banjo back desperately. Obviously. Xbox needs Banjo, a better Lucky and Fable. Really.

@Anti-Matter Only thing I can tell you is that it doesn't matter where you take your Xbox One, once it's prepared, and has the latest updates and a profile installed, you can play anywhere you want, and offline as well. As long as digital games are installed, or you have the physical discs, so you can install them yourself.

don't forget you have to set it as your home console too otherwise you can't use any off your digital content (games and DLC for example) when it's not connected to XBL (and trust me i can confirm this as my XB1 won't connect online anymore so i can't use most of my stuff, it was a replacement for my original XB1 when it's disc drive broke but because others use that system for things like Netflix and some digital games, i never set my new one as my home system and now i can't because it wont connect online)

@FullbringIchigo Btw the funny thing is that when I update my Xbox and then try to play some BC game I get error. Then I restart couple of times and I can play my BC games again.
Just weird issue that I noticed. It happened twice now.

@AntiMatter I gather that Asia as a whole never really got into XBox at the start, and MS probably doesn't spend a ton of marketing money there since it's never been a leading market for them. Indonesia, as you know, is a pretty big piracy market, so MS's online connected focus certainly kills enthusiasm with the mainstream there since it makes it that much harder to pirate. I think you'll never see MS's consoles be terribly popular there as a result, though I'm sure Sony's next console will be a lot more online connected as well.

As for getting the X1 to run offline, I've never taken it elsewhere, but there were a number of times in Oct/Nov/Dec where XBox's online servers were down in the US. The console worked fine, even playing my digital content (well, not content on my second XBox, because you need to log in on your "non-primary" to verify ownership, but on your "primary" both digital and physical games play fine without any access to the MS servers. You might get a "logging you in" window that sits there, but just hit the "guide button" and you're back on your menu. What you don't get of course is game patches and system updates, but that's normal for all consoles. And system updates can be applied from a USB stick if you can download it on a PC, same as PS4.

Overall it's the same experience as using a Windows 10 computer without internet, when using a Microsoft Account for your login. In fact, it's the exact same experience, because that's what it is....

@FullbringIchigo Why won't it connect online? Have you tried both wireless and wifi? Or is it a firewall/ISP issue?

@NEStalgia i'm not sure exactly what has happened but i have had trouble with it before and i know it's not a firewall or ISP issue as the other XB1 (the one with the broken disc drive) connects just fine (as does everything else i connect online with) but no matter how i try to connect it, wireless or ethernet cable, nor trying my old routers have worked it's like that entire part of the console has just died

i was thinking of sending it off to be repaired but the next gen systems should be coming in a few years so i might as well just wait

as for my games well between the PS4 and P.C i can replace just about all of those anyway

@FullbringIchigo That's really weird, especially since wireless and wired are two different pieces of hardware. It almost sounds more like an OS issue, maybe. I have no idea how to troubleshoot it, but it has to be software oriented if it affects both interfaces.

@FullbringIchigo Yeah... there's that. But I have to wonder who wouldn't set his Xbox One to home console as a single user? I did, and far as I know, so did all my friends. If I remember correctly, the option is offered in the initial setup, so you can hardly overlook it.

@ThanosReXXX because my original console (the one with the broken disc drive) is used by multiple people (kids and wife) each with their own account, if i had set my second as my home console they would have lost access to my digital games and DLC, not to mention XBLGold

and besides it was also so i had one all to myself to use when i wanted too

@NEStalgia like i said i have no idea what happened but it is what it is, it wont connect online at all and i don't have a clue why

@FullbringIchigo You said that you are interested in the next generation, you can wait until Scarlett or Lockhart and play all your games on there. Repairing your console would only make sense if it was really cheap.

Far as I know, Anti-Matter isn't sharing his consoles with anyone, and neither am I, except for when I have friends coming over.
