@DarthNocturnal Turn10 has mentioned that Forza Motorsport 8 won't launch in 2019 so may be a bit too early to reveal that.

FullbringIchigo

@redd214 unless it's a launch title for the next XBOX system, it would be a way of drumming up interest

"Now! This is it! Now is the time to choose! Die and be free of pain or live and fight your sorrow! Now is the time to shape your stories! Your fate is in your hands!

Grumblevolcano

@Dezzy I think the Halo side may be like E3 2014, a teaser trailer for Infinite and gameplay of MCC PC and/or Reach XB1.

@FullbringIchigo oh I would put money down on FM8 being a launch title for the next xboxes, but since those probably aren't 2019 either still seems early. Usually only a handful of months from reveal to release for Forza so I expect a similar cadence. We shall see though!

FullbringIchigo

@redd214 yeah your probably right, i still think the best Forza is Forza 4 though, none of the mainline games have topped that yet for me

@FullbringIchigo only ever played 7 out of the mainline games but I found it enjoyable. From what I remember 4 is really when the series started to top Gran Turismo in some ways. Can't wait to see what the do with 8 though!

Ah, great. This month's free games includes Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon, one of my favorite arcade-like games, back in the day. If you like games based upon the classic "invasion of aliens and/or giant insects" movies, then this game might definitely be up your street.

The rest of the games are pretty decent as well:

Anybody pick up a SAD edition today lol?

FragRed

@redd214 The biggest “Why?” gaming machine to ever come out in recent memory.

I really hope Microsoft have learned from PlayStation how to successfully launch a new generation, but something is telling me they haven’t and we’re about to see a repeat of things come next year. Will be interesting to see.

Grumblevolcano

@FragRed The only thing you can learn from PS4 about successfully launching a new generation is that making fun of your opponent if they do something controversial leads to success. So I think Sony will use the "exclusive" angle this time because Xbox exclusives don't really exist anymore. All XB1 has is Halo 5, a bunch of Kinect games and a few delisted Forza games of which the former I'm pretty sure will come to PC after MCC.

But it will be interesting to see what people pick, the exclusivity of Playstation or the crossplay nature of Xbox.

@Grumblevolcano Well Microsoft did learn about exclusive games since they bought bunch of studios to make games for them right?

There are pros and cons in both machines in terms of functionality NOT games.

PS4 Pros:

  • Can play right from the start. Does NOT need day one update to play.
  • Can create local profile. No need for internet create accounts.

PS4 Cons:

  • Much worse build quality than Xbox.
  • The Mid Gen leap is not as good as Xbox.

Xbox Pros:

  • Superior build quality. Especially the One X.
  • The Mid gen leap was noticeable!

Xbox Cons:

  • Internet required to use the console AT ALL. You can't setup without internet.
  • No way to just make offline account and play some games.

However you may say that those are just my nit-picks.

Grumblevolcano

@Zuljaras Not quite, sure they won't be released for Playstation but that's as far as Xbox exclusivity will go judging by Phil Spencer's comments. All future games will likely be released for PC, xCloud will allow people to play Xbox games on mobile devices (maybe even the Switch) and even Nintendo's joining in with current gen Xbox ports arriving on Switch like Cuphead.

This is what I'm talking about, Sony's focusing on exclusivity while Microsoft on getting games to as many platforms as possible. It'll be very interesting to see which fairs better.

NEStalgia

@Grumblevolcano I think the hardcore gaming market is really focused on telling the narrative of "exclusives = desirable." I'm quite confident that the PS5 has xx# exclusives will be the narrative on the internet. Again. Plus PS looks set to focus heavily on VR as their differentiating point. It could backfire, but it does sell something unique to them no one else is focused on, with reduced risk since it's already established for their brand.

But MS plays a longer game. They're quietly building out their platforms, I think, not trying to win a generation so much but to be ready that when Sony inevitably as a fault, MS can simply already be everywhere, ready to go, and be a sort of automatic transition point for future-Sony's nonplussed audience. I think in the long game, Sony could end up more like Nintendo, a dedicated machine with unique features for a specific audience, where MS at some point overtakes "the masses" with their "everywhere" approach.

@zuljaras I'm not sure I'd say PS doesn't need a day 1 update. A lot of newer games doubtfully run on 1.0 and include a system update on the disc anyway....

X1 is definitely more internet focused though.

ThanosReXXX

@DarthNocturnal I was about to say the same thing, but you beat me to it. Not being able to play when you're offline on an Xbox One is complete nonsense, and as such, definitely not a valid point in a cons list.

'The console wars are like boobs: Sony and Microsoft fight over which ones look the nicest and Nintendo's are the most fun to play with.'

redd214

That is quite a strange pros/cons list for both consoles, to each their own though.

In typical Ubisoft fashion the have self leaked the next Ghost Recon game lol. Won't post it here but it's easy enough to find the info if you don't want to wait for the reveal tomorrow afternoon.

redd214

Zuljaras

@ThanosReXXX I edited my list. I was trying to say that there is no way to set up the console without internet. It is NOT playable out of the box.

After the set-up you can use the Offline option from the settings.

ThanosReXXX

@Zuljaras Ah, that's something entirely different than not being able to play games when you're offline.
In my case, I was able to import my profile from my Xbox 360, so that was all but a minute's work, and after that, no settings were needed. I've played offline several times, without changing any settings.

Only had to click away a pop up message saying that the console couldn't connect and/or that no player progress could be uploaded. Other than that, offline gaming works perfectly fine.

NEStalgia

@redd214 Why not post it? They flipping emailed it!

@Zuljaras Are you sure you need to do the setup online for 1S and 1X? That was an issue with OG XBone because the firmware that depended on Kinekt and the always on DRM was already burned on the boxed and warehoused units at the time of the E3 meltdown, and the emergency patch was required for the newly removed from the box Kinektless to be able to function without connect and the always on DRM. I'm not sure the subsequent units required from that unless you literally can't create offline user accounts.

Edit: AFAIK you can also install the OS updates from a thumb drive, same as PS4.

Zuljaras

@NEStalgia Yes I am sure.

I have tested my One X with the update file from USB but still you need to connect to the internet for the set up to finish.

Also you MUST do that every time you want to reset the console as well (factory reset not restart).

After that you can update it offline with USB no problem. Only the setup require internet connection.

Believe me I have tested it many times.

But the offline accounts/users really pains me as well. However I am sure that when they cut off the support of those consoles they will MS will give us one last update that will allow us to finish the set up process through a USB stick

Just to be clear. I am playing with all the latest updates. I have no problem with that! It is just a principle for me that I want my gaming devices to work properly out of the box
